It’s been a short week, but we have still managed to pack in lots of fun and learning!

In Maths, the children have continued to work on multiplication and division and they are getting very quick with their recall!  They have also learned the difference between left and right and practised using the ‘ChaCha Slide’ song!

In Literacy, we continued reading George’s Marvellous Medicine, the children love the story and can’t wait to find out what will happen next.

Today, we had a Coronation party to celebrate the King’s Coronation.  The children made flags and crowns and we paraded through the school.  Afterwards, we went to the hall, where we had some cake and juice followed by some dancing.

Here are a few highlights from the children:

Angel: I liked the party with the music.

Grace:  I enjoyed making flags and crowns to celebrate the King’s Coronation.

Jack:  I enjoyed Free Writing Friday.  I wrote about Legoland.

Diana: I loved the activities about the Coronation.

Linda:  I loved the party in the hall!

Laura: I liked learning about Mother Teresa.

This week, we wrote an adventure narrative about a lighthouse keeper called Chris (Class write).  We were inspired by this story:  https://youtu.be/6HfBbSUORvo  In our story, the light broke in Chris’s lighthouse and a ship was coming.  The villagers came up to help Chris.  Half of them fixed the light and the other half stood outside with their lanterns.  We made our narrative really exciting because we used lots of adjectives and exciting verbs/adverbs to add description and detail.  We used non-finite clauses, fronted adverbials and expanded noun phrases.  We did a great job and next week, we are going to write our own narratives using just as much description.  We have been set a challenge of starting to think about what we want to happen in our stories, including the setting, the characters and what could go wrong.

In maths, we finished off looking at measuring using cm and mm.  We now know how to confidently measuring using a ruler and how to convert between mm and cm.  Mrs Brown has reminded us to do our maths homework on Sumdog each week because many of us keep forgetting!

Highlights:

Matteo: I enjoyed music because we used drumsticks to make rhythms.  We had to use our jotters as a drum pad.  Mrs Morrison said that if we ever want to use drum sticks, a mouse pad is also good for this.  We had to remember to keep our elbows up and the stick needs to bounce up.

Ishani S: I liked writing the story because it had lots of description in.

Dhanvi: I liked writing the story because you liked using description and adding detail.

Jude: I liked doing the drums with Mrs Morrison because my grandad had drums and I got to use them once.

Aiden: I liked the writing because the story was amazing and I was very interested in the story.  My partner and I chose Chris’s name.

Layla: I liked PE because we got to play Bulldogs and the hook arm game (linking tag).

Term 4 overview

This week we got another letter from the dragon. He left us some cardboard pieces to build a castle. We were very good at remembering the different parts of the castle and we helped Miss Stebbing to put the castle together. We have loved playing in the castle and pretending to be Kings and Queens.

We have been learning about the Coronation of King Charles. We made some cards to send to the King and we drew pictures of him on the front. We also wrote about what we would do if we were King or Queen for the day. Some of our ideas were very interesting!

On Friday, we joined up with P1B and P2 to have a street party to celebrate the Coronation. We made crowns to wear and flags to wave. We had a cake and some juice in the hall and the tables were all decorated.

Vedansh – I enjoyed the party.

Joshua – I enjoyed the party too.

Summer Rose – I enjoyed the party.

Connor – I enjoyed making the castle and having the party. The best bit of the party was eating the cakes and drinking the juice.

Filip – I enjoyed the party.

Vasilisa – I enjoyed dancing at the party and making the castle.

Hello P2B families!

Here are our highlights from the Green Table:

TJ enjoyed our Mindfulness lesson during Health this week.  The children, once again, have been learning about their feelings and strategies for how to get ‘Back to Green’.  This week we learned about Mindfulness.  We know that means to slow down and pay attention to what is around us.  We examined our fingers and veins as a means of paying attention to what was around us and slowly walked around the room to see if we could spot something that we never noticed before.  Sometimes our brains can feel like there is a storm in there, so we need to calm the waves down.  Mindfulness is one way of doing this.

Eli liked our final Magic e lesson this week.  This time it was with the vowel ‘u’.  He liked the word ‘cube’ best.  Next week we will explore other spelling patterns that also make this sound (ew and ue).

Lilly loved making our April Showers pictures.  We hope to send these home next week.

Sofia loved playing with the loose parts in the outdoor sheds.  She enjoyed the tyres best.

Karina said the best part of her week was our learning about dividing.  We know that this means sharing equally.  We discovered that Multiplication and Division are linked!  For example, 2×6=12 and 12 ÷ 6=2!  The same digits are used.

Mrs Devlin’s favourite part of the week was our maths lesson on Area.  The first item we found the area of was our jotter.  Once we fully covered it in cubes, we wondered how we were going to count all of them without getting ourselves in a muddle as there were quite a lot of cubes!  Theo was a clever clogs and discovered that each row had 10 cubes so we could count in tens!  Mrs Devlin and P2B were very impressed!  Well done Theo!  We are going to be learning about the 10 Times Tables soon.  Our ability to count in tens is really going to help us.

Dear parents and families,

We have had another excellent week!

A class highlight in particular was science. We have been learning about the human body and this week we focused on the skeletal system. After researching a little about the skeleton, we made our very own using pasta! We thought about the shape of each bone and labelled all of the skeleton parts.

Olivia said she enjoyed maths this week! We challenged ourselves to some trickier esti-mysteries and we did a fab job! Our focus for the week was time and multiplication. We have been using the grid method to solve multi-step multiplication word problems and we are really confident with this now! We have also been learning how to tell the time using an analogue clock and have enjoyed playing lots of fun games to consolidate our knowledge on this.

Throughout literacy we have been working on our explanation writing. We wrote a super explanation about the life cycle of a butterfly and also self and peer assessed these together. Well done everyone! Max said that he enjoyed our literacy lesson on Wednesday. We were identifying similes and metaphors and used the Katy Perry song ‘firework’ as an example text. We analysed the lyrics and then considered some of our own favourite songs. We reflected on the true artist’s meaning of the song and explored some similes and metaphors too.

Weronika and Eilidh said that they enjoyed outdoor learning this week. We ventured into the playground and studied a plant of our choice, thinking about its features, area that it has been grown in and opportunity for sunlight and water to grow. Some of us also took some fantastic close up photographs of nature. We also had a little check up on our vegetables that are growing- we think our carrots are coming along nicely! Eilidh, Emili, Weronika and Nikola decided to be fantastic responsible citizens and effective contributors by picking up some of the litter that we found in the playground, they have decided that we will be back out soon to clear the rest as a class! Well done girls.

Thursday was a very exciting day because 7 of us were lucky enough to go to the nursery to help with the weeding! The children who went loved their time playing with the younger pupils and did a fantastic job of clearing the weeds in the garden.

Congratulations to Vijval who was our Hot Chocolate winner today! He had an absolutely fantastic week- he displayed excellent listening, lots of focus and lots of helpfulness! Well done Vijval, we are very proud of you!

Forward Plan overview Term 4 P3B

This has been a very exciting week in Primary 1A! On Monday, we had a visit from a friendly dragon. The dragon left us a letter, which told us that Fairyland was destroyed and that he needed our help to rebuild it. Of course, we agreed to help and we wrote letters to the dragon to tell him.  We posted our letters in the special ‘D-Mail’ post box that he had left for us. On Wednesday, the dragon left us another letter that had lots of burnt bits on it as he was so happy we had agreed to help and little bits of fire had popped out of his mouth. He also left us some castle books so that we can keep all our Fairyland work in them. We can’t wait to see what tasks the dragon leaves us to complete! We learned about different castles and the parts of a castle after the dragon told us he used to protect a castle in Fairyland. We drew pictures of a castle and wrote a sentence about it. We even remembered to use the word ‘and’.

In maths, we have been learning to tell the time to half past the hour. We have been practising this using the Stop the Clock game where we have to match the analogue and digital clocks. We also used the part, part, whole model to complete some missing number addition sums.

In RE, we learned the story of the Good Shepherd and The Wedding Feast at Cana.

For Outdoor Learning, we listened to the story ‘Not a Stick’. We then had to find a stick and use our imaginations. It was a bit wet in the woodland so we saw lots of minibeasts. We loved trying to find lots of different minibeasts under the logs and in the leaves.

Our sunflower seeds have grown a lot over the past week and we have been very excited to see the difference each day. We have reminded Miss Stebbing to make sure they are watered!

Vasilisa – I enjoyed seeing the animals in the woodland.

Harald – I enjoyed finding creatures in the woodland.

Connor – I enjoyed finding the animals and pretending the sticks were something else in the woodland.

Lillian – I enjoyed holding the woodlouse.

Eve – I enjoyed going up to the woodlands and finding bugs.

Filip – I enjoyed finding some bugs and a spider.
