CAB Poster competition winners!

Congratulations to all five of our poster winners who received their prizes on Friday, at a presentation in the Library. The winning entries will be included in the 2018 CAB Calendar, including the Nursery entry from the school. The calendars will be given out to schools as soon as they are ready. There will also be additional copies available in the Library.

The judges were particularly impressed with the text that Rachael had included within her design and so her poster has been chosen to be framed and displayed in the Library within the new Partnership Centre! Fantastic achievement, Rachael, well done!

Working hard in P2/1.

We have been working hard in P2/1 this week despite it being a shorter week than normal.

We have been taking pictures with our ‘memory camera’ to help us recognise and reme

mber the word ‘the’ as it is a word that we can’t sound out.  We have been learning to write ‘the’ on our whiteboards, building ‘the’ from Lego and finding ‘the’ which has been mixed up with lots of other words.  We are getting good at recognising and writing it now!

We designed posters with an Eco theme for the House points board.  We had lots of good ideas to share and worked hard on our designs.

We are still learning to speak French.  We can say ‘Bonjour’ and always start our mornings off with a French song.  This week we have been learning what ‘Ca-va?’ means and have been answering Mrs Mackie in English but next week we will learn to answer in French!

We have started singing songs for our Nativity already!  So, you might hear us singing about Father Christmas and Christmas recipes around the house!

We had an afternoon of ‘autumn’ were we had different autumn challenges.  We could build a home for an animal to live in or explore the autumn tray and draw the natural things that we found (like conkers or sycamore keys or acorns).  We had autumn paper and wrote or drew stories about autumn.  We completed autumn patterns and had to decide which autumn picture would come next plus lots of other activities to do.

Next week we will be learning about Halloween and beginning our new topic about Scottish Wildlife. We will be learning about keeping ourselves safe on Bonfire night, rhyming words and adding sums and much, much more.  Ask us what we are learning and we will be able to tell you!

Miss Paterson is working in our class with us just now and will be with us for the next four weeks. She is helping us with our learning and we are showing her what superstars we are!

P6

This week in P6 we have explored fractions. It was great fun and tricky too. We can represent fractions in different ways and will attempt to write proper and improper fractions.

We were so excited about the Halloween party on Thursday that we wrote a postcard informing someone of our excitement and plans.

We had the opportunity to finish off our art pieces through comparing artists from different Islands. We looked at the work of Steven Brown (our Island) and the art work of Reina Cottier (New-Zealand ). Our New Zealand inspired art  are all Mauri and ocean inspired.

We also played a game of Bench ball with Mrs McGlynn during our indoor PE slot this week.

We are hoping to start with Scottish Country dancing next, so remember those dancing shoes!

We have also started on our Desperate Journey to find out more about Highland Clearances for this terms topic.

Have a great weekend!

Primary 5 Learning

This week in Primary 5

In our topic we learned about deforestation.

– “If people cut down lots of trees then there will be less oxygen.” Neive

– “People are cutting trees down just for the money” Jack G

-“It is destroying animal’s habitats.” Jay

In maths we have been practising our 3 and 4 times table. We have have also been assessing our work from last term.

-The squares were looking at formal division.

-The triangles were working on time. “If the big hand is pointing at the 9 and the small hand is pointing at the 2 it is quarter to 2” Jack C

-The circles have been learning to divide by 2 and 5.

This week we were writing a report about the rainforest.

-“We need an introduction at the start.” Sasha

-“You need subheadings to tell the reader what each section will be about.” Layla

We also had lots of fun making some spooky spiders for halloween!

Our Week in Primary 3

It has been a busy and amazing week in class (we have been learning all about adjectives).

We have continued work on place value, using tens and units to solve problems. We use concrete materials and pictures to challenge ourselves.

For writing we have started looking at reports and will begin our first newspaper report next week. We focussed on the ‘5W’ questions to help plan our report (who/what/where/why/when).

We have been busy doing some art for Halloween and have designed our own spooky haunted houses.

We have been using as many adjectives as we can and have managed to use lots of these around the school as we even thought about adjectives to describe our playground during our daily mile.

In PE we have been practising throwing, catching and some football skills too.

We hope you have a lovely (and spooky) Halloween weekend.
