P3A – WB 29.05.23

Dear Readers,

We hope you have enjoyed your week and have been enjoying this sunny day as well.

It was a pleasure having had the opportunity to catch up with so many Parents and Carers during the week.

In P3A our highlights of the week were:

  • Our new spelling words of the week, their practice and our weekly spelling assessment.
  • The fabulous class recount about the P3 Assembly, where you can read about all the things that happened.

Here is a copy for you to take a look at, since we are very proud of it!

Recount P3A collective work

  • The Maths work on greater than, less than, equal to that we are going to make even more challenging next week by comparing fractions.
  • The outstanding work that is being developed about the Rights of the Child to be displayed in our school’s Rights Respecting Wall in a couple of weeks and that is already looking super!
  • In order to have things ready for Parents and Carers to see, we had to have many things handed out by our amazing class helpers and we also had to tidy up and organise our trays which is always very good!
  • The Music story Midsummer  Night’s Dream was the chosen one and we absolutely loved it!

Because we were too busy at the end of the day we didn’t have enough time to find the Winning House of the Week or the Hot Chocolate but will let you know about this next week, don’t worry!

Wishing you a lovely Sunday, we say goodbye for now.

Mrs Valente and P3A😘😘

P1B Learning Highlights 2nd June 2023

Another busy week in P1B.  This week we received a letter to tell us the Dragon’s favourite book was about huffing and puffing.  We guessed it was ‘The Three Little Pigs’.  We read the story and sequenced pictures in to the correct order.  We worked in groups of 4 and acted out the story.  We all worked well in our groups and confidently performed for the rest of the class.  We made our own masks as well.  In writing we wrote what happened in the story using picture cues and a word bank.  We are getting very good at writing sentences now.

We made our own house for the pigs using cocktail sticks and marshmallows then we tried to blow them down like the big bad wolf using a hairdryer.

to try and blow We also completed a huff and puff challenge left by the Dragon where we had objects and make them move.  We also read the story of The Three Little Wolves’.

In Numeracy and Maths we continued looking at sharing and division.  We were able to successfully share amounts.  We also had great fun using the Bee Bots.  We programmed in directions and made them move.

In Health and Well Being we discussed the effect exercise can have on the body and discussed how the three little pigs would have felt running away from the big bad wolf.

Our Learning Highlights

Rose ‘I liked doing group work’

Faye ‘I liked acting out the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’

Luca ‘I liked watching the three little wolves’

Martyna ‘I liked writing about the wolf and the pigs’

Khaleesi ‘I liked testing the houses’

Victoria ‘I liked reading books’

Azmeer ‘ I liked when the three little wolves built a cement house’.

Well done to Azmeer  our Hot Chocolate winner this week.

Have a great weekend everyone and enjoy the sunshine!

Primary 4b weekly blog post 02.06.23

Well, we’ve come to the end of yet another busy week!  It was lovely to see so many parents and carers on Tuesday and Thursday and to celebrate all of the brilliant progress the children have made this year.

We’ve been learning about bees this week, and everyone has been so very engaged and enthusiastic!  We’ve learnt about why bees are important, the different types of bees, the life cycle of bees and how bees make honey.  Everyone has had so many questions and been such curious learners!  We’ve presented our work beautifully and particularly enjoyed making mini books to show how honey is made.

We’ve been continuing with measurement in maths, specifically learning about mass and capacity.  We’ve done really well with this topic and are now much more confident at working out the intervals on different scales.

Highlights:

Amelia: I enjoyed doing the how bees make honey mini book because I love the gluing and my partner helped.

Jude: I enjoyed doing bulldog in PE and the bee mini book as well because I enjoyed learning about bees and I like bulldog.

Ishani M: I also enjoyed learning about bees because it was fun to make the books and to talk to different people about it.

Well done to Maeve, our hot chocolate winner.

Have a lovely weekend everybody!

P5A weekly update: 2nd June 2023

Hi everyone, Ayden and Lili here!

On Monday we all had fun with PE outside. We played capt

ure the flag.

On Tuesday we enjoyed Reciprocal Reading and stations for maths. We have been working on algebra and 24hr time this week!

On Wednesday, the whole class went outside for ERIC because it was really nice weather, we really liked that! We also worked in groups to design and paint our very own sustainability banner! We were so creative and worked really well collaboratively.

Our favourite moment of Thursday was planting for outdoor learning. Emily soaked Francesca (accidentally!) with her watering can! We prepared the ground and continued on with our planting from last week. The garden is looking so much better!

Today we worked hard on our Article of the week noticeboard art. It is our turn to transform the Rights Respecting Schools noticeboard and we were tasked with Article 29. This is the goals of education. This means that education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.

At the end of the week we also reflected on how we were successful learners, responsible citizens, effective contributors and confident individuals this week. We put our answers in a form on the iPad.

We also went out to play a fun maths relay-race game in the sunshine.

Here are our favourite moments of the week:

Lili- My favourite part of the week was planting because we got to go outside in the hot air.

Ayden- My favourite part was PE because we got to play capture the flag.

Farrah and Emily- We enjoyed playing pull over the line and splat because it is really funny when you fall.

Bentley- My favourite part of the week was when we played football because my team won.

Nikola- I enjoyed ERIC outside because it was really nice weather and we got to have some fresh air.

Vijval and Tyler- We enjoyed planting because Max got his leg soaked.

Miss Ventisei- I enjoyed doing our 12 and 24hr time practice outside and seeing everyone so involved and happy when outside planting.

Here are some of our pics:

P2B Week Beginning 29th May

Hello P2B families!

Here are our highlights from the Blue Table:

Maya enjoyed making the paper mache planets.  She made Planet Earth with a group.  The children did fantastic teamwork to create the planets.  I hope you all enjoyed them when you came to visit this week.

Lilly loved visiting the library on Wednesday.  The lovely librarian, Jo, gave us a talk about what you can do in a library, how to join the library, read us a story and then the children were free to look at the various books.  Lilly looked at a book about mummies.

Theo said the best part of his week was playing outside with toys.  On Monday, it was so hot that we took some toys outside and enjoyed them in the shade.

Blair liked completing the different activities the class made for the ‘Create an Activity’ homework task.  We used berries (Maya’s idea), beads (Lily’s idea), ipad (Karina’s idea) and wrote our words in colour and in pencil (Amy’s idea).  It is not too late to submit an idea for P2B to complete in class as they learn to read and write their phonics!  We look forward to Olivia and Ishaan’s ideas for next week.

Tharun loved music with Mrs Morrison, where they used the ‘Incredibox’ app to make some music.

Mrs Devlin’s favourite part was of course welcoming our parents for consultations on Tuesday and Thursday.  It was so lovely to see you all again.  It is so hard to believe that we are coming to the end of our time together and your child will be in P3 soon!  How time goes in quickly.

Congratulations to Lewis, our Hot Chocolate award winner for this week.

Primary 1A Learning Highlights 2nd June 2023

This week the dragon left the story of the Three Little Pigs. We have completed lots of activities based on this book and had lots of discussions about the characters and setting. We had to build a house for the little pig using marshmallows and cocktail sticks. We worked with a partner and our teamwork was fantastic! Then the Big Bad Wolf (a hairdryer) blew down the houses. It was very funny. The dragon left us a Huff and Puff Challenge. We had to huff and puff to move different items across the floor and we had to record how many puffs it took. Some were very easy but some were challenging. For writing, we wrote a description of the Big Bad Wolf and we used lots of adjectives to describe him.

In maths, we have been learning about the division sign and we used counters to complete the division sums. We have also continued to practise making fact families using three numbers and we are more confident with this now.

Some of our personal highlights are:

Vedansh – I enjoyed making the little pig’s house.

Filip – I liked playing with the blocks.

Connor – I enjoyed making the houses and seeing the Wolf blow them down.

Summer Rose – I enjoyed the Big Bad Wolf blowing down the houses.

Lillian – I enjoyed doing the Huff and Puff Challenge.

Congratulations to Connor who is our hot chocolate winner this week.

P5B Blog 2nd June 2023

This week we have been discussing article 29 – Goals of Education -to develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment. We discussed the fact that talent needs to be practised to become even better. We discussed different types of exciting and interesting careers your children could take by developing their unique talents and gifts.

We continue to work on developing reading skills to clarify, predict and summarise whatever text they read as well as developing a wider word/vocabulary. In math, Algebra is a big hit with most children very enthusiastically taking part in lessons. We are also working on applying our knowledge of time to use train and bus timetables as well as improving data handling skills.

We continue to explore different body systems and how we keep our bodies healthy.

We continue to take care of local environment by taking care of the school gardens and growing our flowering plants and vegetables.

Next week the children will be meeting their new Primary 6 teacher which they are all very excited about. It was lovely to meet the parents again this week. Your children are a credit to all of your love, dedication and hard work. Thank you for all your support. Hopefully everyone will enjoy a lovely, sunny, relaxing weekend.

P2B Week Beginning 22nd May 2023

Hello P2B families!

Here are our highlights from the Green Table:

Musa said that he liked making a skeleton in the woods.  The children worked in groups to build a skeleton.  This was part of our learning about the human body.  The success criteria was: 2 bones for each arm and leg, ribs, spine and skull.

Sofia loved making a stomach.  We have been learning about the digestive system this week and then made our own stomachs using a bag, crackers and juice (to represent stomach juices).   Lots of, “ewhhhh” filled our classroom that day.

Olivia really liked playing ‘Duck Duck Goose’.  We went outside on Thursday afternoon to take refuge in the shade from the trees to cool us down, as the classroom was very hot that day.  After finishing our classroom novel there, we had a quick game before home time.

Eli  felt proud when we used his candy idea for our phonics lesson.  Thank you to all the children who submitted an idea for their literacy homework.  We used 3 of them this week for our ‘oy’ sound and will use the other 4 next week for our ‘ear’ words.

Ishaan thought that our class novel, The Magic Finger, was his favourite part this week.  Reading this has also been my highlight Ishaan!  The children were horrified to learn that The Gregg family hunted ducks!

Congratulations to Olivia, our Hot Chocolate award winner for this week and to Ishaan, our Reading Champion!

I look forward to welcoming you to our Parent Consultations on Tuesday or Thursday of next week!

P3A – WB 15.05.23 and 22.05.23

Dear Readers,

We hope you are all very well.

These are the highlights of the last two weeks:

  • In order to be ready and amazing for our Endangered Animals Assembly, we have spent much time practising and practising! But it was definitely worth it, what a beautiful assembly it was! The whole school were very proud of P3s, well done!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😍
  • We have had the opportunity to learn about the Ascension of Jesus and some of us went to Mass to celebrate it, which was very important!
  • Still regarding RE, we have learned about Our Lady of Fatima and the three little shepherds, Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta. All were delighted to watch a small clip with the story of the Miracle of the Dancing Sun, which happened the last time Our Lady of Fatima appeared and which was seen by around 70000 people at the time, on the 13th of May of 1917. When we finished, we also got to follow a tutorial to draw our own interpretations of the Miracle of the Sun and they are simply adorable!
  • Although we didn’t have a full week, we have restarted our routine the best we could with our new spelling words, spelling practice and, of course, weekly spelling assessment! Not the best week so we will need to work harder…😊
  • In maths, we have continued working with fractions, more specifically, placing fractions on a number line, and ended the week with an amazing timed interactive challenge where we had to place several sets of fractions in number lines in less than a minute! We loved it!😁
  • It was also very interesting answering to our Reading comprehension about our topic and learning even more about how to make a Recount.
  • The week ended with our Free Writing Friday and with Reward Time to all those who have been amazing at following the school rules of being Ready, Respectful and Safe all the time! It was great for them being taken to the area by Mrs Callaghan to play and have fun and we hope that next week many more of us will manage to go as well!🎉🎉🎉🎉
  • Many congratulations to Our dear Hot Chocolates, Miss Ella and Miss Zosia!🎈🎈🎈🎈🏆🏆🥇🥇They were both excellent and have set wonderful examples for all of how to follow the school rules at all times while having lots of fun! Well done to both!🥰👏👏👏👏

Supergirls!

Congratulations too to our Reading Champion of the Fortnight, our dear Mr David S!😀👏👏🥇📚

We also congratulate our winning house of the week, Ravenclaw, for their big efforts! Well done, Ravenclaw!👏👏👏🏆🎈

We say goodbye for now wishing you a lovely and sunny weekend!

Mrs Valente and P3A😘😘
