We were joined in the Language Centre by our friends from the P1 classes yesterday. Together we learnt more about where pumpkins grow and compared their colours and sizes using Clicker. Next we sequenced picture cards to learn how to carve a pumpkin. The fun part was scooping out the flesh and seeds and carving a face into the pumpkin flesh. Finally we sang a song together about pumpkins before enjoying some pumpkin soup at snack time.

Looking after pets – Guinea Pigs
The P2/1 class have been focussing on learning how to care for guinea pigs this week. Our starting point was the story ‘The Three Little Guinea Pigs’. We used the internet to find out more information on their likes and dislikes. Next we applied what we had learnt by making our own guinea pigs using modelling clay talking about the size, weight and characteristics of different types of guinea pigs. Finally we reflected on our favourite part of the the story and used our sound system to write about our reflections.
P1 make a great start!
Our new Primary 1 children have made a great start to learning at the Language Centre. They have been focussing on making the m and c sounds and with their new P2 friends in class using baby photos to talk to their families about how they have grown and changed, learning the names of body parts and using their senses to smell, touch and taste new foods at snack time.
Animal Life Cycles
The P2/1 class have been learning the nouns, verbs and adjectives needed to understand and explain the life cycle of the frog. We really enjoyed recording our explanations on Audacity and listening back to our voices.
On the Farm
P2/1 recently visited Mill Farm to meet all the new Spring arrivals. We are able to confidently use the names of adult animals and their babies. We used our sound system to recount what we saw on the trip and wrote a short report. We have also created a Farm Shop in the Play Room and enjoy selling the produce during stuctured play on a Thursday afternoon. Our next step is to talk about the life cycle of the animals we saw at Mill Farm.
