Baby it’s cold outside!

With the cold weather upon us we have had to miss out on some outdoor playtime as the playground has been like an ice rink. However, we have not let this stopped us from getting out and about whenever we can! Wrapped up warm we have braced the cold weather. In the Lion class we believe that there is no such thing as bad weather just bad clothing.

This term pupils have been focusing on using large motor skills in P.E incorporating a sequence of movements and we have been very impressed with the skills we have saw during the lessons. Pupils have all worked really hard and they have all made a huge improvement with their confidence and skills.

The lead up to Christmas has been very quick and we have been trying to keep things calm with a little sprinkle of fun and magic. One week to go till the holidays and we would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy holidays. Please leave us a note in the diary of some of the things you get up to over the holidays.

Hedgehogs Ice Investigations

On Monday it was too icy to go out to play so the children in the Hedgehog class brought some in to investigate.  First they tried to melt it in different parts of the school and learned that sitting it on the radiator or in direct sunlight were the places it melted fastest.

Some children enjoyed being creative with it by using food colouring to create interesting patterns.

Malaki wanted to know if the melted ice could be refrozen and discovered by putting it in the freezer it could.  From there all the children drowned a little Christmas character in a cup and then froze it.  Later they used a choice of  warm water, salt or an ice pick to rescue them from the ice block.

The children were so interested in the ice that it led to work creating their own snow in class by following a recipe.  A great sensory experience!

Taxi drivers and escorts training session with CAMHS

Thank you so much to Dr Kidd from CAMHS who delivered an entertaining, informative training session for our fantastic taxi drivers and escorts on dealing with children with learning disabilities.  This was on a voluntary basis but had an overwhelming response.  Thank you for giving up your time.

The Hedgehogs celebrate St. Andrew’s Day

The children in the Hedgehog class had great fun celebrating St Andrew’s Day on Friday.  As well as the ceilidh dancing and Scottish snacks (Cranachan and cheese oatcakes) many dressed up in tartan.

Throughout the week the children studied the work of Scottish architect and artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh and went on to create chairs based on his designs.  They also got creative by making their own version of a tartan kilt.  Have a look and let us know what you think…….

Good Luck Mrs. Charles!

On Friday the children in the Hedgehog said Goodbye and Good Luck to Mrs Charles who will now be working in the office and throughout the school. Every-one had the chance to thank her for her help, support and encouragement throughout her time with the Hedgehogs but are happy that they will still see her around.

We welcome Mr Cunningham into the class and look forward to getting to know him.
