Today P6/7 had their much awaited “Fracking Debate.” Good points were put over by both sides, those for fracking and those who are against. Ruby reminded us that it was part of our Class Charter -Article 24 “that children have the right to clean water and with over 700 different chemicals pumped into the water to fracture the rock how could we be sure our rights were not being broken and that the chemicals wouldn’t get into our drinking water?”
Dylan said “there is no proof fracking causes earthquakes, there were tremors when exploration started in Lancashire but no damage was caused.”
Cain used our class display to get over the point that fracking brings jobs to the community. When questioned by Emma about how long jobs would last and how far people would have to travel for jobs he said that would be taken into consideration when interviewing for jobs in that travel and moving allowances would be given.
Paris said “there are many studies from the U.S.A. to show that fracking causes harm, chemical filled water leaks that kill plants and trees, gas and chemicals getting into the water and in some cases can be lit to fuel a flame!”
After a lot of discussion, many questions and at times quite a heated debate P6/7 voted by a large majority to Say No To Fracking!
