We’ve had lots of Christmas fun in Primary 2 this week!

In Writing, we watched the short film ‘The Snowman’.  The children then imagined that they were the child flying with the snowman, and wrote about all the things they could see on the ground.  We were amazed with some of the fantastic adjectives the children used in their descriptions.

In Maths, we continued to learn about more than, less than and equals to.  We were very impressed to see that the children could use the symbols correctly!  We also did some work on doubles up to 30.  We will continue to work on this next week, but this is something the children could definitely practice at home.

We have also been making lots of Christmas decorations for our classroom and even some to take home at the end of term.

Today was crazy clothes/hair day and the children (and staff) really did go crazy!  Here are some of the fantastic crazy styles that the children arrived in:

Here are the pupil learning highlights for this week:

Kacper:  I loved crazy day!

Owen:  I enjoyed playing with the K’Nex.

Enso:  I liked learning the ‘igh’ sound.

Lillian:  I liked decorating the paper cookies to make them all different like us.

Faye:  I enjoyed learning about the more than, less than symbols using the crocodiles.

We are very proud of Lillian who is our hot chocolate winner this week!  Lillian has been working extremely hard and is always, polite friendly and kind towards others.  Well done Lillian!

This week we have been revising all our sounds and common words. We played some Christmas games to help us practise reading our CVC words. For the first game, we had to build a Christmas tree shape with the letters and pictures. In the second game, we had to read the word and decide if it was a real word or a made up word. The real words went to Santa and the made up ones went to the Grinch. We loved reading the book Rudey’s Windy Christmas, it was very funny!

In maths, we have been practising our patterns and symmetry work. We played some Christmas games on Topmarks to help us.

We have been making lots of different Christmas decorations for the classroom. We made elves, reindeer, snowflakes and paper chains.

We have set up a hot chocolate station and Santa’s workshop in our role play area. Some of us enjoyed having hot chocolate while we were reading our books.

We had our dress rehearsal and two performances of our Nativity this week. Everyone said how wonderful we were and that our singing was fantastic.

Peyton – I enjoyed drawing on the smartboard.

Ollie – I liked playing with the mini cubes.

Matteo – I liked making the snowmen biscuits.

Maja – I liked making the snowmen biscuits.

Zuraib – I enjoyed eating lunch.

Joseph – I liked playing outside.

Davith – I enjoyed playing with the hammers in Santa’s Workshop.

Miss Stebbing – I was so proud of everyone at the Nativity. They had worked so hard for the past few weeks and it was lovely to share this with all the families.

Our class highlights from this week:

– On Monday we created posters displaying our learning and discussions about disability and inclusion. This was our Rights focus for the week. We discussed things such as “there’s no such thing as normal”, how we can celebrate our differences and how we are all unique and how we can ensure we are inclusive of everyone and respect their rights. The articles focus was article 23 children with disabilities and article 2 non discrimination.

– Tuesday of course was our reward day for a fantastic term and we made pizzas to watch with the Christmas movie!

– Highlight for Thursday was Miss Prokop (Lucy) taking the the class for a lesson about the history of Poland. This was planned excellently with a range of activities and discussions to get involved with.

– On Friday we held our advent service for the upper area – we told the story and sang some songs together.

Well to Eilidh for receiving the hot chocolate this week – our meta skill focus for this week was initiative and Eilidh has been actively working at this!

We had a wonderful week.

Reesa -“I liked doing my adding this week and challenging myself”

Lewis – “I liked maths! I like how you have to really think! When we did subtraction, I liked learning new things!”

Safaa – ” I loved Dragonistics! Learning about statistics!”

Maja – “Adding was my favourite! I don’t know why. I just love numbers!”

Sofia – “I liked making my own planet”

We had a packed week and the learners are doing a fantastic job!

For numeracy we continued subtraction and revised our addition strategies (written and mental). We continued using money also! This week, we were introduced to statistics with a fun game of Dragonistics! We all loved this!

In literacy, we continued with our reading and spelling! For writing we continued description! We’re using our description bubble to support us to use adjectives in our writing! We have been looking at space and The Earth and how to describe our home! The learners are doing very well with the planning of their writing and using reading to support this!

We’re continuing to review transport from past the and how things work! Very interesting talking about how things work, the learners are thinking of very good products and technologies! We will be looking at sensors and how this works to read data from different areas of the school. We are also looking at lost property and are starting a school campaign! Fantastic work!

Hello P3A families,

Here are this week’s highlights from the Yellow table:

Vivien and Laura loved wearing their PJs to school!

Diana enjoyed icing biscuits with Miss White.  The children ate them with their snack.

Angel said the best part of his week was our writing lesson were we wrote a descriptive piece called ‘My Teacher’.   He wrote a fantastic piece about Mrs Craig, his old P2 teacher. He was a Star Writer!

Olivia loved the reindeer pictures.  They were all so individual and will look amazing on the wall!

Ollie liked the Christmas movie, ‘Boss Baby’s Christmas’.  The class had a vote between two choices and this movie won.  Caleb conducted the survey of votes and did a super job!

Aadya enjoyed her delicious Christmas lunch.  She chose mac and cheese.  A big thank you to all the dinner ladies!

Hasika said the highlight of her week was the Scottish country dancing.  ‘The Grand Old Duke of York’ will be one of our Christmas party songs.

Linda loved listening to the story of The Paralysed Man from the Bible.

My highlight, like Hasika, was the Scottish country dancing.  The children worked hard to learn the sequence of movements and it all came today beautifully.

This week has been a very busy week for Primary 1. We have been doing lots of practices for our Nativity performance and we even got to try on our costumes. We are looking forward to going into the hall to practise on the stage in there.

In literacy, we read the story of Sneezy the Snowman who kept melting. We completed some writing to say what a snowman should not do and we had lots of great ideas. We are trying hard to use all the sounds we know and to find the common words we need. We also made some snowmen pictures that look like the snowmen are looking up into the sky.

In maths, we have been learning about the number bonds for 10. We have been doing lots of different activities to help us learn these important facts.

In RE, we lit the first candle on our Advent wreath and we have been taking turns to open the Advent calendar. On Friday, we took part in the Blessing of the Crib with Fr Clement.

On Wednesday, we had our Christmas lunch and it was delicious!

Some of our personal highlights this week are:

Tyler T – I loved my Christmas lunch.

Joseph – I liked playing with the blocks.

Sophia – I liked making the snowmen.

Bella – I liked drawing.

Peyton – I liked playing with the marble run.

Rudhvick – I liked reading the Christmas books.

Miss Stebbing – I enjoyed seeing everyone dressed up in their costumes and practising their songs on the stage.
