Primary 7 Tuesday 12th May AM

Good morning P7, ready for today’s challenges?

Today’s Literacy Work:

We are going to be focusing on comprehension, the questions are based on chapters 3 and 4 of White Fang so make sure you have a copy of the book open to help you with your answers. Remember to answer in full sentences, the best way to do this is to use the words from the question to help write you sentence. You can complete this either in your home learning jotter or on a computer document.

There is a starter task that will give you some ideas about answering the trickier ‘inferential question’ – the kind where the answer isn’t always right in front of you, it may involve reading between the lines.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Flash.aspx?e=reading01

Today’s Maths Work:

Can improve on your score from yesterday or if you are finishing ALL 72 correctly can you beat your time?  Post your scores/times to Your Personal Learning Blog.

BMBT Learn Its Week 4

https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/stjohnogilvieprimary/files/2020/04/BM100second.mp3

Yesterday we introduced the concept of Distance, Speed, Time.  There are 3 rules to learn that let you work them out.  This website has a little refresher for you.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/z4swxnb/video

2b – you worked on finding out distance yesterday (and did really well) by using D = S x T

Today you are going to work out time by using T = D/S

2b SDT Time

3a – you have mixed problems today, you’ll have to read the problems closely to discover which rule you need to use. This will be a helpful reminder.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/z4swxnb/revision/1

3a Time-Distance-Speed 3

Calculators are allowed when working out Distance, Speed, Time.

Remember to post work up to your Personal Learning Blog.

P5B Tuesday 12th May AM

Good Morning everyone.

Today is International Nurses Day. 200 years ago today a pioneering lady was born who changed what is was to be a nurse and made huge improvements for the sick and injured resulting in the survival of a lot more people. Its an important thing to recognise especially with the NHS being so busy and important to helping those ill with coronavirus. I have added links to choose from some lovely nurse related posters to copy or colour and display in a window to say thanks to all  nurses.

Nurses then and now         Nurses Day          Florence              Thank you nurses

Literacy

Some interesting information and a comprehension task about Florence Nightingale

Florence-nightingale-powerpoint_ver_2

FN Comp PineWillow               FN Comp Syc               FN2 Comp Birch

FN2 Comp Oak Chest

Numeracy

Continuing with fractions. Equivalent Fractions Activity Sheets-1-3

The first sheet can be a cut and stick activity to match the equivalent fractions. or you can draw them in sets. If thats not possible then look at task 2 and 3 which you can write the sets.

Primary 6 Morning Post 12-05-20

Good Morning Primary 6,

Hopefully you’re all ready for some new tasks today.

First up, maths.

Maths Starter 12-05-20

We’re going to practise the written method for division this week.  Have a look at the powerpoint presentations to remind you how to go about these before you attempt your tasks:

Mild Maths PPP 12-05-20

Spicy-Hot Maths PPP 12-05-20

Mild Maths 1 12-05-20

Mild Maths 2 12-05-20

Spicy Maths 1 12-05-20

Spicy Maths 2 12-05-20

Hot Maths 1 12-05-20

Hot Maths 2 12-05-20

Our next task is very exciting!  We are starting a new novel! (Can you tell how excited I am?)  The novel is called The Last Wolf and is written by Michael Morpurgo.  Today we are going to do some tasks just by looking at the cover and blurb.  There are two cover versions of this book:

The Last Wolf Cover 1

The Last Wolf Cover 2

Have a look at both cover pictures.  What do you think the story will be about?  What does the title mean, i.e.: the last wolf ever? The last wolf in a certain place? The last wolf in a queue? The last wolf to be photographed? Something else?  What clues do the two different covers give you?  Which cover appeals to you most and why?

Next, have a look at where the first part of the story is set (page 1 of task sheet) do you recognise the area?  What do you already know about this area?  Read the blurb (page 2).  The annotations (extra information) should help you understand it.  Look at the Impressions and Predictions sheet (page 3).  Complete the table in your jotter or directly in your Personal Learning Blog.

The-Last-Wolf_1

Enjoy your morning everyone!
