P6A Update

Hi P6A families,

We have had a busy and successful week, which I am incredibly proud of everyone for. Our meta skill focus of the week was โ€˜creativityโ€™ and we all definitely managed to achieve that!

We have continued our pupil teaching and we are all enjoying the skills that are being taught. I have been very impressed with the effort and time that has being going in to prepare activities, tasks and PowerPoints.

Recent pupil highlights:

– gymnastics obstacle courses for PE

– creating Rights posters using our names (using the rights articles to make a poem using our names)

– making drama predictions for our Into The Forest book

– investigating and exploring different ways to create a racecourse for a marble. We have enjoyed using our STEM skills

Francesca received the hot chocolate this week for preparing a fantastic activity for her teaching time. We were all very impressed with the work that went into this and we all enjoyed taking part in the mystery challenge.

Have a lovely, well deserved February week! Looking forward to all the stuff that has been planned already.

After lunch we did some light 15 minute reading then we did some more research on our Scottish author task. Finally to finish off we did some gymnastics for PE.

On Tuesday we did some work on indirect speech. Then we wrote a plan for a Scots poem on any animal of our choice. After snack we did more work on BOMDAS for Maths. Then after lunch we did some reading then Music with Mrs Morrison. Then finally to finish off we did work on sports in French.

On Wednesday we wrote our Scots poem on our animal of our choice. Then after snack we did RLPS on our laptops for Maths. After lunch we did some reading then presented our Scottish authors research task. To Finish off, we did Gymnastics for PE.

P4b Learning highlights 2nd February 2024

This week Primary 4 have done lots of learning.

Our spelling this week was based on the Scottish words we learned last week for Burns’ day, the children loved learning what all the different words meant. Our numeracy has been focussed on word problems for the multiplication we have been learning over the last few weeks. The children have been great at putting their learning into context and understanding what kind of questions relate to different sums. This week our focus was multiplying 2 and 3-digit by 1-digit, and next week we will be looking at multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000 using word problems.

Topic this week focussed on researching the process of recycling paper and how it happens, in preparation for next week when we will be attempting to recycle and make our own paper.

Our communion preparation is going well, this week the children learned about the penitential act and that this is asking God and everybody around us to forgive our sins. the children all got a little pebble and thought of a sin they want to let go, they then dropped this into a bowl of water symbolising them handing it over to God. Our non-sacramental children learning about other world religions, learned about Hinduism this week.

We learned about how nouns, adjectives and verbs are used in information reports and did a highlighting activity where we went through a passage and highlighted all of the nouns present. The children were great at spotting all of them!

We had a little lesson about respect and how we can show more respect to others at school, in an effort to highlight how important respect is and how this goes hand-in-hand with friendship. The children had some wonderful ideas about respecting their peers, teachers and school building, hopefully we can all remember toย  put these into practice!

Well done to our winners this week, they have not received their prizes as we ran out of time on Friday so they will be told on Monday!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and get lots of rest!

P5A – WB 29.01.24

Dear Readers,

We hope you are all well.

Here are the highlights of our week:

  • Continuing learning about decimal numbers and how to turn them into fractions.
  • Reading comprehension about the Life of a shepherd in Bethlehem, which most boys and girls found particularly tricky but also very interesting.
  • The new Spelling Words and all the work to practise them during the week so that Friday’s score continues being really good, just like last week!
  • Learning about the Global Goals for sustainability, being able to discuss them in groups and making beautiful posters to display in our class explaining them!
  • For our Climate Smarter project, we have learned many important things about Forest Management, learned how the forest management cycle works, developed our understanding on the reasons why wood is considered the most sustainable building material and have followed closely what happens to it, from the moment it is cut out to the moment it comes to our houses as a beautiful piece of furniture, for example.
  • We have also learned about something very sad that was remembered in the last few days, The Holocaust. All children felt very shocked while learning about the events related to it and, of course, while learning about the terrible atrocities of the time. Fortunately they all understood that the reason why it is so important to learn about terrible events from the past is to make sure we learn lessons from them in order not to repeat them in the future. Since in our everyday Prayers we always ask for God to stop the current wars and prevent any others from starting, it was very sad to have realised that the people who have started the current wars don’t seem to have learned any lessons from the past.
  • Our weekly spelling assessment had great scores which will be shared with the class on Monday. Well done for the great spelling work!
  • Super congratulations to our Hot Chocolate of the Week, Miss Sophia, who will be wearing our new and special class medal! ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฅ‡
  • Super sweet congratulations also to our Kindness Champions, Mr. Aaron, Mr. John and Miss Pixie! Your kind gestures are very much appreciated by all of us and we are very proud of you!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿฅ‡โคโคโค
  • Finally, congratulations to our House winners of the week, The Cursed Child! Well done and keep it up!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ†

We say goodbye for now wishing you all a great weekend!

P3A Week Beginning 29th January 2023

Hello P3A families,

Here are this weekโ€™s highlights from the yellow Table:

Viven enjoyed trying some โ€˜soft gโ€™ foods as part of her phonics lesson.ย  The options to try were: vegetables, gingerbread men and oranges.ย  She enjoyed the vegetable sugar snap peas best.

Riley and Linda both reported that building Linlithgow Palace was the learning highlight of their week.ย  Linda built hers using a cardboard box and Riley built his with lego.ย  Linlithgow Palace is a landmark of West Lothian.

Aadya liked demonstrating her understanding of what the 4 times tables looked like.ย  She discovered that the answers were double to answers to the 2 times table.ย  Well spotted Aadya!

Olivia loved making a leaflet about restaurants in West Lothian.ย  Her team worked well together to research restaurants.ย  They included useful information such as the address, opening hours, pictures of the food and their website.ย  Good job!

Ollie said the best part of his week was the football after school club.

Diana loved making the word โ€˜gemsโ€™ with gems as part of soft g learning.ย  The words looked very sparkly!

My highlight was our RE lesson about The Good Samaritan as part of โ€˜Godโ€™s Loving Planโ€™.ย  The children could recall many Bible stories prior to the learning.ย  After listening to the story, they acted it out and then accompanied various words from the story to movement.ย  We call this โ€˜Story Massageโ€™.ย  Ask your child to show you the different massage movements.ย  They included: Fan, Walk, Sprinkle, Circle, Wave and Calm.ย  The children enjoyed this relaxing exercise so much that we hope to build it in to a lesson in the near future!

Congratulations to Aadya, our hot chocolate award winner this week!

Lead Learners were Diana and Chahiti.ย  They had the important role of looking out for people who were demonstrating our school rules of being Ready, Respectful and Safe.ย  They also get to say something extra for the blog:

Linda – โ€œI liked going to the cloakroom and telling the teacher who was being sensible.โ€

Caiden – โ€œI liked football with Miss White.โ€

Regards

P5B Weekly Blog 2nd February 2024

Primary 5B learning this week was interesting and varied. On Monday we continued to develop our spelling skills as well as exploring a range of sentence openers and connectives to uplevel our writing skills. In our PE lessons we continue to explore our Gymnastic skills by working with our partners to demonstrate counter balances and include it in a short presentation.ย  Everyone had fun learning to code a programme which turned the lights on with a clap of their hands once they transferred the programme to their microbits. They hope to use these skills in their eco school models.

This week in math we continued to learn about recognising and matching equivalent fraction, decimals and percentages. We continued to learn how to measure accurately using rulers and measuring tapes. In RRSA we explored Articles 2, 13, 17 and discussed ways to reduce inequalities and respect the rights of others by treating everyone the way we wish to be treated.

As part of our John Muir Topic used our research to write information reports. Pupils chose parts of his life and legacy to share in their reports. They also created their own John Muir portraits with one of his inspirational quotes included. Inย  the woodlands we cleared some twigs and branches from the ground and set them aside to dry so that they can be used at a later date. We continued to explore different types of wood for building, insulation and cladding. On Friday morning we had an assembly with Mrs McKissack and she told us we have visitors coming to see how good we are at learning and find out about our Rights Respecting Journey. We are still waiting to find out if we have achieved the Gold Award but we are very hopeful.

We hope everyone has a great weekend.

Weekly Highlights – WB 29/1/24

Hi Families of P2

The children have had another busy and fun week. We learned all about Scottish animals this week and the children worked in teams to carry out research about their chosen animal. They then created beautiful posters.

We used our creative skills to create 3D kilts and paint our very own McCoo pieces of art. They are all displayed beautifully within our classroom.

The children have shown great skills and enthusiasm during our PE lessons, where we’re learning gymnastics. This week we got the spring board out and practised our pencil jumps. We have learned lots of balances that the children can all perform well.

Weekly Highlights

Azmeer – I loved making the McCoo’s in art.

Aarav – I enjoyed making the Scottish Animal posters. I worked with Aaron.

Alex- I really liked the assembly, especially the prayers.

Olga – I love gymnastics.

Have a lovely Weekend!

Primary 1 Learning Highlights 2nd February 2024

This week we have been reading ‘Who’s At The Door?’ as our Wordboost book. We have loved listening to the story and we think it is very funny. We have been knocking the classroom door and pretending to be the characters from the story. In phonics, we learned the ng sound and we had to read words with the sound and cross out the pictures on the sheet. We have started to learn about information reports in writing and we practised using the common words and, have and are.

In maths, we have been learning about odd and even numbers. We used numicon to help us identify the correct numbers. Ask us how we know if the number is odd or even using the numicon pieces. We also continued to practise counting in 2s and we are showing confidence with this.

In topic, we learned about where our food comes from and we had to match up the product to it’s source.

In RE, we have been completing our work for God’s Loving Plan by labelling the parts of the human body.

In PE, we used all our skills in jumping, balancing and rolling to complete activities using the equipment. We had to balance carefully on the benches and jump safely off the small platform.

During Health and Wellbeing with Mrs Broadley we sorted things that are safe or unsafe to touch.

During Choosing Our Own Learning Time some people were very interested in making necklaces by twisting the laces together. They also used some foam beads to create some necklaces too. Some people also had a game of snap, which was great fun!

Some of our personal highlights this week are:

Bella – I enjoyed the Wordboost book.

Zuraib – I enjoyed playing with the cups.

Alfie – I enjoyed drawing on the smartboard.

Eliza – I enjoyed drawing.

Maksymilian – I enjoyed playing with the marble run.

Miss Stebbing – I was very proud of everyone during PE. They all showed that they had listened to the safety rules and were able to show different skills on the equipment.

P5A – WB 22.01.24

Dear Readers,

Once again, welcome to P5Aโ€™s blog.๐Ÿ˜ƒ

This week, we will start by congratulating our Hot Chocolate of the Week for her amazing behaviour, readiness, kindness and for always going beyond what would be expected to set the best possible example for all her friends โ€“ Well done, Miss Ailsa!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ†๐Ÿฅ‡โœจ

We would also like to congratulate our sweet Sophia for becoming the Reading Champion of the Fortnight! Super! Always taking her extra bits of time to catch up on her reading instead of chatting away! Well done!๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿ†โœจ๐Ÿ‘

Now, here are the highlights of the week:

  • Continuing learning about decimals, in more and more interesting ways!
  • Starting our learning about the incredible and adventurous John Muir, who is also the object of our new Topic.
  • Drawing our beautiful portraits of John Muir by following an art tutorial which taught us how to mix wax crayons and colouring pencils in different layers to give more complexity to our colouring. They look absolutely amazing!๐Ÿ–ผ
  • Reading comprehension about John Muir and a brief biography of his life.๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ—ป
  • Learning everything about the importance of the Water cycle, the quantity of water available in our planet and also the fact that the water we currently have is the same one our ancestors did, since there are no sources of water out with the Earth. We have also learned about the importance of water filtration, especially in poorer countries where the lack of it represents a big danger to public health. We were amazed by a Ted Talk that we watched about the Life Saver Bottle, designed to instantly filter the water inside it! It was just unbelievable!๐ŸŒ…
  • Thinking about the talents God created us with and what we can do with them to make a better world.๐ŸŒŽ
  • Finally, our weekly spelling assessment was a success, with everyone getting very high scores! We were all very proud!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘โœจโœจโœจ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†

That’s all for this week! We say goodbye wishing everyone a great weekend and week ahead.
