News in P6

Hi Everyone,

This week we visited Peat Moss to collect sticks and stones for our Human Body Topic. We then took these back to school and created twig skeletons. Have a look at the pictures and you can decide which is the best one 🙂 We also used this idea to put the bones of a skeleton back together and name the correct bones.

In Maths we have been learning about kilograms and grams and have been weighing different items. This has been a fun lesson to take part in.

Through our science we have been learning about the digestive system and we took part in an experiment which involved using digestive biscuits and orange juice. It was a bit messy and some of the boys were disgusted by the outcome. We then wrote up science reports to discuss what we did, step by step.

In Literacy we were doing alliteration and we had to write our own Tongue Twisters. We also looked at personification which you associate an object as a person, such as Dancing Table.

A very busy and fun week had by all 🙂

P5 News

This week we have been looking at Division facts and a variety of different strategies we can use.

We summarized a short text during reading routes and looked at adjectives in grammar .

Gemma Fay from Champions in Scotland came for a visit. We experienced a day in the life of an athlete. She taught us that you can not achieve success without effort.

This weeks skillionaires were Skyeblue and Logan. Well done!

Congratulations to Skyblue , Abbie and Connal for their wider achievements in swimming and rugby. R0014093

P7/6 and P7 Mock Election 2016

This week our P7/6 and P7 classes have been learning about:

  • The Scottish Elections
  • Living in a democracy versus a dictatorship
  • Voting systems: First Past the Post versus Proportional Representation

The classes were split into parties.  Using their developing team work skills they had to work together, democratically deciding on:

  • Party Name
  • Party Leader
  • Party Colour, Logo and make Rosettes
  • Write a Manifesto
  • Design and create a leaflet promoting their party
  • Write a speech to promote their party

Both Mrs Harrison and I were extremely impressed with the manner in which all pupils engaged with their learning.  They demonstrated superb team work skills and a real maturity in each of the tasks set.  A HUGE well done to all!

Today we brought our learning together and held a mock election.  All pupils from P5-7 were invited to listen to the manifesto speeches and a democratic vote was held. Ms Macrae also came along – she too was extremely impressed with the standard of the work.  Thank you to all the pupils and teachers from P5 and P6 for coming along to support our election.

We plan to further develop and extend our knowledge of political elections by learning about the upcoming European Referendum.

The result of today’s election will be announced on Monday … Watch this space!

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend and enjoy the good weather!

Miss Preston and Mrs Harrison 🙂 🙂

P7 Transition to Bathgate Academy – Transport Update

Update

School Transport: Bus Applications

ALL pupils requiring transport in the new session (August 2016) are still required to submit an application form.  However, P7 bus passes for transition days will now be sent to the school so that we can distribute these to pupils prior to their first transition day.  Parents are not required to do anything to get these temporary passes as we will now be able to order these on your child’s behalf.

To find the online application form to arrange transport from August 2016, simply follow the link which will take you directly to the application process page.  The form  will be submitted directly to school transport:

http://www.westlothian.gov.uk/article/10045/Free School- Transport-Application-form

The deadline given by School Transport for submission of forms is 6th MAY –  This date is earlier than in previous years in order to ensure service delivery.  We have downloaded a paper copy of the form which we can give you if anyone is having difficulty using the above link.

P7/6

A reminder that the school is closed to pupils tomorrow (Thursday 5th May).

The pupils of P7/6 and P7 have been learning all about why the school is closed tomorrow.

Please do question them! See how well they can explain today’s learning to you in preparation for Friday ……
