Alien Challenge

As part of our topic on space, we have read  ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ a rhyming story by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort.

Your challenge is to design and make a model of an alien in underpants!

Your alien needs to be able to stand on its own, be wearing a pair of pants designed by you and your child and be clearly marked with your child’s name.

We hope you have fun!!

Nursery Class newsletter

Last term we were learning about minibeasts. Part of this topic was to learn about lifecycles and we learned that caterpillars change in to butterflies. The staff had hoped to be able to get live caterpillars in the nursery to watch their metamorphosis but as we still had snow we had to wait until the weather was warmer. We are pleased to announce that our caterpillars have arrived. Please feel free to pop in to the nursery with your child at the end of sessions to have a look. We are taking pictures of them every day so we can record the change in their appearance.

Learning About Sky and Space

The children have had great fun role playing in our space craft, looking at our world by exploring maps and globes and even eating space food! We have talked about the things we do in the daytime and night time and created wonderful planets using bubble painting. The children used their knowledge of 3D objects to print space buggies and designed fantastic pants!  Our challenge this year is to design and make an alien in underpants and the children are already telling the staff about the fun they are having making them! We hope you all are having fun!

Traditional Tales

This term we are learning about the characters and events in stories by reading and listening to a selection of traditional tales. We have explored the ‘Three Billy Goats Gruff’ and had great fun re-telling the story using our puppets, making bridges for the Billy Goats to cross and making a scary troll and goats for our wall display which has helped us to learn about size. We have been talking about why the troll was so mean and thinking about what would make him happy.

Pre-school Transition Visits

Our pre-schoolers have started their transition topic, ‘Teddy Bear’s Picnic’ and will have regular visits to the school on Wednesdays for the next six weeks.  To get the most from this topic we hope all pre-school children will be able to attend promptly on these days.

Comenius Visitors

Murrayfield Primary School welcomed teaching staff from across Europe as part of the British Council Comenius Project.  Primary 7 pupils escorted the visitors around our school on a ‘Learning Walk’.  The visitors from Austria, Bulgaria, Italy and Poland were very impressed by all pupils and learned lots about Curriculum for Excellence and the Scottish Education system.
