Primary 4b weekly blog post 21st April 2023

This week, we have worked very hard because we have completed our SNSAs in maths, writing and reading.  Mrs Brown is proud of us for our great effort.

In maths, we learnt about chance and probability, and revised our previous learning on statistics.

In writing, we published our recycling information report and we were excited to take a copy home to share with our families.  We hope you enjoyed reading it.  We have decided that we would like to write a narrative next week.

We also worked in groups to compose rhythms in music and then perform these in our groups:

Our highlights:

Paige: I liked doing PE.  We got a partner and then we linked our arms together.  Then, someone else had to run and link on to their arms, which freed the person at the end.  The game continued like that.  I liked it because it was fun.

Ishani M: I liked finding out that Mrs Brown was pregnant.

Matteo: I liked showing everyone my website.

Alexa: I liked deciding together what we were going to do in writing next week.

Jude, Ishani S and Zac: We liked doing the numeracy SNSA.  Actually, we liked all of them.

P1B Learning Highlights 21st April 2023

What a super busy first week back after the holidays and a great start to our final term in P1.  It was so good to see everyone again.

This week we planted Sunflower and Cress seeds.  We will water them in school and watch to see them start to grow.  Then we will be able to take them home and look after them.  We listened to a story about a little seed and how the wind blew him and he grew into a beautiful sunflower.  We know that seeds need water, air and sunlight to grow.

In writing this week we wrote instructions on how to plant a seed.  We all worked very hard and Mrs Russell was very impressed with our writing and how we sounded out tricky words and ordered our sentences correctly.  This week we drew a picture of our own mini beast and then we wrote sentences to describe it.

We listened to the story Hassan and Aneesa celebrate Eid and we made lanterns.  We listened to one of our friends describe how they celebrate Eid with their family and friends.

We recalled the Easter Story of Jesus rising from the dead and we made tombs using paper plates for our Religion wall.

In numeracy and Maths we practised counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s we are getting very good at this.

We also looked at number words from zero to ten.  We had sorting numbers and numerals activities and we also played a game on the interactive board.  We also played addition games which helped us work on our number work.

Saturday the 22nd is Earth Day we had discussions throughout the week on how to look after our earth and how we all have a responsibility to help protect our earth.  We made a lovely art display and we discussed things we can do at home and school that can help our earth.

We read the story ‘The Messy Magpie’ and learned more about recycling and the different coloured bins.  We discussed what we can recycle in school and at home and we completed some seesaw activities.

This week we practiced the colours and counting to 10 in Spanish.  We are getting good at these. We also had ‘COOL’ time we were able to choose our own learning.

Weekly Highlights:

Mrs Russell ‘I loved reading The Messy Magpie and discussing how we can look after our earth’

Aaron ‘I liked planting the seeds’.

Cameron ‘I liked watching the video about the little seed and how it grows’.

Rose ‘I liked choosing my own learning’.

P5B Weekly Blog 21st of April 2023

It was great to come back from the Easter Holiday on Monday. This will be a very busy but hopefully fun term in Primary 5. This week we investigated two childrens rights. Article 6-Every child has the right to life. Governments must do all they can to ensure that children survive and develop to their full potential. Also Article 24- Every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and well-being so that children can stay healthy. Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this. Both of these rights are linked directly to Earth Day and everyone taking care of our planet to benefit everyone.

In science we will be investigating the human body. Starting with learning about the human skeleton which protects organs and helps us move.

In Math pupils will be working on different methods of multiplication for larger number. On Monday and Tuesday They started to learn about the Grid Method.

IMG_0765

On Wednesday afternoon  performed their group compositions of rhythm patterns to the rest of the class.

We had a fantastic trip to John Muir Country Park in Dunbar on Thursday. As you can see from the photographs your children took the weather was great, very sunny, not too hot, not too windy. When we arrived the first thing we saw were a herd of llamas. Then we walked along a path, through the woods and down onto the shore line. The children were able to run around in the space, explore and do the type of things John Muir did as a child. We then walked along the shore into another part of the woods and followed the trail until we arrived at a wonderful play park. The children sang all the way back to the school on the bus.

P2B Week Beginning 27th March 2023

Hello P2B families!

Here are our highlights from the Yellow Table:

Musa has enjoyed our lessons on finding change from 20p.  We have been learning about using a take away strategy and a counting on strategy.

Isabella loved our role-play of Palm Sunday.  The children have been learning about the important events that made up Holy Week, the last week of Jesus’ life.  Each day they listened to the stories from the Bible and then recreated these events through role-play.  For Palm Sunday, they made large palm leaves and waved them up and down shouting, “Hosanna!  Jesus is the King!” while “Jesus” rode on his donkey.

Ishaan said the best part of his week was the role-play of ‘The Last Supper’.  The children enjoyed eating the bread and “drinking” the wine.  They know that Jesus calls us to remember him in this way at Mass.

Ollie liked rolling his hard-boiled egg down the hill in the playground with his mum.  It cracked at the bottom.  He decorated it beautifully first in class.  Well done Ollie and to all the children for your creative efforts!

Tharun said his favourite part of the week was pretending to be a disciple and having his feet washed.  The children know that through this act of service, Jesus was teaching us to love one another, serve one another and that we are all of the same importance.

Lewis loved performing at the Spring assembly for all the parents.  All of the children did amazingly well and I was so proud of them!  We had some children miss some rehearsals due to the sickness bug and even with being off, they worked hard to remember their lines and stage directions.  Thank you to all of the families who were able to join us.

Mrs Devlin’s favourite part of the week was the role-play of Holy Week.  The children engaged in this with such reverence and I hope they remember these important events in Jesus’ life for their whole lives.  See images below of some of the moments captured.

Congratulations to Lily, our Hot Chocolate award winner for this week!

I hope you all have a happy and holy Easter and I will see you all upon our return.

P4b weekly blog post 31/03/23

Well done p4b, for completing another term!!

In science, we mixed milk and vinegar together to make a form of plastic called casein plastic.  This was used just after the Industrial Revolution.

In numeracy, we finished our fractions topic.  We worked hard to understand equivalent fractions and then we did some fractions problems, which we had solve using bar models.  We finished with an assessment on Sumdog.

In literacy and writing, we did some revision on conjunctions and we also edited our information reports.

In RME, we read the Easter Story and learnt about the stations of the cross as we learnt about how Jesus was betrayed and crucified.

We were also thrilled to have a visit from one of Mrs Ross’ bunny rabbits for Easter.

Highlights:

Alexa, Stefi and Dhanvi: We liked doing science when we made casein plastic because it felt like slime.

Layla: I liked finishing off fractions because it got a bit harder and I liked the challenge.

Jude: I liked editing the writing because I liked learning how to spell the words and using the dictionary.

Have a wonderful Easter everyone!!

P5A weekly update: 31st March 2023

Hello families of P5A!

We have had a lovely last week of term and looking forward to a well-deserved rest over Easter!

Numeracy: This week, we have been focused on multiplication of 2 and 3 digit numbers. Through this, we have been learning to use 2 different strategies- the grid method and the friendly-numbers method. We loved playing some really fun games, such as multiplication splat and multiplication mania to help us practice! We have also been focusing on our 8 and 9 times table and we are now all experts with the counting stick, some of us have even been leading our own counting stick sessions! We were also lucky to enough to learn lots about Fibonacci swirls with Mrs Callaghan and create some fantastic Fibonacci swirl artwork- well done P5A!

Literacy: Our class highlight of this week for literacy was writing our final narrative piece. We all started with the exact same opener and we loved that each of us interpreted this sentence differently. We worked really hard to include lots of figurative language and setting and atmosphere description in our writing- Miss Ventisei thinks we did a fantastic job!

IDL: Recently we have been learning about animal adaptations. We decided to design and create our very own adapted animal model and this week we have completed these. Many of us used various materials such as clay, recycled plastics, recycled cardboard boxes, paper straws, lollipop sticks and many more; we also painted and added extra details to our models.

Art: This week we really enjoyed using chalk and oil pastels, alongside stencils, to create our very own crucifix artwork. We decorated our classroom wall with our creations and have received lots of lovely compliments.

R.E: Since Holy Week and Easter is approaching, we have been learning about the Easter story. Alongside this, we have also been learning about all of the different Masses and traditions that occur over the Easter Triduum. We are very excited because Mrs Valente collected our ‘Wee Box’ this week and we are very proud of our extremely generous donations to the SCIAF appeal, thank you and very well done P5A!

Outdoor Learning: This week we planted potatoes, carrots, basil, parsley and chives in our school grounds! We loved working together to fill the planting bags with soil and seeds and we are looking forward to watching these grow- and hopefully have a little taste- throughout the summer term.

Our Hot Chocolate winner this week was Carina. Congratulations Carina!

Have a lovely holiday everyone!

Primary 2A Highlights WB 27th of March 2023

Hi Families of Primary 2A,

We have had another exciting week of learning, this week we have been preparing for Easter and doing lots of fun activities.

In RE we have been learning about the Easter Story, Palm Sunday and the Last Supper. The children enjoyed roleplaying colouring activities.

In literacy we have been reading the story book ‘Who’s Our New Teacher’ by Jeanne Willis. Primary 2A were predicting who they thought the new teacher in the story book would be, they had lots of imaginative ideas. We found out that the new teacher is a dragon! Children took turns of being the dragon, and the class asked them questions about the story.

In numeracy we have been learning about ordering, sequencing and missing numbers up to 20, 100 and 1000.  Primary 2A participated a variety of activities including, bingo and interactive board games.

The children especially enjoyed the Easter Egg Hunt in the woodlands. They worked together as a class to find all the hidden chocolate goodies and a special golden egg!

Here are some highlights from pupils in P2A:

“I loved singing at our assembly to our families” – Laura ,Vivien and Abeeha.

“The Easter egg hunt was amazing!” – Zion and Jiade.
