P5A 9.12.22

Wow! What a memorable week we have had in P5! We had the most fun ever at our Enterprise event on Friday and we would like to thank everyone who came and bought some products. Some children described this event as the best day of their life in school so far so it’s fair to say it was a great success!

Another class highlight of the week was maths. We had a very exciting project of planning and pricing a winter holiday where we had a set budget to stick to. We priced out our transport and accommodation costs for 5 nights and even remembered to factor in our luggage costs; excellent work P5! We also worked out our enterprise product prices, created a price list and used our multiplication skills to work out an estimated total profit. We are all loving developing our skills for life and work!

We also really enjoyed literacy this week; we did a creative writing piece based on a Christmas village backdrop! Miss Ventisei loved reading all of the wonderful imaginative stories and also spotted some fantastic conjunctions, which is our grammar focus at the moment.

On Thursday, we had a very exciting afternoon! We had to decorate some gingerbread men for the Enterprise event! We absolutely loved decorating these and made sure to add lots of “Christmas cheer”to our biscuits!

Ayden was our Hot Chocolate winner of the week! He made sure to be ready, respectful and safe all week and this did not go unnoticed! Fantastic work Ayden; we are all so proud of you!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

P7a Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

On Monday we took part in a debate about renewable and non-renewable energy sources to round of our topic work in that area and really enjoyed finding out about the structure of a debate and how to take part. We are looking forward to more experiences of debate this year.

We have been working on Fractions, Decimals and Percentages, links between them and how to find a fraction or percentage of an amount. Our NSAs (formally SNSA) Standardised Assessments are next week so F.D.P will continue in the New Year.

We have written our final Explanation Report, for this term, where we had free choice of the topics. Mr McGurn is looking forward to finding out about a very large and varied cross section of topics like: How Football was Invented or How to Win at Modern Warfare.

In health and wellbeing we have begun to learn about the Zones of Regulation, which is a tool to help us better understand our emotions and how to deal with them. We played Bingo…

and discovered the area in the classroom where we can take a little break from things if we find ourselves in the red or yellow zones…

Congratulations to Chiedochie and Tanvi who both placed in the Top 10 in our recent West Lothian Sumdog Competition!

Pardhu and Katie both mention their highlight of the week being ‘getting ready for the NSAs’ whilst Chiedochie said her highlight was, “Our class did a debate of renewable and non-renewable energy.”

This week’s Hot Chocolate at Home winner was….

Monty! Great job Monty, you’ll be a great Lead Learner for next week!

Have a great weekend everyone,

Primary 4b weekly blog 9th December 2022

Well done Primary 4b, you’ve really impressed me with your learning this week!

In maths, we have been finishing off our addition and subtraction topic.  We have been using the inverse to check our answers and to find missing numbers.  We worked in pairs today to solve written problems and we coached our partner if they needed our help.

In topic, we researched some Scottish castles.  We learnt that Balmoral Castle was rebuilt in 1856.  Glamis Castle is considered by some to be the most beautiful castle in Scotland.  Edinburgh Castle was built on volcanic rock and it has also experienced the most attacks of any castle in the UK.  It had a record-breaking 1.7 million visitors recently.

In our literacy, we have learnt about conjunctions.  We learnt about co-ordinating conjunctions and we use FANBOYS and for subordinating conjunctions we use I SAW A WABUB.  We use conjunctions to add extra information and make our sentences more detailed and interesting.

In health and wellbeing, we were reflecting on how to be a good friend and why friendships are important.

Our highlights:

Millie and Jonah: We liked doing Christmas Corners in PE because it was fun and we got to dance.

Paige: This week, I drew two Winnie the Pooh pictures and I liked showing them to the class.

Aiden and Mariam: We loved doing maths this week because we did a lot of addition and subtraction and used the inverse to check our answers.

Jude: I liked doing Christmas dances for the Christmas party because they were all very fun.

Congratulations to Aiden for being our hot chocolate winner this week.

Have a wonderful time at the disco if you’re going and have a lovely week.  See you on Monday.

P5B Blog 9th December 2022

This week as part of our Journey towards Rights Respecting Gold Award, we explored Childrens’ Rights articles 26 (social security) Every child has the right to benefit from social security. Governments must provide social security, including financial support and other benefits, to families in need of assistance. We also explored how it links with article 27, Every child has the right to a standard of living that is good enough to meet their physical and social needs and support their development. Governments must help families who cannot afford to provide this. Your children were able to link this with our trying to raise money at school for a trip or a treat for both primary 5 classes.

As part of our RE lessons we are learning about the different weeks of Advent, last week the main them was Hope and this week the main them is bring Peace to everyone around us. During this second week of advent we led the advent service for Primary 4A, Primary 4B and Primary 5A. It was very special event for all of the children to take part in as we draw nearer to Christmas.

Most of our week was finishing off our posters, practising speeches and singing for todays wonderful Christmas Enterprise event which was extremely well attended. We would like to announce that the children (with huge support from families) raise £346.

Every class in the school and the nursery and all of the adults who do not have their own classroom have been decorating doors around the school to spread some Christmas cheer!  We think everyone has done an amazing job.

It has been wonderful, after a couple of years of not being able to visit other classes to be able to go round the school seeing all of the wonderful artwork that our classes have created.

Enjoy seeing our doors by viewing the link below.

P3A WB 28.11.22

Dear Readers,

We hope you are all well.

In P3A we have had a busy and slightly different week, since we had to prepare all the many things needed for our door. There is going to be a door’s contest and we wanted to make sure that we did everything we could to have a beautiful Christmas door to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus.

We had to ‘glittery’ paint tens and tens, maybe even hundreds, of stars and also the Nativity scene which was great to put our fine motor skills to the test! We also had to .glittery’ paint some very special and bright stars to have our own pictures and they look amazing!

We will be attaching a picture of the left hand side door this week and will share the main one next week.

The main one is the special one, this is just a little teaser…😂

Here it is:

All these stars were painted and cut out by us, of course!😊

But we have done many other things so here are our other highlights for the week:

  • Learning our new spelling words and completing activities with them.
  • Our learning about Advent, its meaning and the Advent wreath.
  • Our day dedicated to learning and working on the life of St. Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland and one of Jesus’ best friends. It was very surprising to find out what St. Andrew had to do with Scotland, and Mrs Valente really insisted that we understood that because of how important and interesting it is.
  • Continuing our column addition sums with carrying.
  • Our 7th Reconciliation lesson when we have learned about the story of Joseph and of how good and blessed by God he was. Everyone got very impressed at how he managed to forgive his own brothers for selling him to be a slave!
  • Completing our word searches and making our hidden words work with our spelling words.
  • Our very much enjoyed spelling assessment.

We would like to congratulate Ollie, our Hot Chocolate of the week for the second time in Primary 3, for his great efforts to continue being super kind towards all, not only in our class but everywhere in the school. Ollie has been picking up other people’s stuff, tidying up tables, looking after his peers’ stuff and helping out with anything that needs done! Well done, Ollie! What a super example to our class!👌👍😊🥇🏆

We would also like to congratulate our super Reading Champions!

Kayla was our first one, a fortnight ago! Well done, Kayla!❤

Kayla loves reading, even more than eating ice-cream!✨🏆😊

This week, our new Reading Champion is Julia! Super congratulations, Julia!❤

Julia loves reading so much that her advent calendar has little books instead of chocolates!🏆👍😍

We hope you have enjoyed our post and say goodbye for now, wishing everyone a great weekend and week ahead.😊

P3A and Mrs Valente
