P 5/4 News.

We have been very busy over the last few weeks in P 5/4.
We have been practicing Fractions and Word Problems, discussing our school values and rehearsing for our Fairtrade Assembly, which is this Friday.

I hope you all have a lovely week.

Your guide to the social networks your kids use

Stay up to date and keep your child safe in today’s digital world

Please note that the link to this site has been added to the Websites for Parents section of the Blog.

The recently launched website https://www.net-aware.org.uk/ gives detailed advice and reviews of the different online social networks which young people use. It covers over 50 different apps including popular apps like Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat to lesser known apps such as Kik, Roblox and Musical.ly. It reviews the levels of risk associated with each app and also includes the views of different young people about each app and how safe they feel using it.

Keeping yourself informed helps you to keep your children safe!

P7/6 Literacy Time

P7/6 and P1 had a lovely half hour yesterday afternoon reading books together in class. The p1’s were given a reading buddy, chose a book from the library, and then settled down to listen and discuss the book they chose with their buddy. It was such a lovely atmosphere and wonderful to listen too.

Here are some photos. Some of the p6’s and p7’s now have friends for life 🙂

P7 News

Primary Seven have been extremely busy this week working on The Jungle Book show with P6 and P7/6 pupils.  We are pleased to report the scenes are coming along well.  This week we have been having reading scripts, learning lines and singing songs with the backing tracks, trying hard to project our voices to be heard and learning to act in different roles.

In class, we had a WW2 handling artefacts session with Maureen Liddle. We were all interested, but shocked by the amount of ounces/grams of rations each person was allocated per week. It was great to be able to look and touch Ration books, suitcases, clothing and other items from 1940’s.  It has made the topic very meaningful.

We have also become evacuees and discussed what it felt like to be going away from home from our parents. Researching using laptops has given us more information about evacuees experiences.  We are hoping to transfer our knowledge into our writing through creating personal imaginative letters home to parents.

Remember next week we need to dress up as a book character on Thursday 1st March.  I look forward to identifying each book character who attends my class on that day 🙂

P7/6 News

Dear Parents and Carers,

P7/6 have been very busy working on their school show this week and it has been going tremendously well. I am so proud of all the children’s hard work and dedication. Only 2 weeks until the main event so keep up the great work guys!

Mrs Harrison, Mrs Sneddon and myself have sent out a letter today in regards to costumes for the show. Please do not feel you have to buy anything new for this but Primark, Asda, Tesco etc sell very cheap t-shirts if  and only if you want to. We have tried to keep costumes simple and the likely hood of items being already in wardrobes and cupboards at home. If your child has not received a letter this is because we will be providing them with costumes through school funds. We will also be making masks and headdresses in class for animals and jungle which should be completed by next week.

Further rehearsals will take place next week. As this is such a busy time I shall continue to do reading homework but will stop spelling and word boost until the show is finished. The children can practise song singing and learning their lines if they have a main part.

Thank you so much for all your continued support through this busy time. The show is going to be amazing!!

P6 & P7 Camp – Dounans Residential Trip

There will be a parent information session on Wednesday 28th February at 3.40pm.  This is an opportunity to hear a little more about this year’s residential activity week and to discuss any questions, queries or concerns you may have.  We hope you can make it along, however don’t worry if you can’t as you can contact the school directly to discuss any important issues.

The pupils attending this year’s camp will bring home a pack on Monday which contains important information regarding suggested clothing/ equipment and forms that must be completed, signed and returned by Friday 23rd February.  These forms will provide vital information regarding medical/ dietary requirements and must be returned in time for the relevant paperwork to be completed and sent to Dounans prior to us attending the activity centre.

Please note all bedding is provided and clothes can become very muddy/ wet during the activities, so pack old/ warm clothes where possible rather than buying new items to take along.

Dounans have been in contact and are finalising the weeks activity programme so we should have an idea of what types of activities will be available and can share this with you on 28th.
