Primary 2 Weekly Update – 15.3.24

Good Afternoon,

What a fabulous week we have had in Primary 2!

There has been lots of learning and lots of fun.

We continued with our topic, ‘Under the Sea’.  The children researched and wrote about Octopus this week.  We could not believe the standard of the writing they produced, it was amazing!  Today, we started to learn about pollution in our oceans and thought about what we can do to help reduce plastic pollution.  The children were very passionate about this and we will continue to learn about it next week.

On Thursday, Destination Judo came into to school to give the children a taster session.  All of the children took part with enthusiasm and their behaviour and attitude was excellent.

In Maths, we learned about ordinal numbers at the beginning of the week and measure at the end of the week.  We used a metre stick to decide if things were longer or shorter than a metre and recorded it on our worksheet.

Highlights of the Week:

Aarav – I liked learning about and making an Octopus.

Alexander – I enjoyed learning about plastic pollution in our oceans.  I am going to try to help make the ocean clean.

Summer Rose – I loved watching Mrs Carlisle doing Irish dancing and teaching us to do it too.

Lillian – I liked learning about Octopus, especially that they have 3 hearts and 9 brains.

Cameron – I liked measuring in Maths.  We had to see if things were longer or shorter than 1 metre.

Huge congratulation to our hot chocolate Friday winner this week, Enso!  Enso is always has been working very hard in school and produced an amazing piece of writing about Octopus.  We are very proud of you Enso!

Our Reading Champion is Aaron.  Aaron has been working very hard with his reading and has been reading lots for enjoyment!

Have a great weekend everyone!

P2/1 highlights

We have had a fab time this week for book week.

We focused on the story ‘Horton Hears a Who’, reading it together in class, discussing friendships and what makes a good friend and thinking about the little ones, looking at size in math. We enjoyed watching the movie on Friday with the P7s in the hall.

We had the opportunity to visit the school library and pick ourselves a book to take home to read. We also enjoyed live author events where we listened to a story and then had a draw along to learn how to draw the books characters.

This week P1 learned the sound wh and P2 the ar sound. We also wrote beautiful sentences about why we love our mums.

P1 visited St Peter’s church on Wednesday, attending Mass. We were given loads of praise for how beautifully we all sat during Mass. we all attended Mass on Friday for Feast Day and enjoyed a piece of cake to celebrate St John Ogilvie.

We wish everyone a Happy Mother’s Day for Sunday and we hope you all enjoy your little envelope of love.

P5A – WB 04.03.24

Dear Readers,

We hope you have all had a great World Book Week!📚📚📚📚📚

In our school, World book Week is one of the most important weeks of the academic year and this time it included the Feast of our Patron Saint, Saint John Ogilvie, which made it even more special!

The highlights this week were many so here are just some of them:

  • Reading, watching and exploring the book ‘Horton hears a Who’. We have completed many World Book Week activities linked to it like a collection of the many rhymes of the book, a Reading Comprehension about the book, a Poster designed to find the missing Whos from the book and even Maths and Numeracy games. It was all very enjoyable.
  • Learning again about the story of Saint John Ogilvie, his life and the miracles God has performed through his intercession.
  • Preparing for Mass in honour of St John Ogilvie by learning new beautiful hymns and practising them over and over.
  • Drafting our bookmarks with positive quotes about reading which were then perfected to be gifted to Primary 3A.
  • Having been visited by Heriot Watt Student Ambassadors who came to help us with the planning of our future Eco School Models and who also came to guide us and make us think about how to create a good Bug Hotel from a given material. It was very interesting and at the end we all got to go to the Woodlands to leave our Bug Hotels in the best possible spots.
  • Going to the Woodlands to prepare our activity for the parents and carers next week. No spoilers here.😂
  • Preparing other things for parents and carers next week – No spoilers.🤣

We would like to congratulate our Hot Chocolate of the week, Mr Aaron, for setting a great example on how to follow the school rules!🥇👏Well done!✨

Congratulations also to The Cursed Child table children for making it win again! Super duper work! 🏆😃 It would be lovely to have the other tables trying their hardest to win as well!

It’s all for now, we hope you have enjoyed reading about our week and have a great weekend!😀

P6A Book Week

Hello P6A families,

We had a busy week all things Horton Hears A Who. We have listed the activities we got up to below with photo examples:

– We listened to the rap version of the book online and summarised the main ideas and themes of the book. We all then got a page of the book and planned our own song/rap. Some groups even went to other classes to perform.

– We went to the woodlands to make dens for the ‘Who’s’ to live in.

– We identified items outside with magnifying glasses to use as our own ‘spec’ and created art work, paying close attention the detail.

– We created travel advertisement posters about why you should visit Whoville.

P4b learning highlights 8th March

This week, primary 4 have done some tremendous work celebrating world book week and our love for reading, focussing on the book ‘Horton Hears a Who’.

Primary 4 have focussed their entire weeks learning around the book and have loved it. We have had a look at glossaries and and our own using tricky words from the story, we had to listen out for rhyming words in the book and the children then took their learning outdoors and searched outside for words with partners and had to rhyme them. We have created book arks for primary 2 celebrating world book week, we made posters to help find the missing Whos, created our own clovers and created alternative book covers for the book. We did lots of great and fun activities and even did a fun science experiment with Mrs Callaghan on Wednesday.

Thursday was our ‘drop everything and read’ day, and our children had fun stopping what we were doing and picking up their books, even during PE!

Today we had feast day mass, I was very proud of the children in p4b for their great listening and participation. We also made cards for international women’s day, to thank the amazing and strong women in our lives for being excellent role models and to show them appreciation for all they do for us. The children got a piece of cake for a treat and got to watch ‘Horton Hears a Who’ the film.

Well done this weeks hot chocolate winner David!

Well done to this weeks Secret Student winner Sean!

The reading champion is Ella!

Have a lovely weekend and I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday!

Primary 1 Learning Highlights 8th March 2024

This week we have been taking part in our school book week. We have been doing lots of activities based on the book ‘Horton Hears A Who’. We went up to the woodland to look for small things with the magnifying glasses and had some fun trying to find a Who! We also did lots of work on rhyming words and made a graph of our favourite characters. As part of our learning in RE, we made compliment flowers and we made our friends smile. We took part in the infant area Book Battle, where we had to vote each day for our favourite book.

On Wednesday, we went to St Peter’s to take part in morning Mass. Everyone commented on how respectful we were and Mrs McKissack gave us all a special sticker.

On World Book Day, we took part in a live read and draw along with Raahat Kaduji. We concentrated so well and produced some excellent illustrations. In the afternoon, the bell kept ringing and we had to Drop Everything and Read. We thought it was really fun!

On Friday, we celebrated the Feast Day of St John Ogilvie. We went to Mass in the hall and we were once again very respectful. After break we had a special treat and we got to watch Horton Hears a Who on the big screen with our buddies.

Some of our personal highlights this week are:

Tyler F – I enjoyed choosing my own learning.

Maja – I enjoyed making cards.

Leah – I enjoyed Outdoor Learning.

Joseph – I enjoyed playing with the ping pong balls.

Alfie – I enjoyed doing the Book Battle.

Peyton – I enjoyed playing with the sharks.

Congratulations to Bella who is our Reading Champion this week and to Joseph who won our Hot Chocolate Award.

P5A – WB 26.02.24

Dear Readers,

We hope you have all had a good week and are getting ready for your weekend.

In P5A we have been super busy, as always. These are the highlights of our week:

  • Super learning about decimal numbers and fractions. The whole class are completely addicted to fractions and are always asking for more and more work! It’s amazing!
  • Excellent note taking skills. As children are now much more used to taking notes from clips and texts, we have learned all about the BBC Microbit, which we are going to use for our Climate Smarter program, and they have taken notes which they then used to write their Information reports on the next day. So proud!😊
  • Learning about inference in a picture or a text and answering to many inferential questions about pictures. The children have given some very good answers to most of them and could always explain why they have given those answers.
  • Free Writing Friday is one of the weekly favourites, especially when followed by some boys and girls kindly sharing their stories. Today’s stories were hilarious and the whole class laughed and laughed!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
  • Learning more about wood and why it is the most environmentally friendly building material.🌳🌳🌳🌳
  • Looking at the pictures of the winning models of last year’s Climate Smarter challenge and starting to think about the features we would like our own models to have.
  • Our New Spelling Words and spelling assessment which have had great scores!
  • Learning about the differences in the narratives of Matthew, Mark and Luke when describing the Temptation of Jesus in the Bible. The children were very surprised at how much information Matthew and Luke had as opposed to Mark, who briefly writes about it without any detail.
  • We would like to congratulate Ben, our Hot Chocolate of the week for an absolutely remarkable week during which he has set an amazing example on how to follow the school rules! Well done, Ben!👏👏👏🥇 Ben realised that when he puts his mind to being amazing, he is amazing!
  • Congratulations again to our Cursed Child Table for their victory! Well done! 👏👏👏✨🏆 Hopefully next week others will follow their example and take the cup!
  • Finally, many congratulations to our Kindness Champions: Ailsa 👏🥇, Sophia 👏🥈 and Aaron👏🥉, always ready to help and assist you in any need!

We say goodbye for now hoping you have enjoyed our post,

P5A and Mrs Valente 😘😘
