P2B Week Beginning 5th October

Hello P2B Families!

Here are our best bits of the week.  I hope you enjoy going on this learning journey with us:

Amelia reported that she liked learning about skin this week.  Did you know that our skin is our biggest organ?  We learned that skin can be different colours, that it grows with you as you get older, that it gets wrinkles (like Mrs Devlin’s eyes according to Matteo) and that scabs form on our cuts to help our skin heal.  We must never pick at our scabs as they are doing an important job!  Our skin holds our insides inside otherwise everything would spill out!

Jude loved Free Writing Friday today and confidently shared his Sonic story with us.  We tried to add an adjective about size into our story.  Jude wrote the very exciting sentence, “…smaller than an ant.”

Daniel’s highlight was handwriting.  We revised the formation of ‘b’ and ‘p’.  We know they both begin with a downward then upward movement.

Markuss loved making a body sculpture using tinfoil to finish off our topic of ‘The Body’.  We had to manipulate a sheet of tinfoil to create a body.  We were not allowed to use glue or sellotape, plus we had a challenge!  We had to make it sit, stand or hang!  Most people were able to complete the challenge.  A super try everyone!

Mrs Devlin’s highlight was when we looked up the location of St John’s Hospital (links with Our Body topic) on Google Earth.  The children were AMAZED to see how it was located from Space!  We then looked up our school and then where I went to school!  Very exciting stuff!

I hope you all enjoy the upcoming break and I will see everyone back on Wednesday 21st!

Primary 7B Weekly Update

Dear Parents, here’s what’s been going on in P7B this week.

In maths, we have been continuing our work on subtraction but are now ready to move onto multiplication after the holidays – some times tables at home will help us be prepared for this.  We continue to enjoy the Real Life Problem Solving App – ask us about this week’s profit calculating activity. And we revisted tellling the time using analogue clock faces – it was pretty tough for some of us.

In literacy we wrote some excellent pieces of Personal Writing and it was good to think back to different times in our lives.

In HWB we have been using God’ Loving Plan to learn about changes that we experience when we grow up and having a chat with us about this will help us feel more confident.

We built dens outside in the woodlands using tarps, poles, rope and things we could find around the woods. It w.as a lot of fun and we all took different approaches to building.

Here is an update from this week’s Lead Learners:

This week P7B has been doing lots of subtraction with large numbers in maths, in topic we were finishing pictures made of different materials for our rainforest display. In PE we have also doing some orienteering with Mrs Lafferty. Plus making fun dens in outdoor learning on Thursday.

In spelling we have been working on different fun spelling cards with challenges like pyramid writing, bubble writing and more. Also in RE we have been reading some verses out of the bible and discussing what’s happening in them, and we having been reading more of our class novel ‘The Explorer’.

Melody and Neil

Enjoy the October break,

Mr McGurn and P7B

P1B Week Beginning 5th October 2020

We have had another busy and productive week in P1B.

We have been learning the letter and sound p.  We picked apples from our school apple tree and made apple prints.

We have been practising writing our sounds and common words.

We played a game of sound splat to see if we could identify our sounds and then begin to blend our sounds to make cvc words.

In writing we wrote a sentence about what we can smell.  We worked hard to use finger spaces between our words and a full stop at the end of our sentence to show we were finished.

We played playground games for outdoor learning.
We read the story ‘Enemy Pie’ and drew our own ingredients for a friendship pie.
We worked on ordering numbers to 10 and 3D shapes, identifying which roll, stack and slide.
We learned about our tongue and how we taste. We read the story ‘The Incredible book eating boy’ and identified and drew 5 foods we like the taste of.
What we liked in school this week :
Ella   I liked using the chalks, i made shapes
Anthony   I liked doing the big Numicon

P7A week ending 2nd October 2020

Sorry we didn’t post on Friday but we had a very busy day.

On Friday, we presented our Assembly about Kindness to P4-P7.  We felt nervous, happy and excited before it started.  We had been preparing it for just over two weeks.  Everyone who wanted to say something got the chance to and we all took part in some way.  After Sarah introduced us, we started by signing (not singing) a song about including everyone and being kind, we made a kindness video to show the classes some ideas of how to be kind and to “pay kindness forward”, a group of boys wrote and performed a rap and managed to include Dave, our class pet slot, we told the story of Danny and his “Karma Army” and how he changed the lives of some people particularly in London.

We plan to follow Danny’s example and try to spread kindness around St John Ogilvie school.  Today we will give “kindness jars” to P4-P7.  We hope that the jars will be filled with acts of kindness that pupils do for one another.

It was also Maths Week Scotland and we used Blether Stations to discuss maths in real life situations and completed a fun problem solving maths activity called “Murder at the Movies”.

Have a great week everyone!

In science, we have been learning about our sense of taste.  We made popcorn, it was great fun.

We have been learning all about the letter ‘p’.

During Outdoor Learning we were looking at the trees because the leaves are changing colours.  We saw yellow, green, brown, orange and red leaves.  We played with the outdoor learning toys.  Some people even tried to build a den.

We’ve practised writing our numbers all the way from 0 up to 10.

Some of our personal highlights were:

Kyle – I liked doing maths.

Minny – I liked learning how to write ‘p’.

Ben – I liked outdoor learning.

Rebekah – I liked playing with the fire engine.

Primary 4B Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

This week’s update for what we have been learning in P4B .

We have been working very hard this week with our maths. We have been taking part in the Scotland-wide Sumdog competition. This will help us prepare for the West Lothian competition which starts in November. We have also been learning more about 3D shapes finding faces, edges, vertices and vertex.

We have continued to practise our daily spelling. We are using describing bubbles in class to try and write Primary 4 level sentences. This has helped us writing interesting stories. This week we worked in trios or pairs to  investigate a famous Scottish Inventor. We then started to write a report about him, when our reports are finished we will share them with you on our personal learning blog.

In Science we have been investigating how an electrical circuit works by building our own circuits and lighting a light bulb and a sound box.

During our Outdoor Learning we collected autumn leaves to create artwork which will be posted on our learning blogs next week.

On Friday morning we all watched Primary 7 Kindness Assembly on Teams. They encouraged us all “To be the reason someone smiles today.”

Some of remembered to post our homework to share with Mrs Miller.

Next week is the final week of our first term in Primary 4.
