P2A Week Beginning 23rd May 2022

Hello P2A families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Yellow and Blue Table:

Ollie enjoyed handwriting with Mrs Ogunro this week.  We have only one more pattern to complete and then we have finished our P2 handwriting joins!  Very exciting!

Paige loved when we used balloons as part of our ‘oy’ phonics lesson.  Our partner called out an ‘oy’ word that the class composed and wrote on the big white board and we had to sound it out.  When we came to ‘oy’, we had to throw the balloon in the air.  We discovered that we were throwing the balloon mostly at the end of words.

Kyle liked working with a partner to build an array for our ‘Array City’ that then went onto our Maths Working Wall.  Unfortunately, not all of the buildings could fit but the children worked very well carefully placing the ‘windows’ in an organised way to represent the given Times Table.  Kyle and his partner built ‘2×6’.

Eva said the best part of her week was the ‘Ascension Thursday’ service with Fr Simon.  We were delighted to be able to join some other classes in the Hall for the first time in a long time.

Ruari liked PE with Mrs Lafferty.

Pola really loved using the Beebots and making them travel forwards, backwards, left and right’.  The children rotated around 5 different Beebot mats.  Pola’s favourite was the ‘Racing Track’ mat.

Aiden G’s highlight was playing with an app on the class ipad that allowed him to superimpose a picture of his and his friend’s head on a body.

Rebekah shares my highlight too, were the children had to work in pairs to find the missing numbers on a jigsaw piece of a 100 square using the given numbers as clues.  The jigsaw pieces had to then be slotted together to form a big 100 square.  There was a yellow 100 square to be made up and a pink one.  Rebekah was part of the pink one.  Super teamwork everyone!

Congratulations to Zosia, our Hot Chocolate Award winner this week.

P2B Week Beginning 23rd May 2022

Hello Parents,

We have had a super week. During health lessons we have been learning about the heart and enjoyed feeling for our pulse and counting how many times our heart beats in 30 seconds before exercise and after to see the difference. In Literacy, we have been practicing oi and oy words. The children enjoyed drawing the Queen’s head on a coin and writing oi words around it. In maths we made a ‘City of Arrays’ – the children worked with a partner to write the times table sum and work out the answer. They then collected that number of windows to go on their building. They laid them out neatly and stuck them down. Doesn’t our ‘City of Arrays’ look great?

Highlights from the Red Table:

Jayden – I liked the Assembly because we got to go into the hall with all the different classes and Father Simon.

Amelia – I liked when we were doing the oi words because it was fun.

Aaeryn-Leigh – I liked the Assembly because I liked doing the prayers and listening to Father Simon.

Kacper – I liked PE doing the racket and ball practice. I liked hitting it to my partner.

Michael – I liked doing PE because we were passing the ball to each other.

Matthias – I liked the Assembly because we were doing prayers with Father Simon.

Cohen – I liked Maths because we worked in teams to make the one hundred square and fill in the numbers that were missing to do the puzzle.

Well done to Georgia for winning the Hot Chocolate Award!

Have a great weekend,

Miss Lawrence

Weekly update 27.5.22

Hello Families

Literacy

This week we started a new ebook called ‘The Whole Truth’.  It is about a boy called Armitage and a girl called Marcie, they are twins. Armitage always tells lie, at least that is what Marcie thinks.

We made a plan for our own story using the book ‘ The man who wore all his clothes’ as inspiration. We are making these stories for the new Primary 1s who are starting this August.

Maths & Numeracy

We have continued with our fractions work. This week we have focused on finding halves and quarters of numbers and amounts.  We also started looking a little bit at equivalent fractions.

We have also been measuring the weight of different objects using balance scales.

Topic

We have continued to look at conflicts in the classroom, this week we focused on how to resolve conflicts.

Highlight of the Week

Matteo – I really liked ‘The man who wore all his clothes’ and making our own story.

Amelia – I liked doing PE.

Markuss – I liked Free Writing Friday.

Alexa – I liked dancing outside during Boogie Breaktime.

Primary 6A Weekly Update 27th May 2022

This week, as part of our Rights Respecting School Award,  Primary 6 explored Article 15 (freedom of association): Every child has the right to meet with other children and to join groups and organisations, as long as this does not stop other people from enjoying their rights. Some children were able to link this right with the Gift of Counsel (making good/bad choices) and how this can impact on their relationships with others.

Due to bad weather this week we have not had the opportunity get outside but we are hoping next week for better weather to allow us to continue weeding and planting.

We have completed our House Captain Speeches (writing and filming) and should be able to share them with the rest of the school soon.

Maths we have been revising our knowledge of how to calculate the perimeter and area of shapes. We hope to take this outside next week and make a map of the outside area.

We have found out who our new little buddies will be and will are excited to meet them over the next few weeks. Some of us will meet them next week.

Next week we have Bikeability on Tuesday and we are looking forward to having a lot of fun.

Have a great weekend.

Primary 1A Learning Highlights 27th May 2022

This week we have been doing activities about Hansel and Gretel. The dragon asked us to read this book to help Fairyland. We used our imaginations to act out visiting the Gingerbread House and used our senses to describe our adventure. In writing, we wrote 5 sentences about the Gingerbread House! We even made our own Gingerbread House in the classroom and we made sweets to decorate it in Creative Zone.

In maths, we have been learning about odd and even numbers. We used sweets from the Gingerbread House and sorted them out into the even and odd jars. We used Numicon to help us and we know that if the Numicon piece has a sticky up bit then it is an odd number.

In RE we listened to the story of the Ascension and we had a visit from Fr Simon on Thursday.

During Health and Wellbeing, we have been discussing healthy and unhealthy foods. We did a brilliant job of sorting them into the correct boxes. We also got to talk about foods that we liked and disliked.

Our personal highlights this week are:

Chimamanda – I enjoyed playing in the Gingerbread House.

Vivien – I enjoyed playing with everything.

Angel – I liked playing in block play and I made a stage.

Jiade – I liked playing in the shop at block play.

Hasika – I enjoyed playing in Creative Zone.

Caiden – I liked building at Lego.

Zion – I liked singing in the band at Block Play.

P2A Week Beginning 16th May 2022

Hello P2A families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Green and Red Table:

Nathan enjoyed using the ipads to program a Beebot.  We made it travel forwards, backwards, left and right.

Kayla loved using sticks and twigs from the woodlands to build a skeleton as part of our learning about the body.

Isabel liked it when we enjoyed ice pops in the nice sunshine as part of our learning about freezing and melting.

Ben said the best part of his week was completing instructional drawings of farm animals.  The children could choose to take part in 2 out of 4 drawings.  Choices were: a cow, a horse, a pig or a chicken.

Babafola loved our narrative writing lessons.  He made up a story about a lion and a lizard.  It was super!

Joe enjoyed listening to the story ‘Supertatoe’ wearing the superhero masks the class decorated.  If your child wishes to hear this story again, it can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIMb5oa370o

Aiden S enjoyed learning the numbers 11-20 in Spanish.  If your child wishes to practise these again, the following link might be helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2Z_1voFJJo

John thought continuing to pray a decade of the Rosary during the month of May was something special we did this week.

Chiji loved learning about left and right.  He wore a blindfold while Mrs Devlin called out instructions.  Next week’s math’s homework will be a practical one where all the children will get a turn to play this popular game.

David S liked problem solving with Mrs Brand.

David K liked the game where each child had to make as many sums as they could using only the digits displayed on the Smartboard.  Congratulations to Isabel who made the most sums!  She found 13!  We now know that 4 sums can be made using the same digits i.e. 6+4=10, 4+6=10, 10-6=4, 10-4=6.

Julia loved PE this week where she improved her balancing skills using an egg and spoon.

Zosia really enjoyed our lesson about freezing and melting.  We conducted an experiment were 6 ice cubes started to melt at the same time, only they had 6 different ingredients added to them.  We had to predict which ice cube would melt the fastest.  Check out the photos below to see what each of these 6 things were and what our predictions were.  Well done to those who guessed that salt would melt the ice fastest!

My highlight has to have been the fantastic teamwork that created our skeletons from twigs.  Well done P2A!

Congratulations to our Hot Chocolate award winner, Rebekah and to our Reading Champion, Aiden G!

Primary 6B learning highlights

We have had a great week together in P6B. Working together as a team we gained lots of points in the West Lothian Sumdog competition and came 1st! We are also proud of P6A who were 2nd and P7A who were 4th. Three classes in the top 10, well done SJO!

In maths we developed our knowledge of circles by learning about the radius, diameter and circumference. We will continue working on this next week too.

We have been very enthusiastic about starting to video our house and vice captain speeches. We hope to finish videoing these soon and allow other classes to see how hard we have been working. Over the week we have become more confident and overcome any nerves by giving each other positive feedback.

We have also started to write poems about our skills and talents that we are excited to share with our teachers for next year.

In P.E we enjoyed taking part in races and working cooperatively.

We ended the week with a movie together as a reward for great work and a treat from Mrs Roy for her last day in P6.

Thank you to all of the children and parents for their kindness and generosity. It is very much appreciated. Have a fantastic long weekend.

Mrs Roy
