This week in Primary 3

We have had a great and busy week in P3.

It is Scottish maths week so we have done some maths and numeracy every day.

We created our own pictures out of lots of 2D shapes. We made some house pictures, mermaids, rockets, monsters and animals all from different shapes.

We have continued our work on time, learning all about quarter past and quarter to.

We used 3D objects to build models and towers.

We have been practising our spelling, especially common words and we have used these in our handwriting.

For our topic we discussed similarities and differences between island life and living in a town or city. We found a new and interesting word, population.

Big talk and numeracy homework will come home next week, spelling and reading will begin the week after.

Have a great long weekend.

P6/7 Class Trip Photos

Good Afternoon Parents and Carer’s,

After a wonderful day out discovering things about space, I would like to share some photographs of the class having fun and learning through different experiences at the Chamber Street Museum.

The children created a telescope with paper and a plastic lens, and studied several different rocks found on earth from space. Both classes also got to explore the museum in The Science and Animal zones.

Well done everyone for being well behaved and a credit to Murrayfield.

MATHS WEEK SCOTLAND 11TH – 17TH SEPTEMBER 2017

Welcome to Maths Week Scotland, a brand new initiative to help everyone in our nation see maths positively.  The Scottish Government’s aim is for everyone to experience the benefits, joy and beauty of maths in exciting new ways. From September, they hope to see maths being explored and celebrated throughout Scotland, and very much hope that schools will participate in some way.

Maths Week has been created as a result of the Making Maths Count group’s recommendations as a way to raise the profile of maths and its importance in all aspects of our lives.  If you’d like to read more, the report of the group is here.

Murrayfield pupils will experiencing a variety of maths challenges and games throughout this week.  We will be gathering photographs of pupils/ classes participating in these activities in order to create a presentation which will be shown on our LCD screen at the main entrance.  Please look out for this presentation in the coming weeks!

P6

A busy week in P6 this week.

We had the pleasure to work with Mrs Linscer from the language center this week on Visualizing and Verbalizing. Visualizing and Verbalizing will help us become better writers.

In Numeracy we are looking at place value and can read numbers up to a Million.

We are exploring measure and are excited to learn more about the different ways in which we measure.

P7/6 News

Good Morning everyone,

We have had a few busy weeks settling into our p7/6 routine and have already been working hard on different aspects of the curriculum. We have completed some Imaginative Writing, have been working on Place Value within Numeracy and have started our new topic of The Solar System.

On Monday the children will have their first trip this year to The National Museum of Scotland for their class topic. The children are really excited. The Wednesday after the children will be completed a personal account of their trip which will co-inside with their Big Talk and Big Writing.

This week I shall be giving homework out on Tuesday and I would like it handed in on the Friday. Homework will consist of Reading, Spelling and Numeracy. I will also expect Big Talk homework to be completed for every Wednesday which will support the children’s writing.

Here us a breakdown of homework activities:

  1. Spelling-sentences, copy each word 3 times and create a new way to remember how to spell spelling words.
  2. Reading-set reading for each group along with a literacy circles activity.
  3. Numeracy- an activity that will relate to weekly activity in class.

Homework will usually be given out on a Monday and be handed in on a Thursday but due to class trip I shall do Tuesday to Friday this week. Big Writing will take place on a Wednesday so Big Talk homework (which will relate to the genre of writing) will be given on a Friday for everyone to have plenty time to discuss or complete the activity.

Thank you so much for your continued support.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Moir

Primary 3 Update

This week in Primary 3, we have started learning and practising some French. We have done our class register in French, practised colours in French and counted up in French too.

Our topic this term is going to be Katie Morag and Island life. We have watched some episodes of Katie Morag and heard some stories before doing some comprehension questions.

Each day we have been writing diary entries, focussing on super sentences.

We are continuing to work on time in maths, matching analogue and digital times.

We have kept working on our learning pit and will use this to help us when we are finding something tricky.

Have a lovely weekend.

Our Week in Primary 3

Our Week in Primary 3

We have had a busy and fun week in class. We have been using the story Marvin Gets Mad to learn all about our emotions. We have written stories about Marvin and drawn some pictures.

For outdoor learning we discovered some apple trees in the playground. We decided to sketch them and do some paintings.

We have been practising our joined up handwriting and will continue to work on this as well as spelling practise.

In maths we have been learning about time with Miss Drummond. We know to practise this at home by looking at analogue and digital clocks.

We have a new reward system in class and we try to collect as many raffle tickets as we can by following the rules on our new class charter.

Our PE days this year will be Wednesday and Thursday.

We hope you have a great weekend.

Miss Calder, Miss Drummond and Primary 3.
