P3B Learning this Week

What a week!  We have just finished our assembly performance for the P1-P3 classes and we taught them about Respect.  We had loads of fun and told them the story of Mr Rude and how important it is to have manners.

Our other news this week – Fatima M really enjoyed playing number board games with her friends and James especially enjoyed learning what was in our Read, Write, Count bags.  Everyone loves the tape measure and we have been measuring everything in our classroom – including Mrs Callaghan!  We are taking our bags home today and cannot wait to show our adults the books.

We made fact posters about Owls and used our drawing skills and what we have learned about owls to put facts on the poster.

Jude and Olivia really enjoy watching Newsround every day with our snack and milk.  Jude likes learning facts about our world and Olivia likes that it gives you information about the world and that you learn about animals that you don’t know.

Next week, we will have lots of fun and are looking forward to meeting the next bird on our wellbeing Wednesday journey (we think it might be a penguin!).

This week in P7A

Hello Everyone,

We’ve had another busy week in P7A.

We played longball in the gym for PE this week.  We haven’t used the gym since coming back in August, and we won’t be able to again for a while, so it was quite exciting!

We’ve entered a nature writing competition and we have to write about the four seasons.

In maths, we were learning about calculating the perimeter of compound shapes and drew large shapes outside in the playground before working out the length of the perimeter.

Father Simon has asked us to help some of the members of the Parish to walk/run the number of miles it would be to Bethlehem.  Everyone who was here has managed to walk two miles each so far this week.  45 miles so far!

We have started creating personal projects about different aspects of life in Japan.  We are working with the person next to us and we will create a power point presentation to share our projects with the rest of the class.

We are also working in small collaborative groups with the folk sitting close to us to create and design a 10 star********** hotel for kids.  we are having so much fun imagining all the fun and wonderful things we can include.

Have a lovely weekend!

Primary 6a weekly update

Lead learners: Our lead learners Luke C and Anneli have worked to create three class targets for us to focus on this week. They have also awarded points to children they have noticed being ready, respectful and safe.

Maths: This week we have been working on equivalent fractions and have successfully been able to multiply the numerator and denominator to create a new fraction. We have also been learning how to simplify fractions too.

Literacy: We have been learning about compound nouns and we were able to use them in our writing. We have been writing about peace and what this means to us using our senses. We enjoyed free writing Friday and had fun writing in the style of our choice.

HWB: With Mrs McLaughlin we have been continuing with our emotions works and have started to create an A to Z of strategies for overcoming different emotions.

Art: We designed medals and created poppy wreaths to remember those who fought in the war.

IDL: We have been enjoying the start of our new topic which is Space! We had fun making mnemonics to help us remember the order of the planets.

Rights of the child: The article of the week is anti- bullying. We have been learning about different types of bullying and what to do if we were to experience or witness it.

P6B Update

Another GREAT week of learning in P6B!

Numeracy

This week we began looking at Fractions. We started looking at equivalent fractions; exploring fractions which were the same but with different numbers. We have made good connections from what we learned whilst doing decimal fractions.

Literacy

For literacy this week we learned about Remembrance Day, completing some remembrance day activities. We finished writing our scary stories and the children had the opportunity to share their writing with the class in our ‘authors chair’.  They were very creative… and well… scary!

Lucy Enjoyed word boost this week, building our vocabulary in fun and engaging ways!  We all loved finding different opportunities to use the word boost words throughout the week.

John and Emily enjoyed continuing their creative work for Free Writing Friday! Our FWF jotters are filling up fast with lots of brilliant ideas!

IDL

The children and I have had a blast researching our new topic, space.

Sneha said “I enjoyed researching about space and really liked doing art this week too”. Charlotte also exclaimed her enjoyment doing the space research. The class are designing our new IDL display wall and have discussed what they know already and what they would like to learn about space in P6.

R.E.

For R.E we have been learning about all souls. This week we focused on remembrance day and made our own poppies and designed medals for all service people. The class have done a great job with these – they look great. They have been wearing their poppies in class and very proudly when they took part in the two minute silence.

HWB

We have been discussing bullying this week. The children have discussed this with great maturity and came up with lots of good ideas and comments on how to be kind and what to do if they know of any instances of bullying (in any form). We have been celebrating difference, promoting the inclusion of all, and working on the wellbeing indicators. Well done Primary 6!

A message from Mr. Pentland

This week, it was great to see the children praise each other with our new ‘class stars’ recognition board. This gives the children the opportunity to recognise their peers for their achievements throughout the day! The comments have been so kind and lovely to hear – I’m sure the children would agree.

I would just like to say well done to P6B for remembering the timetable changes this week and keeping me right. I am super impressed with everyone. I would also like to take this opportunity to say a huge well done and thank you to all the children in P6B and their families. We had a great term 1 and an amazing start to term 2! The children have positively responded to the new safety measures needed in school due to the current global situation and I would like to thank you all for your patience and understanding. I hope you all have a great weekend and a happy Diwali! Take care, stay safe and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday! 🙂

Primary P5B – WB 09.11.20

Dear readers,

We hope you are all either very well or getting better!

This week started with our visit to the woodlands to enjoy some minutes of free play with our friends! We absolutely loved exploring, picking up falling leaves, playing and having a bit of fun together in such a beautiful space!😃😃😃

We felt energized when we went back to have our lunch after that fun time!

We have done a lot in Literacy having started with our new spelling words, their meaning and how to use them in context. We have also done another week of reading comprehension, this time on Chapter 8 of the Secret Garden and every week we seem to understand it better and better. To make our writing more interesting, we have learned about Personification and how to write amazing sentences using it. We have also learned how to identify personification in sentences.

In maths, this week has been dedicated to master subtraction with up to 6 digits and also on how to check that it is correct at the end.

RE was about the beautiful biblical story of the Genesis and we have had the opportunity to draw and write what happened day by day, until God rested on the 7th day.

All the boys and girls loved our new topic of the Wars of Independence and we have only just started to learn about it!

Because we wanted to surprise Mrs McKissack on her birthday and we could not sing to her, we have all learned how to do it with sign language and we all did it at the same time throughout the school through Teams. We think she liked it a lot!🥳

Of course we would not finish off the week without our spelling assessment and Big Maths, beat that,  and also by awarding the Hot Chocolate prize and send the Three notes home to let parents and carers know how amazing a week we have had!🥇Congratulations to Alex, Susanna, Sophie and Amelia! Well done and keep up with your kindness, care and participation!👍👍👍👍🥇🥇🥇🥇

Have a wonderful weekend and stay safe!😘😘

Love from Primary 5B and Mrs Valente
