We have had a fantastic week in P2A this week where we have created some brilliant pieces of work.
Anshika created a wonderful piece of work where she drew lots of lovely pictures of what makes her special.
Ignacy wrote a super piece about keeping safe on Bonfire Night.
Logan and Mason have been working super hard on subtraction.
Julia and Mia really enjoyed Free Writing Friday where they created some wonderful stories.

Hello special SJO Families! I hope you are all well. Here are our learning highlights from this week:
Layla loved making her firework in a bottle! As you know, yesterday was Bonfire Night and because some events may have been cancelled or you may not of been able to attend, we thought we would make our very own! Thank you for sending in a bottle for this task. The children had great fun measuring the oil and using a pipette to extract food colouring and emptying it all into their bottle using a funnel. The firework display only lasted a couple of minutes but we all enjoyed it none the less.
Ishani M liked learning about All Saints Day. Thank you to all the parents who completed the optional All Saints homework tasks. We loved looking at them on Seesaw and still have a few to look at on Monday.
Maeve reports that she liked when we peered closely at things in the woodlands. ‘Peered’ was one of the 5 words we learned about this week during our Word Boost sessions. Each week I will post a ‘Parent Postcard’ on Seesaw (usually end of week) that will show you the vocabulary we have been focusing on that week in school during Word Boost. The hope is that your child will start to understand and use this vocabulary orally and perhaps then also use it in their writing.
Markuss enjoyed making a yacht out of yarn during our ‘y’ learning this week. The children were given one long piece of yarn and they had to use problem solving to work out how to create a yacht.
Mrs Devlin’s Highlight – My highlight was when the children were working together to create Bonfire Night safety posters. Their teamwork abilities have shown how much they have matured since P1. I was so proud of them.

This week we were in the Woodlands and we were making nests using sticks and leaves. We had to fit in the nest!
We have been learning the sound ‘n’. We can write the letter, we can say words with the sound and we can say where the sound is made in our mouths.
In maths we have been learning to draw one more and then count to get the total. We had to count the letters in our name and then count squares of coloured paper to make a rocket.
In the purple tray we had to make a fireworks display using the glass beads, pompoms and the wooden shapes.
We made Bonfire Safety poster. We had to write one rule and then draw a picture.
Some of the rules we learned were:
Aiden – Don’t throw fireworks.
Zosia – Keep pets indoors.
Ollie – Keep fireworks in a closed box.
Ella – Stay back from fire.
Minny – Stand back from the fireworks.
Julia – Put on gloves when you are using sparklers.

There has been so much learning in Primary 4B again this week. We learned more about telling the time. We also were able to show that we were more confident adding and subtracting in htu using carrying. We have been continuing to develop different spelling strategies and are continuing to practice our joined handwriting. In health and wellbeing we have considered safety around fireworks, creating a list of firework safety rules. We learned that inner peace comes from within and thought about ways we can be peaceful and calm when things are confusing or upsetting.
Highlights of the week ; Carving our wands, drawing our owls and making maps of Diagon Alley as part of our Harry Potter Topic. Some people chose PE as their highlight this week. Next week PE will be on a Thursday afternoon and a Friday morning because PE will begin to move inside and this is to fit in with the spread out lunch break.
Children can now bring in indoor shoes to wear which will be kept in the classroom.

We’ve had a very busy week in P7A.
Some of our highlights have been: finishing our project on the Rainforest and starting our new project on Japan; inventing our own games in the woodlands: orienteering in PE with Mrs Lafferty and writing our simile poems.
Lots of us are very excited about our new project as we have a special interest in some aspects of Japanese life, art, Manga and Anime.
We each wrote simile poems beginning with a positive and a negative emotion. Here are some of them for you to enjoy:

We have had a Hallowe’en fun filled week! Here are our best bits according to your wee pumpkins:
Leah liked listening to the story, ‘Room on the Broom’ . Afterwards, the children worked with a partner to take turns balancing the different characters (different sized cubes) on the broom (a ruler balanced on a glue stick) without them falling off! Some groups had very good problem solving strategies. I was AMAZED! I think we have some future engineers in our midst!
Ishani M loved our Hallowe’en Corners game! We were not able to dance to music indoors just now but we did move like skeletons and zombies. It was spoooooooky cooooooool! Congratulations to DaisyDee and Reyansh who were our winners and received a funky light up spinner as their prize.
Jonah enjoyed handwriting. This was almost the only none Hallowe’en lesson during the week. The children revisited the formation of v and w.
Ishani M recounts how her favourite part of the week was some Hallowe’en PE with Mrs Lafferty outside.
Mrs Devlin’s highlight was witnessing how the children helped and encouraged one another when we made our Hallowe’en lanterns as some found them a little fiddily to make. A few children gave up their Choosing Time unasked to help some finish theirs. So sweet!

Dear Parents,
This week we have been working very hard this week with our maths. We practised using adding and subtraction strategies.
We made our own clocks to tell analogue time
We created haunted houses then used persuasive language to put them up for sale. 
During our Outdoor Learning we saw lots of signs of Autumn changes. 
We built homes for lego people and tried to identify types of trees from feeling their twigs. Some of us created spiral artwork using leaves, stones and sticks. 
We collected sticks to make into our wands for our Harry Potter topic this term.
Most of us posted our homework on our personal learning blogs to share with Mrs Miller.
Next week we are looking forward to finding out more about Harry Potter.

Primary 5 have had another busy week with lots of fun learning experiences.
Maths– We have been learning how to estimate the length of various objects and then accurately measure items using our ruler. Some of our estimates turned out to be the actual measurement!
Grammar- We have been learning about adverbs and how to use them to improve our writing.
Writing – In story writing this week, we wrote letter from Mary Lennox ( a character in our class novel) to her ayah in India, outlining her experiences at her uncle’s mansion. We tried hard to use the correct layout and emotive vocabulary.
Science – We learned about photosynthesis and how plants turn light energy into food. Although it was a difficult concept to understand, we rose to the challenge and found that we have many budding scientists in Primary 5 A!
We are looking forward to starting our new topic and meeting more challenges next week !

It has been another busy week in P1B
The sound of the week this week was ‘i’, We practiced writing and forming ‘i’ correctly and we made igloos using cotton wool. We are now beginning to write words blending the sounds we have learned together. We also enjoy practicing writing a sentence using our knowledge of sounds.
Our story this week was ‘Room on the Broom’ we enjoyed retelling the story and sequencing pictures into the correct order. We drew pictures of all the characters sitting on the broom. In writing we wrote what animals there was room for on our broom.
In Maths we looked at patterns and repeated patterns. We made our own Halloween patterns and made patterns using the coloured blocks and elephants. We also worked on using number lines to find the number before and the number after.
We made pumpkin crafts and a spider hat.
We read the story ‘A Magical Muddle’ and drew what animal the spell would make us turn into and we decorated our own muddle spell biscuit.
We danced to some Halloween songs creating our own spooky dance moves.
We met our P7 Buddies through Teams and we were delighted to receive a Halloween card and little chocolate treat from them.
We made a Halloween pumpkin card to give to our buddy.
This week we have been learning about how to keep safe at Halloween and different rules to follow.
