This has been another very busy week. As part of our learning about Children’s Rights we focussed on child labour in its many forms around the world. Over 170 million children under 16 work full time and receive no education. We had interesting discussions and created posters opposing child labour.

Article 32 Child labour – Governments must protect children from economic exploitation and work that is dangerous or might harm their health, development or education. Governments must set a minimum age for children to work and ensure that work conditions are safe and appropriate.

Article 35 Prevention of sale and trafficking -Governments must protect children from being abducted, sold or moved illegally to a different place in or outside their country for the purpose of exploitation.

Global goal 8 (8.7) Take immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labour, end modern slavery and human trafficking and secure the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labour, including recruitment and use of child soldiers, and by 2025 end child labour in all its forms.

The children finished their letters to their new teacher and on Thursday morning the children found out that their teacher next year was a lovely new teacher Ms Mushet and Mrs Callaghan. They were able to discuss things that concerned them and what they were looking forward to. We are hopeful that Ms Mushet will be able to come in and visit the class in a few weeks. Also on Thursday afternoon we had House Groups where the Primary 6 pupils presented their speeches to become House Captain or Vice Captain next year in Primary 7. They were all wonderful and we should hear the results soon.

Next week we are looking forward to having a fire in the woodlands to cook and eat our vegetables with some of the herbs we have been growing. I even heard a rumour there may be some marshmallows and hot chocolate. Have a lovely weekend everyone.
