Time flies in P1….

What a quick week it has been in P1.  Time does fly when you are having fun!

This week in numeracy,  we have been learning about numbers up to twenty and in particular looking at how these numbers are made.  We have been using tens and ones materials to help us as well as playing place value basketball on the laptops.

We have been also been skip counting in 10s.  We have been ordering numbers in tens up to one hundred and  playing the Ghostblaster game to help us recall the multiples of ten as quickly as we can!

In Literacy we have been doing LOTS and LOTS of reading activities especially for World Book Day.  We listened to the story of Quick Quack Quentin  told by Kes Gray.  We wondered what our names would look like if Quentin stole the letter A from them so we wrote them down.  Some of our names were quite funny looking without an A in it and some didn’t look any different.  Why do you think that was?

We spent time looking at the different characters in books and then we chose one to design our lollipop characters.  We put a lot of hard work into them and they  looked FANTASTIC!

Remember to use your World Book Tokens and keep reading.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend!

News From P7/6

We are wishing everyone a great world book day! Have fun snuggling up with a cup of something nice and your favorite book.

P7/6 have been working on division and using a variety of strategies to solve problems. When things get though the boys and girls have shown great perseverance and resilience.

We have great fun with P7 on our trip to the Science centre in Glasgow and had the fantastic opportunity to program robots using code!

P3 – World Book Day Activities

P3 would like to thank everyone for supporting our Biscuit and Blether that we co-hosted with P3/2 this morning.
We had a great time, sharing our stories with our friends and family.

During the week, we made our lollipop stick book characters with Mrs Mackie – don’t they look great?

Throughout today, we had to Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R.) whenever we heard the bell ring 3 times – Mrs Stewart loved the opportunity to sit down for ten minutes and lose herself in her book!

Have a lovely weekend and Happy Reading! 🙂

P7 World Book Day Week beginning 4.03.019

P7 pupils enjoyed listening to a story read online by Tim Peake.

Using our art and design skills to create a book character from a lollipop stick. Can you guess our characters?  They are work in progress for Thursday’s World Day challenge.

Can you encourage your child to read more?  Reading helps to build vocabulary, develops a child’s imagination and in turn can inspire them to write their own pieces.

Happy World Book Day from P7

ELC at Murrayfield

Nursery has been very busy since returning from Christmas!

We cannot believe it is March already, Spring is nearly upon us!

Recently we have been looking at different traditional stories, such as Three Little Pigs and Goldilocks and Three Bears. We have had lots of activities out for the children to try such as porridge oats in our tuff tray and different sized bowls, the children have been learning about the language of measurement within maths, for example big, bigger, biggest and big, medium sized and small.

Since having our glorious weather over the last week we have been looking at growing and planting in our garden. There has been lots of interesting ideas of what we can plant and grow in our garden ranging from apples to make an apple pie, carrots, strawberries and potatoes. The children have been discussing what is healthy and unhealthy and this has come through our new floorbook for snack. The children have been given lots of ideas and you will see our snack menu in the cloakroom.

Keep a look out for our floorbook display in the cloakroom and feel free to add any comments!

Rotary Club Quiz 2019

Murrayfield’s team had their thinking caps on tonight when they won the Rotary Club, Whitburn’s Annual Primary School Quiz.  There were some tricky questions and some new categories to contend with this year but we thoroughly enjoyed the evening and you kept us all on tenterhooks until the very end.   Great work Murrayfield!

Well done to all the teams who took part, to the Rotary Club Whitburn for organising, to Polkemmet Primary for hosting and to the families and friends who came along to support everyone.
