Hello families!
It has been so lovely to have had the children return this week after our Easter break. I have missed them so much and some have even sprouted up! Here are some of the learning highlights this week according to ‘Bathgate’:
Tyler T enjoyed learning about the 4 Times Tables. We looked at lego pieces with 4 spots, cars with 4 wheels and white boards with 4 corners to help us use this Times Table in a real life context (see photo below).
Viaan loved the Building Thinking Classroom session were the children worked in randomized groups to solve some problems. Ask your child what the BTC rules are! This week the children had to place numbers inside some hexagon shapes listening to instructions such as, ” The number 1s are not to touch the number 3s” etc. The children all loved this and are looking forward to more BTC sessions next week.
Matteo continued to enjoy playing Rounders for PE. This month the children are working on developing their run/jump/throwing skills.
Vikashini said that listening to our class novel White Fang has been something she has enjoyed this week. We are so relieved to hear that White Fang is a fiction story as we are at a part where White Fang is being mistreated by his owner. This led to a discussion about animal cruelty and the law today.
Daisy and Laaibah both enjoyed our ‘Thursday Outside of the Box’ activity were the children use their creativity to turn an image in to something. This week they had ‘This is not an aeroplane’. Daisy transformed her ‘not aeroplane’ in to a gingerbread man and Laaibah transformed hers in to a stingray! Both were very impressive!
My highlight was our BTC session, like Viaan. It was great to see the excitement as the children discovered who was in their randomised groups and to see the co-operation and ‘light bulb’ moments as they solved the problems. I have also been very proud of the children as we have begun to prepare for our upcoming assembly. The singing is beautiful, narrators and actors are are becoming increasingly confident and some super dance moves have been suggested for our choreography! Parents you are in for a treat! Just a reminder that our assembly is on Friday, 1st May. Look out for the personal invitation that your child will make and give to you next week.
We welcomed a new pupil to our St John Ogilvie family this week, Gabriela. The children have helped her to feel welcome and I hope she has been enjoying her time with us so far.
Have a super weekend!
Mrs Brown
