P1A Learning Highlights 25th March 2022

This week we have been learning about the five cogs for Emotion Works.  We have sorted out cards to match up with the cogs and have been thinking a lot about words that name our emotions.  We enjoyed having choosing time outside on Wednesday when the weather was lovely.

Our seeds have now started to grow into seedlings.  We are very excited to see how much they will grow over the next week.  Then we will be able to take them home.

In phonics we have been learning the ‘oi’ and ‘ou’ sounds.  We have been practising reading words with these sounds and also spelling words.  In writing we have been learning about exposition texts and we wrote about which baby animal we thought was the cutest.  We are getting very good at remembering our capital letters and full stops.

In maths we have been working on our addition skills and using the games on Topmarks to help us.  We also did some more work on the greater than and less than symbols.

In RE we listened to a story about Jesus walking on water.  We coloured in a picture to show what happened in the story.

Here are some of our personal highlights this week are

Shay – I enjoyed going outside.

Zion – I liked playing outside in the sun.

Jack – I liked playing outside with my buddies.

Linda – I enjoyed doing the fairies with the buddies.

Caleb – I enjoyed making a tower with the loose parts.

Ollie – I enjoyed playing duck, duck, goose with all the buddies.

Aadya – I enjoyed playing in creative zone.

P2A Week Beginning 21st March

Hello P2A families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Blue Table:

Paige enjoyed making our space art.  The children used a printing technique to create craters on the moon and a toothbrush to flick paint on for the stars.

Ella like making our Mother’s Day gifts.  I hope all you lovely mothers enjoyed your day and loved the different things your child wrote about you.  A lovely keep sake.

Ollie said he loved learning about Global Goals.  The childrens’ cheers could be heard throughout the school as they heard how the global plan for 2030 is for there to be no poverty, no hunger, no pollution in the sea, gender quality……17 goals in total that will make our world a better place to live in.  We learned how we can play our part in helping achieve these global goals by ensuring we recycle and do not litter.

My highlight was our lesson on Creation.  The children were amazed that God just had to say the words, “Let there be…..” and these things appeared that make up our beautiful world.  We know we need to help take care of God’s beautiful world.

Congratulations to Chiji, our Hot Chocolate award winner for this week and Nathan, our Reading Champaign.

P1B Weekly Highlights 25th March 2022

It has been another very busy week in P1B

In Literacy we have been learning the ‘igh’ sound and can recall the sound and read words with this sound.  We did talking sentences about whether I should give my mum a flower bouquet or a chocolate bouquet.  We then used this to write our own persuasive sentence about whether a lamb or a chick was cuter.

We went on a minibeast hunt in the Woodlands using magnifying glasses and containers to collect them to have a closer look.  We found lots of bugs and were very excited to share our finding with our friends.  We then made our own minibeasts using natural materials from the woodland.

In Numeracy and Maths we have continued to work on addition and subtraction and we can recall the rule for subtraction – “big number take away smaller number”.  We learned about greater than and less than and made Mr Greater Than and Mrs Less Than crocodiles to help us.

We learned about what babies need and looked at class baby photos.  We looked at the life cycle of a worm and learned why worms are very important for the soil.  We watched a video that showed us how to make a wormery.

This week we got to bring our Grass Heads home.  They have started to grow lots of hair so we are now going to continue to look after them at home and said kind words to them to continue to help them grow.

We worked very hard making Mother’s Day cards and crafts for our mums.

Congratulations to Amy who was our Hot Chocolate Winner and to Reesa who was our Reading Champion.  Congratulations also to the Orange Table this weeks points winners!

We hope all our mums have a lovely Mother’s Day and that everyone has a lovely weekend and enjoys this great weather.

P2B Highlights Week Beginning 21st March 2022

Hello, P2B had an exciting week!

In literacy we were doing oa and ow, doing lots of different activities such as rainbow writing for ow words and pretending to be in a boat and fishing for oa words.

We have been looking at less than and greater than in maths and making our very own ‘Al the Alligator’. Also rounding to the nearest 10, which the children are doing really well with.

We have been looking at the Global Goals this week and had some great discussions about them. We will be linking these to our lessons and daily routine.

For topic, we worked in teams to design a rocket. The aim was to draw a detailed design, labelling the different parts with the resources that they would be made with, and then work together to make it. Each team done amazing and had great teamwork. Afterwards, we went outside and launched our rockets – it was so exciting! We observed that some of the rockets didn’t go as high/far because they had a lot of things taped to them which made them heavier. Below are pictures of each team with their design and model and then a video of all the rockets being launched.

Highlights from the Yellow table:

Addison – I liked learning about how God made the World in 7 days and drawing pictures and writing a ginormous number 7.

Ksawery – I liked doing the ow word hunt looking around the room to find them and it was also fun to write them on a whiteboard.

Scott – PE because I liked doing forward rolls on the big platform.

Anthony – I liked PE because we were climbing up any way we want and sliding down the other side.

Haadiya – Gymnastics on the mats. I was doing lots of balances.

Cohen – I liked to make the rockets because we made them blast off in the end and we know which rocket went the highest.

Ismaeel – PE because we got to do forward rolls on the big black table.

Well done to Nicolas for winning the Hot Chocolate Award and Aaeryn-Leigh for becoming the Reading Champion.

Have a lovely weekend in the sunshine,

Miss Lawrence

P3A – WB 21.03.22

Dear Readers,

We hope you are all well and also that you have been enjoying these beautiful sunny days.

This week’s highlights were:

  • In Literacy, we learned more about exposition/persuasive texts and their features, continued reading our super interesting novel George’s Marvellous Medicine and learned how to write acrostic poems. We have revised the features of sentences and introduced the concept of paragraph. Our weekly spelling assessment was, as usual, today, and the children worked hard to get 10/10!
  • In Maths and Numeracy we have been working really hard on our 2,3,4,5 and 10 times tables and also on the division facts of the tables for all of them!
  • Regarding Topic, our class novel, we have been discussing all its different aspects and completing different tasks, including an acrostic poem about the word Marvellous!
  • For Health and Wellbeing we are continuing to work on making good choices and helping others to make good choices, even when we do not feel very happy about them. We have also been learning and working a lot on the need to make things right if we have made a bad choice, since many still find it very hard to apologise. As we proud ourselves on being very polite and kind we now have a kindness jar which will hopefully be emptied every fortnight to find out who the kindest person has been! Really looking forward for the counting of the kindness notes on Monday!

And that’s all for today!

We hope you have a wonderful and bright weekend filled with fun and laughter!

P7a Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

This week’s learning was really enjoyable though the Ipad has been getting updated so we’ve no photos unfortunately.

Mrs Amatler visited again on Monday, delivering a lesson which will help us with Reciporcal Reading lessons we will be starting next term.

We have continued with our class novel ‘The Explorer’ and have been reading about the children eating tarantulas to survive! Apparently they taste a bit like chicken.

In writing we have been continuing with Exposition and this week tried to persuade people that there shouldn’t be school uniform.

We took drama outside this week because the weather was so nice and did the same for Fun Friday.

Outdoor Learning was a very popular lesson where we had bread on a stick at the firepit. We rolled dough and wrapped it around long stick we found in the woodlands before cooking it over the fire and then enjoying (or not) eating it. Sorry for all the smoky uniforms sent home on Thursday!

Friday’s maths was problem solving using a new resource and we had to solve a murder mystery using 12 and 24h times to track peoples locations and figure out who the murder was.

Mya was this week’s Hot Chocolate at home winner and Caoimhe is our new Reading Champion.

Next week is the final week before the Easter holidays and we have lots and lots of learning planned.

Enjoy your weekend,

Mr McGurn and P7a.

P3B Learning Highlights – 25.3.21

It’s been another very busy week in Primary 3B!

In literacy, we have been continuing to work on persuasive writing (exposition).  We used the plans that we made last week to write to the rest of the school, telling them why we think it is a good idea to wear school uniform.  The children did a fantastic job and were very persuasive!

In Maths and Numeracy, we continued to learn about counting different amounts of money. We have also began working on division.  We quickly realised that the better we know our times tables, the quicker we can work out the answers to division questions.  It would be fantastic if all the children could practise the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables at home.

The winner of the Hot Chocolate Friday award this week is Jude.  This was very well deserved as Jude is always hard working in class and is very kind and helpful to others.

We have a new award which is for a class Reading Champion.  Our new Reading Champion is Ishani M.  Ishani loves reading books and is always enthusiastic when discussing books in class.

Here are a few of the children’s learning highlights this week:

Daniel: I liked doing gymnastics in the hall.

Jude: I enjoyed Art on Friday morning.

Stefi: I enjoyed learning times tables and division.

Amelia: I enjoyed music with Mrs Morrison

Matteo: I liked telling people why school uniforms are a good idea!

Ishani M: I loved reading our class book, George’s Marvellous Medicine!

Layla: I liked the word boost book this week – Tyrannosaurus Drip!

We wish you all a fantastic weekend!

P6B Learning highlights- week beginning 21.3.22

Good afternoon,

Literacy: This week our class participated in a valuable lesson on visualisation. We were able to successfully draw what we had imagined in our heads as we listened to descriptions. We enjoyed looking at all of our drawings and comparing as we all visualise things in different ways.

Numeracy and Maths: We have continued to work on missing numbers and algebraic equations. We were able to successfully represent numbers for letters and shapes using inverse rules. In maths we used our knowledge of times tables to work on area and could use A=LXB to work out the area covered.

Art: We tied our art lesson in with our outdoor learning as we looked for signs of Spring.

Outdoor learning: We went out on our class walk to look for signs of Spring. We came across some flowers beginning to bloom, trees blossoming, and signs of new life.

Over and above: Well done to Ethan for working hard in Literacy and maths to achieve the hot chocolate at home.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Roy

Primary 6A Weekly Update 25th March 2022

On Tuesday this week it was World Water Day.

This week’s Children Rights activities linkedto the following articles:

Article 24 (health and health services): Every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and well-being so that children can stay healthy. Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.

Article 27 (adequate standard of living): Every child has the right to a standard of living that is good enough to meet their physical and social needs and support their development. Governments must help families who cannot afford to provide this.

We made posters to highlight the dangers from pollution and climate change to the amount of clean useable water. We were shocked to learn that 1000 children a day die from lack of clean, drinkable water.

In math we continued developing our understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages by using our knowledge of multiplication and division

We made Persuasive Tourist Posters which your child can show you theirs on Teams.

On Wednesday we explored the woods and played cooperative games. In Art this week we created cherry blossom trees.

Next week we will continue our persuasive writing ‘Why should every child should learn to swim?’  and continue to find fractions, percentages and decimal amounts.

Have a lovely weekend.
