P3B Our Week in School

Now that we have settled back into school, we are working really hard on our listening skills and showing that we are making the most of our learning time.

Eoghan is really enjoying our cursive handwriting and feels his writing is improving every week!  We are now learning the join from the letter ‘o’ and can practice writing our ‘oa’ and ‘ow’ sounds.

Olivia liked our RE this week.  We heard the story of Genesis and learned about God’s creations.  We drew pictures of our own choice of God’s creation for our display.  Aurora enjoyed making sheep using cheerios to make a model of the Lost Sheep.

Jude has really liked learning to count in fours.  This is the start of us learning the four times tables and we are now using arrays to show what the four times tables looks like.

For our wellbeing Wednesday we met Edison who is a problem solver.  We talked about different ways to solve problems and have set up an advice centre in our classroom.  Niko really likes our wellbeing Wednesdays and is learning lots of new strategies.

This week we also began our Recognition Stars Window.  In order to get our name on it we need to show we are following the school rules of Ready, Respectful and Safe.  If we are ‘over and above’ and spotted by an adult then we get our name written on the window for everyone to see.  We have all tried really hard this week to get our name on the window and are going to try even harder next week!

We can’t wait to share more news with you next Friday!

Bye!

Primary 1A Weekly Update 26th February 2021

We are happy to be back together in school.  We learned the letter ‘r’ this week and we have shown that we can read and spell words with ‘r’.  We had great handwriting!  We have been doing lots of revision of our sounds to see what we remember.  The staff were very impressed with how many we could say. We were reading The Fairytale Hairdresser and Snow White.

We have been thinking about how we can give to others during Lent.  We thought of lots of things we can do to be kind to each other.  This week we have been trying hard to share toys in the classroom.

In maths we have been learning about ordinal numbers.  We had to say what items were 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc.  We also practised our adding and take away sums.

It is Fairtrade Fortnight so we have been learning what Fairtrade is and how to find Fairtrade Products.  We have to look for the logo.  We learned some songs about Fairtrade. We designed our own Fairtrade t-shirts.

Here are some of our personal learning highlights:

Nathan – I liked being back with my whole class.

Eva – I liked seeing my friends back.

Kyle – I liked playing with all my friends.

Joe – I liked making a pet star.

Pola – I liked playing with my whole class.

Ruari – I liked playing with my friends.

It has been lovely to be back in school with all the children again.  They have settled back in so well but were very tired today!  Have a lovely weekend!

Afternoon Tasks

Good afternoon Primary 7, hopefully you have been able to access your Literacy and Numeracy work.  Here’s hoping Teams will work this afternoon for us, but I will post your tasks on the blog as well.

Activity 1:

Begin by completed the first 2 columns of the KWL grid.  If you have time this afternoon (after the other activties) you can spend some time researching one of your “I would like to know” questions.

We are going to be listening to the audio book “The Machine Gunners” by Robert Westall. Set during World War Two, The Machine Gunners is the story of young Chas McGill and his friends living in the fictional town of Garmouth in the north east of England.

Today, listen to episode 1 of The Machine Gunners.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/english-ks2-the-machine-gunners-episode-1-the-hunt-for-war-souvenirs/zrs9bdm

While you are listening you might want to note down any words that you are unfamiliar with. Don’t forget, your boost words are from this episode so listen out for them too!   After you have finished listening, complete the character sheet for Chas, Cem and Audrey (we may add to this as we are introduced to new characters).  You can include known facts such as physical appearance, age, gender, location and occupation, as well as subjective ideas such as likes/dislikes, friends/enemies, attitudes, motivations, secrets and dreams.  Don’t worry if you can’t include much today, as we listen to more we will add to it.

Activity 2:

We are going to revise our knowledge of Spanish; numbers to 20, days of the week, the seasons and the months of the year.

Spanish

The PowerPoint will direct you through each area of revision with links to videos.  Your tasks is to voice record or video yourself saying: numbers to 20, days of the week, the seasons and the months (in Spanish).

Again, please upload your work to your Personal Learning blog.

Spanish and R.E.

The last assignments today are Spanish and R.E
Take some time to read through the Spanish Power-point and watch the videos in the link.
Then complete the activities for Spanish days and months.
You can copy these out if you aren’t able to print.
Our theme for R.E is discernment, talents and generosity.
One of our key parables is the story of talents (Matthew 25: 14-30)
I have attached a power point for you to read and recall the story.
Once you have read this you can draw and write a story board showing the beginning, middle and end of the story.
Remember to hand your work in when you finish it.
