P3A – WB 05.12.22

Dear Readers,

Hopefully you have been keeping comfy during this cold week.

In Primary 3A we have been doing lots of things to keep warm, including having lots of fun, of course!😊

This week’s highlights were:

  • All our work on RE to prepare for Reconciliation.
  • Our work on the Rights of the Child, articles 26 and 27/Global goal 1 regarding having a good standard of living and ending poverty for all.
  • Our spelling practice work and our weekly spelling assessment.
  • Maths, where we have continued working on column addition.
  • Our Word Boost story, the Dragon Machine, that everyone enjoyed.
  • Our walk through the school to see all the Christmassy doors decorated and voting for our favourite classroom door and for our favourite non-classroom door. They were all sooo lovely! It was really hard to choose!  We were very proud of our door but obviously couldn’t vote for it!

As promised, here is a picture of our door:

  • The Blessing of the Crib with Father Simon and singing ‘ Away in a manger’ altogether.✨

Our Hot Chocolate this week was Ella and we send her many congratulations! 🥇🏆😍She has been lovely and has set a great example for all this week!

We say goodbye for now and wish you all a lovely weekend!😀

P5A weekly update: 13th January 2022

Hello everyone and Happy New Year! We have had a fantastic first week back and it has been lovely to see all of the children so refreshed and looking forward to another exciting term!

This week we have been working really hard in numeracy as we get our heads around decimal numbers! We have loved using the counting stick and base ten concrete materials to help us with this and we can now confidently partition, build and multiply decimals by 10 and 100! Amazing work, well done P5A!

Within literacy we have been focusing on settling into our new reciprocal reading structure. Up until Christmas, we were building our knowledge and skills with this and we are now moving on to be able to use our skills to host our own reading discussion meetings with peers. Each week we will all take on a new role and contribute something new to the group, we love it! Our writing focus this month is Narrative and Miss Ventisei is so proud of how hard each and every pupil in our class has worked to produce such a high quality piece of work! We will keep working on this style of writing throughout the month.

Our new Interdisciplinary Learning topic for this term is John Muir which we are all very enthusiastic about! We kicked off our topic by discussing our current knowledge and then deciding what we would like to learn about throughout the term. As a large part of this topic is outdoor learning based, we headed out on a walk to Eliburn Reservoir to explore the nature in our local area. Julia and Eilidh’s favourite part of the walk was seeing the swans with their babies! By the end of the week we had managed to answer all of our initial questions about John Muir so we will co-plan our future stages of learning next week. Excellent work P5A.

Another highlight of the week was R.E. We were learning about the Epiphany and enjoyed listening to the story from the New Testament (Mark 2: 1-12) before drawing out our own understanding using chalk. We also explored the importance of The Epiphany in different cultures and the difficulties Mary and Joseph would have faced when they heard bad news about King Herod.

This week our Hot Chocolate winner was Bentley. He worked so, so hard on his writing particularly and always displays our school values. Congratulations Bentley, we are really proud of you! We also managed to get lots of people on the recognition board this week, well done everyone!

Thank you for another lovely week P5A, have a lovely weekend!

Primary 4b weekly blog post 13th January 2023

Happy New Year to everyone from P4b!  It has been so lovely having everybody back and seeing everyone’s brilliant renewed enthusiasm for their new learning.

Our new numeracy topic this term is multiplication and division. We have been learning our seven times table and we have learnt that division is the inverse of multiplication.  Next week, we will learn our nine times table and we will be looking at multiplying by 10 and 100.  We will also be revising our other times tables across the term.

In literacy, we started the term by writing a recount about what we got up to over the Christmas holidays.  We have since been learning about how to punctuate speech using speech marks (inverted commas) and we have been improving our use of verbs, including using the past tense correctly.  We also used Word to publish our Hogwarts setting descriptions that we wrote before the holidays.  Mrs Brown was SO PROUD of us for our setting descriptions!  The level of detail included in our sentences was amazing!  We will be writing narratives in our writing lessons over the next couple of weeks and will aim to continue using our fantastic descriptive features.

In Spanish, we learnt how to say some classroom objects in Spanish. Mrs Brown’s favourite word is un sacapuntas, which means pencil sharpener.  We also played some games to practise our new vocabulary.

We also met Mrs Day-Lewin, who came to do some singing with her.  We enjoyed using different languages in some songs.

Our highlights:

Matteo: I really liked Spanish, especially learning ‘sacapuntas’.

Shelby: I really liked doing counting and writing on the laptops.

Ashley: I enjoyed singing with Mrs Day-Lewin.

Daisy-Dee: I enjoyed using the laptops to do my writing.

P2A Highlights – WB 9th January 2023

Hello Families of P2A

Happy New Year!

We’ve had a very busy and fun first week back, with everyone working super hard.

We welcome Miss Roscilli, a student teacher, to our class. We are very lucky to have Miss Roscilli working with us for this whole term.

The children came up with the idea to create a toyshop within our classroom. They then worked together to make a lovely little shop, which they called ‘Diamond Toy Shop’. I’m sure they’ll have great fun playing in this over the next few weeks. This also fits in nicely with our money topic.

Highlights:

Chimamanda – I liked making the Doves. These are a symbol of The Holy Spirit.

Rory and Caiden – We loved making the diamonds for our shop.

Grace – I liked doing free writing. I wrote a story about Power Puff girls.

Diana – I liked making our class calendar. I worked with Grace and we made November.

Vivien and Laura – We  loved everything this week.

Chahiti – I liked free writing. I wrote about a Ladybird.

Jack – I enjoyed building a castle with the lego during our STEM activity.

Huge Congratulations to Linda, our hot chocolate winner.

P6B 13th Jan

Hello P6B families,

We have had a great first week back after Christmas. It has been lovely to see everyone and hear about what you all got up to.

This week we have started rehearsing for our Burns performance and I have been really impressed with the Scots language. Everyone has been working really hard to learn their parts.

Our class highlights are:

  • Vivien and Praise – enjoyed recapping our maths skills from last term and consolidating our learning about fractions, decimals and percentages.
  • Summer – “I liked playing games in PE with Mrs Lafferty. The games will help me to be more ready and aware, which I can use in class!”
  • Niamh – “I enjoyed developing my music skills when I played brass”.
  • Aditya, Akash and Naman – enjoyed learning about Robert Burns through exploring some poems and researching about his life to create PowerPoints.

Well done to Naman who was this weeks hot chocolate winner. Naman has been very helpful in class by giving reminders about being ready and respectful.

Have a lovely weekend and see you on Monday!

This week we have been learning the ‘j’ sound. We have been using a game on Twinkl Go to help us to spell words and we are getting very good at sounding them out. In writing, we have been looking at Narrative. We know this type of writing has a beginning, middle and an end.

We have been playing well during Choosing Our Own Learning Time. In the area, we now have a reading den, a new house corner and new sand and water trays. We have been lots of fun!

A very Happy New Year to all our families and friends.

The children have had a great first week back at school.  Ready to learn and happy to be with their friends again and share their news and stories.

This week we have been learning the sounds w and y.  We looked at forming the letters and also sounding out words that have the sounds in them.

For talking and Listening we shared news from our holidays and what we got up to.

We started our new topic ‘Our Local Area’ we discussed what we already knew about our area and what we would like to learn about.

We looked at a map of the UK and located Scotland on it.  We looked at Google Earth and we found our School and some people found their houses.  We looked at different types of houses learning their names and how they differ from each other.  We drew some houses for our wall display.  We also looked at different room in a house i.e. bathroom, bedroom, kitchen.

We spoke about New Year Resolutions and we all decided to try and do something for the New Year either at home or in school.  We wrote a prayer to ask God to bless us all this new year.
