Welcome to our virtual classroom! The children have a homework jotter to keep at home with a spelling and maths grid. In addition, activities will also be on the virtual classroom to access at any time. Please encourage the children to take photos of their work and upload them to their glow blog.

Daisy – I enjoyed doing cross country in P.E

Grant – I enjoyed making notes by watching the electricity video clip

Samyuthka – I enjoyed doing the comprehension questions on Alexander G Bell.

Adam – I enjoyed doing rounding to the nearest ten and then doing our daily 10 questions.

Josh – I liked doing my Maths with Miss Smith and listening to our class novel The Boy at The Back of the Class.

Joshua – I enjoyed making my map of Spain.

Elizabete – I enjoyed exploring the triggers in our emotion works lesson and counting the number of faces and edges looking at 3d shape.

The pupils were fantastic at taking notes for the first time. Sam described taking notes and writing ‘ wee sentences’.  When Miss Smith asked the pupils what sort of jobs would involve taking notes, Daisy shared that she had seen her mum take notes at her place of work.

We hope every one had a lovely September holiday.  It was great seeing everyone back at school on Wednesday.

Although it was a short week this week we were again very busy.

We practised forming our sounds on whiteboards and in shaving foam.

We learned to count syllables and we can clap the syllables in our names.

In Writing we wrote a fabulous sentence about what we could SEE on the farm.  We are remembering to use finger spaces between our words and a full stop at the end of our sentence.

We learned about the number 8, how to write it and different ways to make it.  We practised using Numicon by making a Numicon city.

We learned about our sense of hearing and went into the woods to do a hearing scavenger hunt and we also did an animal sound listening quiz which we loved.

Today we were very excited as we met our buddies for the first time through a Teams meet on the computer.  We made a heart for our buddy and they made one for us.  Although we cannot physically be together it was great to see them and put a face to their name.  We can’t wait to see them again soon.

A short week but a great one.

Virtual Classroom

The children have been excited about this for weeks. Our virtual classroom is now ready. This will be a space where homework will be posted for the week, alongside useful learning resources and little messages from Mr Pentland and Mrs Morrison. This is new and any feedback is welcome on how this works for adults at home and the children. I have to thank the class for their patience and waiting on this being created. Please see our virtual classroom below, the children have also been given access to this link via teams.

Morning chat/HWB

During our morning chats this week, the children have been discussing what they’ve heard on the news and have given each other great words of encouragement and motivation. Our discussions have been rich and critical. This has been very good for the class to break down the news and for us to address any misunderstandings we may have. From this we have began to look at who our ‘everyday heroes’ are and have started brainstorming how to express our appreciation. We will be working on this as a project over the next few weeks.

Numeracy/Maths

In numeracy this week we have been looking at multiplying and dividing by powers of 10. The time we have spent on this has been useful and illustrates to the children the reason why we add and remove zeros when multiplying and dividing by 10, 100, 1000 and so on. I have added a bitesize web page on this  for ‘homework’ to support understanding. For the foreseeable, homework will be online-based using sumdog, prodigy and/or bbc bitesize.  We have now been introduced to decimals. We will continue place value next week – looking at tenths, hundredths and thousandths. With Mrs. Morrison, the class have been doing angles, which they all have been telling me great things about.

Today is the start of Maths Week Scotland 2020. The class have been entered into the Sumdog contest for this. We will make time for this in class but this can also be done at home.

Literacy

For literacy this week, we have continued using our ‘description bubble’. This week we wrote a descriptive story based on a volcano. The children enjoyed this task and have shown off their writing skills along with their knowledge of volcanoes learned through their topic based research. Very impressed with everyone.

Again, it has been a great week in P6B! A massive thank you from Mr Pentland and Mrs Morrison. We hope you all have a fantastic weekend and can’t wait to see you all again next week! 

A short week to update you all on but lots of excellent work produced in primary 6!

Literacy: This week we were writing about people that inspire us. Some of us wrote about people we know and others chose to write about famous celebrities.

Maths: We have been enjoying being back on Prodigy Math. Some children have even been working hard on this at home too. We have also been focusing on decimals this week and successfully rounded decimals to the nearest whole number.

IDL: We have been researching earthquakes and learned about how to measure them on the Richter scale. We enjoyed learning about how to stay safe during an earthquake and made posters to display in our class.

Art: Using our knowledge of shape and creativity we produced drawings of towns destroyed by an earthquake.

Dear readers,

We hope you have had a really fantastic week and that you have enjoyed your September break!😃

This week we have continued our work on giving directions using the compass points and are becoming true experts at that!🧭

We have started to use water colours for our trees and they look really nice. Some of us will have them finished by the end of today and we will try to take pictures and attach them to this post.

For Literacy, we have been working on trickier connectives so that we can use them in our writing to make it even better.

As usual, we have started Friday with our Big Maths, beat that and our Spelling assessment.

For our Spelling words, we have used particularly tricky and commonly used ones to try and learn really well how to spell them.

In Music, we have been learning about the Intro song for Doctor Who and also about beats for new songs.

In PE we have been skipping and that has been lots of fun!

This week we didn’t change our classroom jobs because it was a shorter week so, if we have been class monitors and have done really well, we will be rewarded next week with even more points than usual!

In RE, we learned what a parable is and we have studied the parable of the Lost Sheep. We also answered to questions about it and have drawn a picture related to this beautiful parable.
