P2B Week Beginning 6th December 2021

P2B have had a super week! We had a very exciting day today as we recorded our nativity! All of the children were fantastic and I can’t wait to see the show and share it with the children and families.

We have been busy doing lots of winter craft this week – making snow globes and snowflakes to decorate our classroom, which looks fabulous!

Highlights from the green table:

Flynn – I liked doing the snowflakes because I did lots of cutting and then put glitter on them.

Georgia – I liked doing the maths with the play dough because you get to make balls and squash them and to count them.

Vinayakarthik – I liked drawing the picture for the nativity for Mary’s house.

Alex – I liked making the snow globes because I had never seen one before and it was fun to do.

I hope you have a fabulous weekend and very well done to all of the children again for their nativity performance!

In numeracy, wE are focusing on division, so we started off the week with maths. Then on Tuesday we planned some writing, and then we played games with our music teacher, Mrs Morrison.

On Wednesday, we wrote stories and continued working on maths, shortly after, P7 played Christmas corners and dodgeball for P.E.

Then, on Thursday, we studied science, learning about forces, gravity and friction.  In the afternoon we watched a movie corresponding to our class novel, Millions.

Friday morning we held an Advent Service in the Upper Area sharing it with P7b through Teams. We lit the third advent candle, which is Pink for joy.

Teacher Highlights:

I have been very impressed with how well the class have been able to contribute the arguments for, and arguments against an issue, and, apply them in their writing.  We have all been discussing that if we cannot say it, we cannot write it.  The learning is in the talking.  I have also enjoyed giving one to one feedback to the pupils on their writing and seeing the improvements and corrections they are then able to make on the same day.

Primary 7a Update

Dear Parents,

We had a busy week this week with P7a holding a St. Andrew’s Day Assembly for the school.

Over Teams we told the story of the life of St. Andrew and how it was he became Patron Saint of Scotland.

We were also able to share some of Scotland’s culture through songs and poems and Mrs McKissack provided

the whole school with a taste of Scotland with a treat of Irn-Bru and Shortbread.

We once again used Sumdog for our maths homework and 19 of us managed to complete ALL 1000 sums which

was enough to take us, comfortably, to first place and this time no one came in at the last moment to beat us.

It also means Mr McGurn owes us a reward for our hard work!

And on Friday we got to go to the hall with our P1 buddies for the blessing of the crib, it was lovely to hear them singing!

P2B Week Beginning 29th November 2021

This week in P2B we started our new topic – Local Jobs and Places to Work. We discussed jobs that people in our families have and went for a walk around the local area to see what businesses are near by and the jobs that people do in each place. The children were all really excited to be out on a walk and some were pointing out their house nearby!

We had fun making some thistles and Scotland flags for St Andrew’s day and enjoyed our treat of tasting irn bru and shortbread, whilst watching some ceilidh dancing, when we returned from our walk.

Highlights from the blue table:

Rowan – “going for a walk to see what I want to be when I am older for my job.”

Daniel – “the walk because we got to see all of the places for the different jobs.”

Nicolas – “learning about ‘Uncle Ed’ for verbs to put the ed at the end of words.”

Sean – “trying the irn bru and the shortbread for St Andrew’s day – I loved them!”

Olek – “making a snowman for the window because it was fun to colour and stick.”

Moeez – “trying the irn bru and shortbread because it was so tasty and the treats are Scottish.”

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Lawrence

P2A Week Beginning 29th November

Hello P2A families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Red Table:

Olivier enjoyed the lesson about the Angel Gabriel visiting Mary with the message that she would have a son, Jesus, the son of God.

David S loved our St Andrew’s Day celebrations, especially drinking Irn Bru and eating shortbread.  Thank you Mrs McKissack and Mrs McLaughlin for this lovely treat!

Julia said the best part of the week was today, Crazy Hair Day!  We noticed that Julia’s hair was symmetrical with all her lovely, bright hair bobbles.  We had been learning about symmetry with Mrs Brand this week!

Joe also loved eating shortbread.

David K liked making paper trees today for our window display.  The children completed instructional drawings for the trees and robins.  Be sure to have a look at our lovely Christmas themed window display when you are next in the playground.

Chiji liked listening to the story ‘My Big Shouting Day’ when the class explored the feeling of anger and how to self-regulate to calm their body down.  Chiji said he liked the strategy of getting a hug to help him feel better.

Zosia enjoyed the maths lessons this week where the children were learning to read and write number words up to 100.

My highlight has been watching the children become more independent in the Nativity rehearsals.  Most know their stage directions without prompt and the singing is beautiful!  We are very excited to have our dress rehearsal on Tuesday and filming will take place on Friday.
