P5/4’s Wonderful Week!

What a fantastic week we’ve had this week.  We learned how to write a newspaper report including how to use alliteration to make your headline snappy!  Some of my favourite alliterations that the children came up with for our names were – Devious Drummond for Miss Drummond and  Mrs V’s Birthday Went Viral!

Thank you very much to my whole lovely class for the cards, gifts, singing and surprises for my birthday.  The children really helped make my birthday very special and I was completely spoiled!  They children worked especially hard that day too which made working on my birthday a pleasure!

This week’s favourite things according to the pupils were:

Anton – Giving Mrs V’s birthday cake to her.

Liam – Doing our newspaper reports on our class assembly.

Kaiden – Writing was really fun this week.

Robbie – Handwriting is always good because I enjoy it.

Zander – I liked rounding in maths using the whiteboards.

Harry – Maths was very enjoyable this week when we got to complete tasks using the whiteboards.

Rachael – Handwriting was challenging this week.

Neive – I loved getting a Head Teachers award for my writing this week.

This week’s raffle winners are:

Pink chair – Joshua

Sitting next to Mrs V in assembly – Jay

Sitting in Mrs V’s chair for one lesson -Ryan

Sitting next to a friend for one lesson – Neive

Prize from the prize box – Christopher and Robbie

Have a great weekend everyone!

Primary 3G and Children in Need

Primary 3G have had a really busy week practising for their Children in Need Assembly.  They have been selling raffle tickets and have made quite a lot of money.  The money is going to the Children in Need charity and it will help children to have better homes, lives, give them food and some things that will help them survive.  We have been learning about needs and wants in our class and even though we know that toys are wants, we wish that we could help children who don’t have toys to have some nice things to play with.

Next week, we are holding a bake sale and our children and adults raffles will be drawn.  Make sure to buy your raffle tickets to help us to raise even more money for Children in Need.

This post was written by the children of P3G and typed in by Mrs Millar.

Mrs Waugh, Mrs Mackie and Mrs Millar are so proud of all the boys and girls who managed, even when the microphone stopped working, to carry on and deliver a very special message.

P7 Big Talk Homework

Hello everyone,

This week Primary 7 will be looking at advertisements for their Big Writing. Advertisements can be in the form of posters, billboards and adverts on the television.

For you Big Talk homework I would like you to look at some adverts while watching TV. There will be lots of them now that it’s coming up to Christmas (shhh, I know it’s too early to discuss but it’s fast approaching!) Think about how these adverts draw your attention. Is it the words they use, the colours, the products they are selling, or the animation? Think also about adverts for being fun/exciting things or for sad/thought provoking things. You can discuss all these things with an adult and bring in your ideas for Tuesday.

Thanks again for all your help. Have fun!

P3G – Children in Need Assembly

pudsey-bear

Just a little reminder that P3G will be having their class assembly on Friday 18th November 2016 and it is a dress down/ up day for the whole school.  The class are very excited and we are going to have a busy time next week preparing for the big day.

The boys and girls have decided that we will hold our fundraising bake sale on Thursday 24th November as this will give us time after the assembly week to prepare the goodies for sale.

Remember everyone, you do not need to pay to dress down/up for this event, however there will be a collection available should you wish to make a small donation.  The boys and girls also wanted me to remind you that they will be coming to classes to sell raffle tickets (50p for children and £1 for adults, per strip)

Remember the theme is ‘Wear your Spots’ / ‘Children in Need’ – so previously worn dotty/ spotty outfits will be perfect or simply a pair of bear ears.  We are hoping Pudsey Bear will be able to join us, so fingers/paws crossed!

P5

Some great Diary entry this week. These reflected well on the thoughts P5’s have on Law and Order and its importance.  We have had a fantastic conversation about what will happen if there was no law and order.

The boys and girls are all working extremely hard during comprehension activities to read the text, understand the text and answer related questions. Many are now starting to use part of the question to answer using full sentences.

In PE we are working on Netball skills. The children are all very comfortable in showing the different passes and are now working on dodging techniques.

This week in p5/4

What a fantastic week we have had preparing for our remembrance assembly, finishing with a fantastic performance in front of family, friends and the rest of the school.  I am SO proud of my whole class and want to thank them for the hard work they all put in this week.  Thanks also to the friends and family who came to watch the assembly.  Your support is very much appreciated.

As always, I asked some of the children for their highlights of the week.

Emma: I enjoyed the experience of speaking in front of everyone at assembly.

Jay: I thought our assembly was really perfect as everyone was really good.

Scott: I enjoyed practicing for our assembly so that I could learn my words off by heart.

Robbie and Christopher: we liked maths this week as we enjoyed doubling numbers.  The number talks session really helped us to remember strategies to help complete our work.

Layla: I loved maths this week when we were doubling numbers.  When you double numbers you never know how big the next number will be.

Esme: I liked making the poppy pictures with chalk pastels.  I even liked getting into trouble for coming home in a mess!

Brihanna: I love answering and asking questions so my favourite thing this week was the Mild, Spicy, Hot comprehension passage.  I liked having to look for answers in the passage.

Our raffle winners for this week were:

Prize from the prize box – Anton and Brooke

Pink chair – Layla

Sitting next to Mrs V at assembly – Anna

Sitting next to a friend for one lesson – Esme

Sitting on Mrs V’s chair for one lesson – Neve

Well done to all our lucky winner as well as everyone else who earned raffle tickets throughout the week.

Next week spelling homework will be given out as normal on Monday as well as a maths homework sheet.  This should be handed in on Thursday unless previously agreed with myself.

P.E. will take place on Tuesday(outdoor) and Wednesday(indoor) so please make sure that your child has suitable PE kits for both sessions.  As it is getting so cold now, tracksuit bottoms and a jumper/sweatshirt would be ideal.  Trainers would be beneficial too as many school shoes are not ideal for taking part in sports.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs V.

P7 News

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for purchasing our “Make it Grow,” Goodie Bags. We have raised £198 so far. This money will be going towards a fun filled trip near the end of term.

We have good news to share with the school. Blake Newall was chosen by a scout to play for Livingston Football Club!! We are all super proud of him and wish him lots of success in his football career. Also, Aimee Clifton was chosen for the CAB calendar this year and she is thrilled to bits.

In class we have been learning about decimal fractions and we have also been creating graphs and using excel spread sheets to help us with our Make it Grow.

To continue the theme of respect we have been creating posters through ICT on people we admire. Look out for these posters on the blog soon.

Have a nice Weekend!
