Scottish Children’s Book Awards competition results!

We had some very exciting news today at school! We found out that we had two winners at St Columba’s for the review competition we entered into. This competition was open to all children across Scotland and the task was to review one of the shortlisted books they liked in the running for the competition.

Ryley won third place in the Bookbug reader’s category with his fantastic review below talking about the book ‘Robot Rumpus’:

“I don’t know how the robots fit in the box when they came to the house because they are so big! Clean-bot has got so many arms too. This book made me think of all these questions. I think Wash-bot has got lots of arms to get the people clean. I liked it when the toothpaste got squirted down the toilet!! There were lots of new words that I learnt from the book too. I didn’t like the part when Cook-bot tipped spaghetti into the bath!”

He has won some vouchers to spend in Waterstone’s the bookshop. Well done Ryley!

Lilie-Eve won first place in the Bookbug reader’s category with her review of ‘Lost for words’:

“There are lots of characters in this story, the giraffe, hippo, tapir and flamingo. I thought they were all kind to each other and got each other the notebooks. Hippo couldn’t think of anything to write, but the others could, so he tried to find out what the others were writing. This helped him and he started drawing pictures for his friends. I really liked the pictures in the story because they were so pretty, I was astonished each time I turned the page. I was happy like a hippo! This book made me smile. I didn’t enjoy the part when he couldn’t think of anything to write in his notebook because it made me sad.”

She has won book vouchers too and a prize that involves all of us at St Columba’s, a school visit from one of the shortlisted authors! Well done Lilie-Eve!

A big well done to everyone who took part in the competition, either by reading the books shortlisted, voting or writing reviews too.
