P6A Weekly Update 13th May 2022

This week we have been exploring RRSA Article 6 (life, survival and development): Every child has the right to life. Governments must do all they can to ensure that children survive and  develop totheir full potential. This has been very interesting for the children to reflect on how much they have changed, grown and developed since they started school in Primary 1. As they are preparing to become buddies they have been thinking about things they couldn’t do then and now take for granted. Next week they will begin making the videos for their House Captain Speeches. Rehearsals in class have been very good.

We have been investigating coordinates. Plotting points on a map and a grid.

We have had a great week planting, weeding and clearing up some areas around the school grounds. All the children in P6A have worked cooperatively, negotiating tasks and improving their outdoor environment. Hopefully the weather will be good next week.

Primary 1A Learning Highlights 13th May 2022

This week we have been reading the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We made a basket for Granny and we wrote a list of all the things we put in. We also made repeating patterns using pictures from the book and we did some subtraction calculations. To make Granny feel better we made some get well soon cards and posted them in the dragon’s post box. Granny loved them and sent us the ingredients to make a jam sandwich. We had to tell Miss Stebbing the instructions to make the sandwich and we learned we had to be very clear. She put the whole loaf of bread on the plate and then put the jar of jam in the middle of the two pieces of bread. It was very funny!

In Writing, we have been learning to describe the different characters from Little Red Riding Hood. For talking sentences we described Red Riding Hood using the Describing Bubble. Then we wrote our own sentences about the Big Bad Wolf.

We learned about the features of a castle this week and we drew our own castle and labelled all the different features. We also built a castle in our classroom so the Friendly Dragon can have its castle back in Fairyland. The Friendly Dragon left us a baby dragon that we have named Spike. We love looking after Spike and making it things in Creative Zone.

In Health and Wellbeing we learned about things that are safe or unsafe to eat and we talked about medicines. We were very good at discussing the different substances and where they should be stored in our houses.

Some of our personal highlights from this week are:

Diana  – I enjoyed everything.

Chimamanda – I enjoyed making the big castle for the Friendly Dragon.

Vivien – I enjoyed playing with everything.

Rory – I like doing everything.

Jiade – I liked playing with the tablet.

Zion – I loved doing every single thing this week for the dragon.

Caleb – I enjoyed playing in the castle.

Riley – I liked playing with the Lego.

Ollie – I enjoyed playing What’s the Time Mr Wolf.

P2A Week Beginning 2nd May

Hello P2A families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Green and Red Table:

Kayla loved learning the months of the year in Spanish.  We discovered that all the months, apart from January, have the same spelling at the start as the English spelling.  How interesting!  The children enjoyed singing along and having to sit down and stand up when their birth month came around.  Here is the link to the song if your child would like to practise them at home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKznbHvPFwc

Nathan loved the challenge of building a bridge for the Three Billy Goats to cross.  The challenge was that it had to hold the weight of 3 stones (that represented the goats) for 5 seconds.  Nathan’s team was successful!  Well done guys!

Emily said the highlight of her week was PE with Mrs Lafferty where they were seeing how far they could throw javelins.

Julia enjoyed our PM writing sessions this week.  We moved on to learning how to write narratives.

Chiji liked our Number Talks.  This week we continued to work in partners to estimate a given number of items in a jar and then use clues to work out the exact number, such as “The number is more than 42 but less than 60”.   We had a 100 square to help us.

David S said his favourite lesson was looking a famous bridges from around the world.  He recognised our very own ‘Forth Rail Bridge’.

Joe loved finding out that he was this fortnight’s Reading Champion!  Congratulations Joe!

John like playing Common Word Bingo, especially as he won!

Babafola said his favourite lesson was on the Zones of Regulation.  We continued to focus on the Green Zone – the zone our body likes to be in and how we can get back to Green.  For more information about these zones, check out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1cnNsTPRaA

My highlight was watching the super teamwork that went on during the bridge challenge activity.  I felt so proud to see everyone working together, listening to one another and helping one another.  Well done P2A!

P7B Update

HAPPY FRI-YAY!

Primary 7B have apparently had the best week… 2 days off – how great! However, I was also informed that the learning has also been great too, I’m glad to say!

Vivaan, Alex, Kuba and Alex loved Algebra this week! I must say that the whole class are putting in an amazing effort in numeracy! They should all be very proud.

The children are enjoying reading our novel, ‘The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas’! We have been doing a great job analysing the text using our reciprocal reading strategies.

To finish off our amazing work on democracy, the children took part in their very own election process! I have been so impressed since we returned to school, the children have showcased their leadership, creativity, critical thinking and communication skills! We had a great group reflection on the process also! Well done Primary 7, you have all worked so hard and today it has really paid off!

Primary 7a Weekly Update & Term 4 Curriculum Overview

Dear Parents,

Our topic has been Democracy and we have been learning about Local, Scottish and U.K. Politics. We have created our own new parties with their own manifestos. We decided to focus on what we would do to improve our own school. Very local democracy in action.

inviting the P6s to our hustings, our 10 brave candidates gave their speeches and we held a vote. A big well done to Lucy and Swag Scotland Party from 7b, who won by a single vote!

Preparation for Confirmation continues and it won’t be long now. Father Simon brought in a Bishop’s Crook and Mitre for the confirmandi to try out as Archbishop Leo will be celebrating the confirmation with our P7s. Here are a few new bishops!

Here is the curriculum overview for Term 4 to share with you what we will be covering up to June.

P3B Learning Highlights – Wk Beg 2.5.22

It has been a bit of a strange week in Primary 3 with the two holidays splitting up our learning. However, on the days that the children have been in school, we are proud to say, they have worked super hard!

Maths – We have been working on rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100.  We have also been practising measuring classroom items using cm’s  and mm’s.  Today we did a bit of maths problem solving with a partner and as you can see from the photos, we all worked very well together to solve the problems.

Literacy – This week we wrote a piece of personal writing about a special day in our life.  The children had to recount the events of the day in the correct order, whilst also including details and feelings.

HWB – We have been learning about the Eatwell Plate and how to eat a balanced diet.  The children worked together to sort different types of food into the correct food groups.  I wonder if they can tell you the names of the different food groups and which ones we should eat most of?

Learning Highlights:

Daniel:  I enjoyed Free Writing Friday.

Ishani M:  I like measuring different things in the classroom using a ruler.

Stefi:  I liked doing the Maths problem solving with my partner.

Matteo:  I enjoyed doing rounding in Maths.

Markuss: I liked writing about a day in my life.

Jonah:  I loved doing javelin throwing in PE.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Primary 1A Learning Highlights 6th May 2022

Even though it has been a short week, we have been very busy. On Tuesday, we had a visit from the Giant. He made a huge mess in our classroom. We were very mad at him because we had to tidy up all the mess. Even the chairs were upside down and the tables were all moved.  He left footprints on the floor and we had to measure using them to find things bigger or smaller. At writing time, we made wanted posters and we put them up all around the school.  We had to describe the Giant.

In Science, we read Day Monkey Night Monkey and talked about the sun, moon and stars. We had to stick the sun and moon at the right pictures.

In PE, we went to different levels to practise our over throwing. We also did under throw. It was great fun!

Some of our personal highlights this week are:

Caleb – I liked playing with the lego.

Vivien – I enjoyed playing with the bikes.

Diana – I enjoyed playing with everything.

Zion – I enjoyed playing at PE.

Shay – I liked playing with the all the toys.

Jiade – I liked playing with marble run.

P6A Weekly Update 6th May 2022

Our learning about Children Rights this week was Article 31 – Every child has the right to relax, play and take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities. We spent

For our Outdoor Learning this week we created a circle in the school ground using rakes and spade to clear an area for a Sunflower Circle to attract bees and insects to our grounds. On Friday we started to plant Sunflower seeds which will be transplanted into our circle in a few weeks. Next week we aim to plant more sunflowers and plant bedding plants into reuseable items pupils bring from home. e.g. wellington boots too small or with holes.

In math we have continued investigating symmetry of 2D shapes and calculating radius, diameter and circumference of circles which helped us with clearing a circle for our Sunflowers.

We researched different areas of daily life which the Scottish Government make decisions about. This we learned more about democracy by listening to P7 speeches and voting for the party we most agreed with.

We aim to complete writing our House/Vice Captain speeches and start rehearsing presentation techniques. We aim to start recording them over the coming weeks before sharing them with the School community. Pupils brought in Reading homework that they had decided upon in their group. I was very impressed by the amount of effort they put in to share their understanding of the book they had chosen.

In RE we  explored the Gift Fear of the Lord (Wonder & Awe for God’s creation).
