P3B Learning Highlights 13/12/19

This week in P3B we have been reading the Christmasaurus – the book that Buster the elf brought us as a gift. We have been making predictions about what we think might happen next. On Monday, we went to the pantomime, it was Snow White. During numeracy and maths we did some Christmas themed addition and subtraction and also sorted elves into a Carroll Diagram. We continued our Christmas Around the World topic and Aeryn told us all about Christmas and New Year in Japan. She brought in a fun traditional Japanese game that is played at New Year for us to play. We also made some Chinese lanterns after learning about Christmas in China. We wrote a story all about our elves going on an adventure. On Thursday we had our Christmas lunch, it was very yummy! On Friday morning we joined P3A to learn Christmas songs in sign language.

Our Learning Highlights:

“I enjoyed writing about my elf.” – Rabail

“I enjoyed Christmas lunch. There was music outside.” – Zephaniah

“I enjoyed when Aeryn told us about Christmas and New Year in Japan and the game that she brought in.” – Niamh

P3B Learning Highlights 6/12/19

This week in P3B during PE we showed Mrs Lafferty our best dancing. When we came in on Monday, we had a visitor in the classroom. Buster the Elf has been visiting us from the North Pole every day this week. In science we learned about nocturnal animals. We learned about advent and made kindness advent calendars. For writing we created an elf profile. For maths we had to solve The Mystery of the Missing Reindeer Bells by solving different problems to find clues. We also learned about the properties of different 3D shapes. For our topic we started learning about how Christmas is celebrated in different countries around the world. On Friday morning we learned how to draw The Christmasaurus!

Our Learning Highlights:

“I liked when we were doing our best best dancing. We learned how to do different dances for our Christmas party. We can do these dances at a ceilidh” – Aeryn

“I enjoyed doing dances to the times tables. My favourite is the 10 times table” – Amelia

“I enjoyed doing the elf profile because it was about elves and those are my favourite Christmas things. We wrote about the appearance and what it liked and what it dislikes.” – Jayden

“I liked when we looked at people who lived in different countries and Christmas around the world. I liked learning about France.” – Sophie-Leigh

“I learned times tables. My favourite one is probably the 5 times table. I can use groups to help me.” – Jamie

“I liked when we were learning about bats in science. I learned that there were different kinds of bats one called a fruit bat and one called a vampire bat. There are only 3 vampire bats in the world.” – Gracie

“I liked signing songs in sign language.” – Vivien

P4B Change starts with us!

This week is Anti Bullying week and we have been thinking about how to be a good friend. We spoke about the importance of speaking up for ourselves and for others. We decided we would like to wear odd socks to school today to celebrate difference and to celebrate our uniqueness.

P1a Highlights week beginning 28/10/19

P1a had a fantastic week. We met the ‘ a ‘ sound and Emily decided to stick the apple she made on her head which made us all laugh.

Ben: ‘ Miss Smith’ starts  with ‘ m’ and  ‘ s ‘ .

P1a also had a fantastic time taking part in all the halloween activities.

Caelan: ‘ My favourite part was when we got to go to P2 and make the biscuits. ‘

P1a have also started working with numbers 1 to 20.  Identifying the numbers and placing them in the correct order.

p1A Highlights week beginning 21/10/19

Miss Smith is so proud of primary 1A for working so hard in their literacy this week. As we had a week off, we were revising our sounds taught so far ‘ m, c, s and p’. We worked in partners looking at different pictures, we had to say each word slowly,  then, ‘ chop it up’ and decide whether the m, c, s or p was at the start or end of the word. We even met the two friends ‘.. ck’ for when we hear the ‘ c ‘ sound at the end, like the word ‘ socks’.

We also finished our leaf crowns but realised when we were making them that they were too long for crowns.

We also had lots of light bulb and funny moments:

Sophia: one time papa put a cabbage in my head and he cut it in half and put it on my head

Ben: the word points  starts with p and ends with s

P4B

This week P4B worked hard on rounding numbers to the nearest 10 to estimate sums. They also continued their learning of using rulers, metre sticks and tape measures to measure lengths.

They continued to work on making inferences. Using a picture they answered literal and inferential questions with their learning partners. They also thought about Autumn and wrote a fantastic story.

This weeks challenge was to build a boat as another means of the Gingerbread man crossing the river. There was some great co-operative work going on and fantastic designs produced.

P6a Weekly News

P6a have had a very busy week.  Highlights of this week were being recorded by West Lothian Council singing Christmas songs and having our recording viewed by over 300 people on social media!  Also we really enjoyed using our teamwork skills to build models of space stations as part of our current topic.

We attended Blessing of the Crib this morning and sang for the P1, P2 and P3 children.

Next week we are looking forward to Christmas Lunch!
