Our First Week in P7

P7 have had a great first week. We have been working hard with our buddies and have enjoyed supporting and helping them with getting organised for school.

We have also been learning about different genres of music and have started learning about Rock and Roll this week which has been very interesting. Please make sure your child is prepared for their homework task which is due in next Friday 🙂

As you can see from the photos we have also been busy bees and created our class charter. It is lovely and colourful-just the way Miss Moir likes it 🙂

P6 Assembly :)

Good Morning Parents and Carers

Just a little reminder that P6 will be holding their topic assembly tomorrow (Friday 24th June). It is going to be fun, filled with information and a little bit silly 🙂

Hope you can make it.

P6 News!

This week in P6 the children have started their Time topic in Numeracy and have been playing some mental maths games.

In Literacy we have been continuing our learning from last week and have been looking at figurative language. The boys and girls wrote about A Haunted House and had to include descriptive language as well as personification, onomatopoeia, alliteration, similes and metaphors to make their writing more interesting and come to life. The children then self assessed their work for their next steps. Some of the stories were very scary and created a spooky atmosphere.

In Topic we have been continuing The Human Body and have been learning about The Brain. The children also created PowerPoint presentations on a chosen organ they have learned about which I hope to upload onto the blog when they are finished.

Have a lovely weekend:)

Hope the sun is still shining!

Cross Country

Last Thursday a group of 17 P6 children represented Murrayfield at a Cluster Cross Country event. It was a beautiful day and the group had lots of fun taking part in the race and playing in the park. Although both groups came last, the children were excellent team players and supported one another during the race. They also felt that the running was very hard work, particularly up the very steep hill.

Well done those who took part!

News in P6

Hi Everyone,

This week we visited Peat Moss to collect sticks and stones for our Human Body Topic. We then took these back to school and created twig skeletons. Have a look at the pictures and you can decide which is the best one 🙂 We also used this idea to put the bones of a skeleton back together and name the correct bones.

In Maths we have been learning about kilograms and grams and have been weighing different items. This has been a fun lesson to take part in.

Through our science we have been learning about the digestive system and we took part in an experiment which involved using digestive biscuits and orange juice. It was a bit messy and some of the boys were disgusted by the outcome. We then wrote up science reports to discuss what we did, step by step.

In Literacy we were doing alliteration and we had to write our own Tongue Twisters. We also looked at personification which you associate an object as a person, such as Dancing Table.

A very busy and fun week had by all 🙂

P6 News

P6 would like to welcome Miss Coyne in their classroom for the next few weeks. She has come to see the pupils of Murrayfield and see how we work as a school. She will be working in P6 until the end of May and has already taught some fantastic lessons with the class. Keep it up p6!

This week in P6, we have been learning about:

  • Measure, perimeter and shape through Numeracy
  • Onomatopoeia through Literacy (that’s a word that sounds like a noise, such as BANG, CRASH, WHOOSH)
  • Skeletons, bones, invertebrates and vertebrates in topic and
  • We completed the Bleep test in P.E. It was hard 🙂

Have a lovely weekend. remember the school is closed to children on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday this week due to a local holiday and Voting.

Blackburn Football Festival

A group of p6 and p7 boys and girls took part in an after schools football game with Blackburn cluster schools last week. The team played very well and played with good sportsmanship within their team and with the other schools involved. Although scores were not kept the children had a fantastic time and are looking forward to the next game which is on the 31st of May straight after school at the community center.

Here are some photos of the event 🙂

P6 Class Visitor

P6, P7 and P6/7 had the wonder opportunity to be visited by Tom Gordon, who works at Edinburgh Castle Museum. The children were given an excellent talk about the home guard during WW2 and where allowed to try on and handle several WW2 clothes and artefacts. The class really enjoyed this experience and had fun ringing the alarm bell which was very loud indeed 🙂

Here are some photos of their experience.

Enjoy 🙂
