P4B Weekly Update 27.11.20

What a very busy week!  As we have continued practising our times tables. Most of us have improved our scores and/or moved up levels in Beat That and CLIC over the past few weeks. We are able to apply our maths knowledge to solve word problems and find out the times of buses and trains. Our spelling and grammar continues to improve because we have worked so hard. During Wellbeing Wednesdays we have been looking for ideas to help us think about and self esteem by building routines, sleeping well, finding calm spaces to think, everything is going to be ok, peace comes from within and we should be proud of ourselves.

We have been trying to be respectful this week thinking about ‘treating others as we wish to be treated’. We had two fantastic lead learners (voted for by their peers) they set a great example to everyone and have been positive praising others in the class. However we still need to remind some of the children not play rough games or say unkind things. We want everyone to treat others respectfully and safely.

We have two new lead learners for next week also voted for by their peers. Today most of P4b were able to post their class work onto their personal learning blogs. Those who ran out of time will be given time to post their work on Monday.

Highlights of the week ; Creating our founder portraits, the first potions lesson. Working as a group to create the first paragraph of a story about our founder and using our imagination to see inside the Mirror of Erised. We are outside again for PE and Mrs Lafferty is teaching us outdoor games. During our Religious lessons we have been talking about good choices and bad choices and saying sorry.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. 🙂

Children can now bring in indoor shoes to wear which will be kept in the classroom.

Primary 7B Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

Here’s an update for this week’s learning in P7B:

We’ve had a busy week with SNSA tests in numeracy, ready and writing which we spread out over the week.  Our results are very positive and they give Mr McGurn areas we can focus on before the move to high school. As a reward for our hard work we had a fire up in the woodlands on Thursday so sorry if we came home stinking of smoke.

We were writing a persuasive argument about ‘Computers Are Good For Us’ and were able to come up with many valid arguments on the positive case for using computers.  Next time we will write a balanced argument on whether Zoos are a positive thing or not.

In mathematics, we were learning on how to calculate the perimeter and area of composite shapes.

We had our first class Advent Service since the First Sunday of Advent is this coming Sunday.  It was very nice and gave us some time to reflect and prepare ourselves for the season.

We have continued with our Daily Kilometer and Father Simon has asked us to record how far we are walking.  There is currently a charity virtual walk happening and I am waiting for more details of how our Kms are helping to reach a target. We even had a rainbow on Tuesday.

Now we’ll hear an update from this week’s Lead Learners:

This week we learned about area and perimeter, it was fun and really challenging.  We also did our SNSA tests, they were really fun but they were a little tricky.

Charotte and Aaron

Have a great weekend everyone,

Mr McGurn & Primary 7B

P2B Week Beginning 23.11.20

P2B have had a super week!  We are very excited that Advent is starting on Sunday and the countdown to the birth of Jesus can begin (as well as a certain person coming in a red suit!).

Here are the highlights of our week:

Emily has loved learning about Weddings this week as part of our ‘Festivals and Celebrations’ topic.  She designed a beautiful wedding dress!

Paige enjoyed learning about Global Goals this week.  What a fantastic lesson we had this week introducing Global Goals!  The children looked at a picture of God’s beautiful world and then had a think about problems that existed in the world.  We made a very long list ranging from pollution in the sea to children not having enough food to eat.  We heard the VERY GOOD NEWS that by the time they are 16, in 10 years time, the hope is that these problems will no longer exist.  We heard that all the leaders in the world are working together to sort these problems out BUT they need our help.  We can be super heroes and help too!  We talked about what we can do to help.  Some ideas were to remember to recycle and put rubbish in the bin, send our old clothes to charity shops and to pray for the world.  We watched a video showing schools around the world and we were sad to see some children sitting on the ground with no nice pencils or paper to write with and no smartboard and no colour at all.  It made us grateful what we have.

Szymon liked Fun Friday today were he played with cubes.

Zac enjoyed looking at the Virtual Classroom and especially liked seeing the map that Markuss sent us and clicking on it to visit other parts of the world.  We visited Peru and Canada.

Mrs Devlin’s highlight was definitely the lesson on Global Goals.  We cheered so loud when we heard how by 2030 these goals may be achieved.  I think everyone in Livingston heard us!  It was heartening to see the children so enthusiastic about these important world issues.

Thank you to our two Lead Learners this week, Markuss and Zac.  Their target for us this week was to put our coat and shoes out in the cloakroom quicker but not to run.  We need to remember our school’s ‘Ready, Respectful, Safe’ rules and if we ran then we would not be safe.

P3B Learning

This week James and everyone else had a fantastic time making 3D shapes using spaghetti and marshmallows.  We took pictures of our shapes and are putting them on our seesaw pages.

We started learning about a new story called “The Man who wore all his clothes” and we are all wondering why!  We have written questions and are following the events of the story.   Emma made really good predictions about what might happen next.

Everyone had a super time using the Beebots and the Beebot app to practice coding and learning about directions.

Halli was respectful when we lit a candle and said prayers to remember people who have died.

In PE we played games and had lots of fun!  Jude won the game but everyone had a good time playing together.

Emma won our Hot Chocolate this week for being an excellent listener and working hard all week!

P1B Week Beginning 23rd November

It has been another busy week in P1B.

This week we have been learning the sound ‘e’.  We can recall words that beginning with e and we also looked at words that have the sound e in the middle of their word.  We tried very hard to read words by blending our sounds.  We practised forming the letter e.

We read the story ‘The Old Toy Room’ we sequenced pictures into the correct order to retell the story and we wrote a sentence to describe a toy.  We looked at toys from the past and compared them to present day.  We then looked at how toys move, whether it is by motion of push or pull.

We investigated money coins, we matched, sorted and ordered them by value.  We also looked at number bonds for 7 and 8 and made the number in different ways.  We learned the facts to 8 by giving a lady bird her spots.

We have added a cafe and shop to the play area with money coins for the children to explore buying items.

The children have enjoyed the block play.  They worked collaboratively with their peers to design and create buildings.

Nicolas ‘I loved playing with the blocks’

Aaeryn-Leigh ‘I liked playing in the shop with Georgia’

Kacper ‘I liked playing with the Lego’

Haadiya ‘I love learning all the sounds’

Ksawery ‘I like playing tig outside’

We hope you all have a lovely weekend and look forward to all the exciting learning we have planned for next week.

Primary 5A Weekly Update 27th November 2020

This week in Primary 5A we have been really busy learning with Mrs Lea, Mrs Ogunro and Mrs Egan.

One thing we have enjoyed learning this week:

Zahra S – learning about and designing tartan

Zara R – learning about money in maths

Ruqayyah – learning about St Andrew in RME

Something new we learned this week:

Tanvi – we learned about the Great Wave and wrote about this using a descriptive bubble

Jaagruti – we learned to multiply larger numbers

Lewis – we learned some new facts about St Andrew

Something which challenged us this week:

JJ – we did some work on doubling which was tricky

Katie – some of the times tables we worked with were tricky

Lily – we did some research on King Alexander III

Our lead learners were Junaid and Millan.  This week they noticed that their class had been working well on multiplication and writing.  They noticed that “the class are good at showing that we are ready to learn, that we have been respectful to all of the teachers that have helped us this week and that we have been safe in the playground.”

P1B Virtual Classroom Week Beginning 23rd November

Click on the picture to have a look at our Virtual Classroom.  Here you will see the sounds, frequency words and numbers we are working on it class.  It is very important that we practise these for 5-10 minutes every day.

  1. Can you identify our learned sounds m, c, s, p, a, t, i, k, n, o and write the letters?  Can you make any CVC words using these letters?  e.g. c-a-t, p-i-t  How many can you make?
  2. Make flashcards for our learned high frequency words.  Can you read these and try to write them by yourself?
  3. Can you write the numbers 0-10 using the correct formation and in the right order?
