P6/7 have been finding out about Fracking as part of their Energy topic.
Fracking is the process of drilling down into the earth before a high-pressure water mixture is directed at the rock to release the gas inside. Water, sand and chemicals are injected into the rock at high pressure which allows the gas to flow out to the head of the well.
We plan on having a debate next week as there are some very strong opinions about it.
Carla says “My washing gets covered in dust and the plants in my garden won’t grow.”
“Fracking could make my children sick” says Lucy.
Cain insists ” Fracking will bring a lot of new jobs to our community.”
“Fracking is not worth the 8 million litres of water, sand and chemicals it takes to get to the gas and definitely not worth the risk of chemicals leaking into our water, lung infections and other health issues” says a very concerned Ruby.
The debate will certainly be interesting as we have very different points of view. Look next week to see how our debate went.
