P2B Week Beginning 30.11.20

P2B have had another jam packed week of learning.  Here are our best bits:

Jonah enjoyed our celebration of St Andrew’s Day this week.  The children took home the art activity they created on Monday which included a 3D kilt (national dress), 3D sheep (animal found in the hills and highlands) , 3D Saltire (Scottish flag) and thistle (national flower).   We listened to traditional Scottish music while we create our pieces.

Amelia liked making boats.  We listened to the Bible story about how St Andrew was a fisherman and  Jesus called him to be “fishers of men”.  We built a boat from tinfoil and our challenge was to make it  strong enough to hold the weight of 10 lego pieces.  Look out for the upcoming photo of your child trying to float their boat on Seesaw.  We then went on to further explore floating and sinking, building upon our learning in P1.  We predicted if certain items would sink or float and then compared our prediction with the actual results.

Markuss loved making our class ‘Acts of Kindness Advent Calendar’ (see photo on Seesaw to see your child’s contribution).  Each day the class will try and carry out theses acts of kindness to make the world a better place during this season of Advent.

Ishani S said that her favourite part of this week was the blessing of the crib by Fr Simon.  On Friday, through Teams, the children attended a special service where Fr Simon unveiled the crib and blessed it.

Mrs Devlin’s highlight was when we explored our ‘ Children’s Right to Play’ this week.  On Tuesday, in the woodlands, the children broke into small groups and came up with a new game to teach another group.  The ideas were quite creative!  Some even brought in elements of maths!  There was a lot of super teamwork going on where listening to others was evident.  I was very proud of how everyone worked together.

Thank you to our two Lead Learners this week, Ishani S and Mariam.  Their target for us this week was for everyone to tidy up quicker during tidy up time.  Thank you Lead Learners for the important work you do and for identifying ways that we can improve.

Primary 5B – WB 30.11.20

Dear readers,

We hope you have had a good week.

This has been a very different week from our normal ones for various reasons but a very interesting and good one as well!

We have had three ICT lessons. In our first one, about glow tools, we have learned how to use Sway and Power Point and also that our work is saved automatically. In our second lesson, we have learned about Internet safety and how to keep us and others safe online. Our third lesson was also about how to prepare presentations on Sway and on how to share the work we do with people we trust, including Mrs Valente.

We had a NSPCC assembly online which told us all about sharing our worries and how we should make sure to tell our trusted adult about things that are not quite right. After our Assembly, we have created our class’ Worry Tray, where we can put our worries whenever we need for Mrs Valente to help however she can.

Because we have been the class with the most points for being Ready, Respectful and Safe during the whole fortnight, we have been the school winners and have had the chance to help Father Simon by setting the school’s Nativity and also with the Blessing of the Crib. It was beautiful and the whole school watched us through Teams! Mrs Valente was so proud!

We have finally finished painting our wooden swords for the Topic display and they have been fitted on the wall. They look amazing! We will try to attach a picture but can’t be sure if it will work.

We also did our Spelling activities with our new spelling words and a wordsearch at the end of the week to make sure we knew them really well!

Our reading comprehension was about chapter 10 of The Secret Garden and most people are getting better and better at answering with full sentences and truly understand what they read!

In Maths we did our Party planners where we had to plan a party for six children with a budget of £30. We had to have enough food, we had to entertain our guests, and we had to spend as much money as we could but without going over the budget, which can be very tricky. 😊

Multiplication practice continues and knowing the timetables is a must for all, so we will try to know them all by heart next week, since today we didn’t have time for our Mini tables contest because of how busy we have been!🤣

Last but not least, congratulations to our Hot Chocolate at home,  Zak, and to our winners of the Weekly note home, Ethan, Amelia and Susanna! They have all been stars and we are all very proud of them! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🥇🥇🥇🥇🥳🥳🥳🥳

We hope you have a great weekend and week ahead!

Love from Primary 5B and Mrs Valente

This week in P1B

What a busy week we have had in P1. We have started preparations for our Christmas assembly and we’re all very excited to get our parts. We have been learning to sign Christmas songs and have really impressed our teachers at how well we have managed to do them.

In maths we have been learning more about money. We started to think about making amounts and used coins to buy different things from the toy shop. We spoke about the importance of making sure we had enough money to buy something.

This week we have been consolidating our learning of sounds. We have been ensuring we are forming them correctly and have been using our sounds to blend CVC words. We have also been practising to read and write our  high frequency words. Please remember to access our Virtual Classroom to practise learned sounds and high frequency words.

We have enjoyed doing some Christmas art this week to make a lovely window display, which can be seen from the playground.

We were very lucky to have Miss Gibson in our class for two sessions on coding. We used the Beebots to learn directional language and used it to program the Beebot to get from one place to another. We also used this knowledge to the use the Beebot app on the IPads. If you have access to a tablet the Beebot app is free and well worth a download.

This week during play we have had lots of fun.

kacper – I liked the Lego.

Scott – I liked playing with the snow.

Aaeryn-Leigh – I liked the shop and cafe.

Ella – I really liked the Safari animals.

Addison – I liked colouring in Christmas cards.

Alex – I liked looking through the Smyths Catalogue.

Primary 1A Learning Highlights 4th December 2020

This week we have a new shop and there are baskets in there.  There is toy food like beans, chicken, soup, waffles, curry and little cakes.  We have to use money to buy the food.

We have been drawing Socks for Santa to put up for our window display.  We read the book Socks for Santa before we did this art activity.  We also drew round our hands and coloured them in green so we could make an Advent Wreath.

Sparkle our class elf came on Tuesday she has been doing different things in the classroom.  One day she brought us a book, then she was hanging off the Mighty Writer Board by a candy cane, on Thursday she was playing snap with Ogilvie Bear (she tidied up!) and today she is reading Wilma a book.

We have an advent calendar and each day we choose someone to put up the star.  We also have a book Advent Calendar so we will have lots of books for ERIC time.

Miss Gibson came in to help us learn about using the green screen. We put a photo as the background and then we had to say what toys we could see. It was great fun!

Yesterday we went out in the snow and we caught snowflakes on our tongues.  We also got to play in the snow but it was a bit wet and it was starting to melt.  We still had great fun making lots of footprints.

Today we were watching Fr Simon Blessing the Crib.  We saw the statues from the Nativity.  We are acting out the Nativity Story for our Christmas Assembly.

Some of personal highlights this week are:

Rebekah – I liked the shop.

Ben – I liked learning our words.

Minny – I liked playing in the shop.

Ella – I liked playing in creative zone.

Ruari – I liked playing with the toys.

Zosia – I liked playing in the snow.

P4B Weekly Update

This week we continued to make progress in our maths learning new multiplication strategies and we have continued practising our times tables. We had two fantastic lead learners and they set a great example to everyone and have been encouraging everyone to try their best others in the class. We earned lots of points because all the adults could see how ready, respectful and safe we were.

This week we had an NSPCC video which reminds us to “Speak out” say how we feel. We also had a great afternoon on Tuesday learning more about tools on Glow and we practised making powerpoints which was a lot of fun.

Highlights of the week ; Drawing our dragons, performing the helious potion, all of the house groups were successful in blowing up their balloons by mixing the two magical ingredients. We learned that writing detailed instructions is important. We wrote our own potions and created magic spells to make them work. This week, because of the weather, we have worked in the class with Mrs Lafferty and we learned more about staying healthy. Because this was the first week of advent we made our class advent calendar. Everyone had to write down three compliments about someone in the class and put it into the advent train. Mrs Miller reads a different one everyday. It is really nice to hear compliments about each other.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. 🙂

With the wetter weather could children bring in indoor shoes to wear? These indoor shoes will be kept in the classroom. Thank you.

Weekly Update Primary 6a

An excellent week of learning in Primary 6!

Lead learners: Jais and Jagoda were our lead learners this week and have been great role models for their class. Together they have set 3 targets for everyone to work on and have also awarded points to children they have noticed being ready, respectful and safe.

Literacy: This week we have been learning about verb tenses, past present and future and also looking at active and passive verbs.

Maths: We have been working on multiples and factors and improving our times table knowledge. We also continued to work on fractions, decimals and percentages. We are looking forward to learning about improper fractions next week.

R.E: Our focus this week has been on Advent. We have been learning about the lead up to Christmas and created our own Advent wreath showing what each coloured candle represents. We enjoyed watching Father Simon blessing the crib on Teams.

HWB: We took part in an internet safety assembly. Following this, we completed scenario cards to discuss how we could keep ourselves and others safe online. We also watched an assembly from the NSPCC and took part in the activities that reminded us of our rights.

Writing: We have been learning about expository writing. We used the 5 day lockdown break as our main theme and produced excellent reasons to explain why this might be a good idea but also why it might cause problems in the long run.

Art: We created some colourful Space themed pictures using chalk pastels.

Digital learning: We learned how to use Kahoot as a whole class and had lots of fun taking part in educational quizzes. Some of us have even been trying this at home too.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Roy
