Mr Gorski talks to P6/7 about Photography

P6/7 were very lucky today to have one of our parents come in and give a talk about his interest in photography. Mr Gorski,  is obviously a very enthusiastic and talented photographer in his spare time.Mr Gorsky 024 Mr Gorsky 030

He told us about waiting for up to 3 hours just to get the right shot. He also said that what makes a good photograph is the feeling behind it, how you feel about the picture. The message that came through very clear was to follow your interests, don’t give up. His equipment which was very heavy was a mix of old and new- cameras, lenses, tripod, reflectors etc. but very expensive.

Mr Gorski shared some of his photographic techniques to achieve different types of picture. We thought that the photo above was taken in the U.S.A. but it was taken not far from Bathgate. Quite often he has to walk long distances and climb mountains to get the “right” picture.

As he goes to some quite lonely, rugged and bleak locations he goes with a friend in case there are any accidents. He told us that when he went to The Devils Pulpit to take a photograph, one minute he was knee deep in water and the next  he was being sucked under out of his depth. Devils Pulpit

He said it was his plastic bag with his trousers and camera that acted as a float that saved him and brought him back to the surface.Mr Gorsky 056 Mr Gorsky 016

Mr Gorski, a huge thank you from us all for sharing your interest . Already we have one keen photographer, who after you left shared that she had fallen out of a tree into a bog trying to take a picture of a duck! Perhaps you can come back and give her some tips.
