Primary 1A Learning Highlights 24th September 2021

This week we have been learning about number 6. We can write it and we can make it with lolly sticks. Ask us what we do when we show 5 with the lolly sticks.

We learned about ‘k’ this week and we were writing a sentence using our common words.  We had to have a full stop.  On Friday we got to write ‘k’ with ketchup, it was messy but fun!

We learned about our sense of hearing.  We made shakers and did a quiz about animal sounds.

Some of our personal highlights are:

Jack – I liked doing the animal sounds quiz.

Diana – I enjoyed learning about hearing.

Zion – I liked learning about the animal sounds.

Shay – I liked working with the marble run.

Vivien – I liked working at PE.

Linda – I enjoyed colouring in.

Highlights from P2B – Week beginning 20th September 2021

Hello SJO Families,

Just a short week this week but P2B have been very busy. Here are some of the children’s highlights:

Addison loved playing Bingo with our common words, even though she did not win a prize. She is hoping to win next time!

Haadiya enjoyed learning about Tally Marks and asking all of her friends if they liked different foods and recording the answers.

Vinayakarthik liked learning about Climate Change because he said he did not know much about it before.

Anthony also enjoyed Bingo with our common words – it was super fun and he won!

Scott said his favourite activity was still life drawing for Art. We had a selection of fruit on the table and we had to draw what we could see – they turned out super!

Ksawery enjoyed free writing because he can write about whatever he wants.

Ismaeel’s highlight was PE because he was playing with the balls and it was really fun.

My highlight was the Tally Mark task to gather information about who liked the different foods. It was fun to be moving about and asking everyone and then the children asking me too. We were finding out if people liked different foods because this week is Harvest time in the UK and so we  were learning about where some foods come from ad we prayed to Thank the Farmers too.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Lawrence

P7A’s Learning Week

Dear parents,

This week our class has been busy doing tests in Literacy and Maths, in my personal opinion they were a good level for our class.

In RE, we have learned about prayer and action and decided to act by having a dress down day on Friday, basically everybody could wear anything they wanted, and they could also bring £1 for charity. We have raised a lot of money for Mary’s Meals meaning we have made enough to feed more than our target of 10 people for a year. We will update you when the office completes the final count.

Here we were learning all about COP26 which taught us all about global warming and what we can do to save the environment.

Every 2 weeks we have a teacher come in and teach us something from STEM 1 +2. This week, and next, we have Mr. Pentland who taught us about engineering and we learnt a lot of things which we did not know, for example did you know that The Fourth Rail Bridge was not stable and 73 people lost their lives to it.

Primary 6B Learning Highlights

Some learning highlights from P6B this week!

Rights of the child: This week we learned about article 12 and 13, which focused on pupil voice and the children enjoyed discussing different ways their voices and opinions can be heard in our school.

P2A Week Beginning 13th September 2021

Hello special SJO families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Blue Table:

Ollie loved making tie dye socks as part of our learning about when our grandparents were young.  This week we explored fashion from the 1960s and 1970s.

Izaan liked using the ‘Chatterpix’ app today to take a selfie and record himself reading his Free Writing Friday story.  Our challenge today was to include the Word Boost word ‘rescue’ in our story.  We had a whole host of plots ranging from a cow that needed rescued, as an evil fairy threw it in a river, to Izann’s story that involved a cat wearing classes that got stuck up a tree!  Well done P2A authors!

Lucas enjoyed learning about the fashion when his grandparents were young.  There was lots of giggling in P2A as the children saw images of young people wearing flares, long collared shirts, bright, bold patterns and headbands.

Ella loved it when she won a prize for the person who had stuck their work in the straightest!

Rebekah enjoyed Spanish this week where we linked it with our learning about the shapes, ‘pentagon, hexagon and octagon’.  The children completed a listening activity where they had to colour a certain number of shapes – all instructions in Spanish!

My highlight was today when we watched the famous duo ‘Torvill and Dean’ ice-skating.  This followed a story we heard about a shy rabbit who wasn’t too sure if she could ice skate.  We watched a 1978 performance of theirs (in keeping with our 1970s thematic learning) and proceeded to imagine we were ice skaters and “skated” around the room very gracefully like Torvill and Dean!

I hope you all enjoy the long weekend.  See you on Wednesday!

Primary 7B This Week

Welcome to P7B!

A great week of learning P7B this week! During our reflection we told Mr Pentland our highlights:

Hesham and Szymon loved numeracy this week, looking at number and place value! We explored different ways of thinking when it comes to subtraction, doing our calculations from left to right! We did great! We have also been doing great work on estimating and rounding and looking at inverse operations to estimate and check solutions.

Vivaan and Sara loved science with Mrs Miller, learning all about Micro Organisms! We started a germ experiment with bread and we are excited to keep an eye on this next week and fill in our record sheet!

Rory and Vihaan enjoyed learning about Scotland this week! We learned some fun facts about Scotland and drew our own fantastic maps (we did not include all 790 islands – although we were keen to try!). We will be looking at Scotland for our topic and the influence of the past on the present and future! We were also excited to start our novel ‘The Desperate Journey’ – we are looking forward to reading on with this.

We were lucky to have Father Simon visit our class this week during RE. We had great conversations with him! He was very impressed with our job advertisements for Alter Servers; we had to read fact files and highlight important information to create informative, persuasive advertisements! Well done P7B!

Lucas and Kuba enjoyed learning more about the Global Goals this week, especially as we count down to COP26 and build our interactive classroom displays.

Alex and Lewis enjoyed continuing work on narrative during literacy, reviewing the structure and language features and applying it to our own writing. Our classroom went into ‘red alert’ (not to worry, it was just a drill) and the children came up with great narratives to what this could have been! We are looking forward to building on this next week.

We continued our amazing metacognition work this week – thinking about our thinking. We looked at our ‘HOTs’ and created amazing thinking hats with questions to support our learning across the curriculum!

We are excited to start our new daily themes next week:

  • Motivation Monday
  • Teamwork Tuesday
  • Wellbeing Wednesday
  • Technology Thursday
  • Friday For Future

Thank you all for another great week! I hope you all have an amazing long weekend and get some rest! I can’t wait to see you all on Wednesday (Wellbeing Wednesday)!

Highlights from P2b – week beginning 13th September 2021

Hello,

P2b have had a very exciting week – we have started our new topic – When our Grandparents Were Young. We have been focusing this week on 70s fashion and made our own tie dye socks!

Addison, Haadiya, Vinayakarthik and Ksawery all said that making tie dye socks was their favourite activity this week. They enjoyed seeing pictures of the fashion from the 70s and also designing their own outfits on the iPads.

Anthony enjoyed our Spanish listening task – he had to listen for the Spanish number that Miss Lawrence shouted out and the Spanish colour, then quickly find the correct coloured pencil and colour in the correct number of shapes. It was really fun.

Scott liked learning about the Bible and colouring in a picture because he just loves colouring.

Ismaeel’s favourite activity was the hundred square colouring in, he had to listen for the number then colour it in, then find the number before and colouring that in too.

My favourite activity this week  is PE, the children were practicing different skills with balls, rackets and bean bags – They were really impressive!

Have a lovely long weekend and I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday 🙂
