Dates for your diary – Blackburn Gala Day

Blackburn’s got talent : Friday 24th May 7pm in Blackburn Partnership Centre

(Children selected must live in Blackburn)

School relay – Sunday 2nd June 12 noon at Blackburn juniors park: 

Four pupils from P6 and P7 – relay race

Blackburn interschool quiz – Tuesday 4th June at 6.30pm at Murrayfield:

One child from P3, P4, P5, P6 and P7 to take part in the quiz

Gala day – Saturday 8th June 11.30am

Author Visit P4-7

On Monday 13th May Matthew Fitt a Scottish author will be visiting Murrayfield to present a workshop to all of the children in P4-7 about writing in Scots language. We would like to invite parents and carers along to the event at 9.15am in the hall where you can watch the workshop and then stay afterwards to join the children in classes to complete a follow up activity. The children have been writing persuasive letters to take home which will go home on Wednesday next week.

P1-3 Author Visit – Wednesday 8th May

Using funding from the Scottish Book Trust we have been able to invite Scottish illustrator Kate Leiper to school on Wednesday 8th May at 9.30am. Kate will present an hour workshop with the children from P1-3 about her books and will be giving them tips on how to draw and illustrate their own stories.

We would like to invite parents and carers to the event to see her presentation with the children. Please come to the school main entrance for 9.30am. Look out for invitations from your child this week.

 

Welcome Back from P5/4

We hope that everyone had a super Easter and are ready learn in Term 4.

We have been working hard on our Newspaper Reports about our Easter Holidays.  In Numeracy we started working on Fractions.  This week in RME we have had three lessons about Christianity from Miss Calder, Mrs Craig and Mrs Glancy.  We are looking forward to our Judasim lessons next week.

P7/6 news

P7/6 used co-ordinates to locate  and plot objects within a grid during Numeracy.

We have started with research on our Author who will be visiting us soon and are preparing to write a persuasive piece of text using the notes we have made.

This week P7/6 learners worked hard using comprehension skills to create and build an Easter Garden during RME.

We hope that everyone had a great Easter and are feeling well rested and ready for the last leg of learning until summer.

 

P5 Last Week

News from P5/4

Primary 5/4 have been working very hard on their imaginative writing.  This week we focused on a toy which came alive.  We used clips from the Toy Story films to help us.

In Numeracy we worked on place value with numbers up to 100 000.

In topic we designed and painted our own Mythical creature.

In science we have been monitoring the growth of our onions and grass. Look at the results so far:

What have we been learning this week?

We have been learning estimating with Mrs Stewart – Laiba

We have been learning about Tally Marks and Pictograms – Lucy

We played games on Education city to help us with tally marks – Scott

We have been learning about animal Habitats in Science – Adam

We were writing a poem about My Senses – Jay

We were learning about FEAR in our Emotions – Sophie

We were writing stories about a Magic Key – Scott

The dogs were subtracting 2 digit numbers – Ollie

In Assembly Mrs Bruce announced the winners for the lolly pop stick Book Characters –

Laiba won the class prize! She won a book, notepad and a pen!

Runners up were Lily Moore and Lewis Walker – they won a certificate and a bookmark.

Well done !!!!!

The squares have been making their own number lines to 20 – Sophie

In Art we made a flower called a crocus – Laiba

This Week Head Teachers Awards went to
