P6

We have worked hard this week on researching UK landmarks. We used the information to create power point slides to showcase our learning and learn form our friends at the same time.

We have been exploring the industries that support our Scottish Islands economies. Some of these include agriculture, forestry, tourism and wildlife.

Everyone enjoyed the Masterclasses on Thursday learning about cities from around the world. We had Cape Town, Washington, New York, Hong Kong, Edinburgh, Rome and Moscow.

P6 voted for their star of the week this week providing evidence for their choice. I am delighted to announce that we have a tie! Congratulations to Emma and Anna for being our stars of the week.

A busy week in P6 this week.

We had the pleasure to work with Mrs Linscer from the language center this week on Visualizing and Verbalizing. Visualizing and Verbalizing will help us become better writers.

In Numeracy we are looking at place value and can read numbers up to a Million.

We are exploring measure and are excited to learn more about the different ways in which we measure.

P5 News

The boys and girls have been working very hard this week on writing a mini saga all about crazy creatures! We are hoping to enter our saga’s in to the young writers competition.

We have been given a fantastic opportunity through the library to work on 3D computer designing. We all had great fun and our designs will be printed in 3D! A big thank you to Blackburn library for this fantastic opportunity.

This week we had our final week of music and technology with the wonderful Jess. We have learned so much about creating and making sound clips and can’t wait to share our final animation and sound clip with everyone.

We are working hard on Division and Fractions have realized that they are linked!

PE this week we working on running hurdles! It was exhausting work but great fun at the same time.

In literacy we are working towards creating a piece of imaginative writing through building on all the various parts of writing.

P5s News This Week

This week we have:

  • Worked on using our poetic techniques when writing poems.
  • We worked on using a variety of different strategies when doubling and halving.
  • We used bar graphs to interpret and gather information in order to answer questions.
  • Working with Jess this week during music and technology we had the opportunity to create our own theme tune for an animation using fruit and makey-makey.
  • In PE we were working on our volleyball skills.

News from P5

  • We had great fun this week using mirrors to create symmetrical pictures.
  • P5 are very fortunate to be part of a 5 week project looking at sound, music and movement , through the use of technology with the help Jessica Aslan. P5 really enjoyed getting familiar with the equipment we will be using and recording sounds.
  • A massive THANK YOU to all the children who have brought their human body projects into school. The amount of effort is astounding and very much appreciated. They are all fantastic.
  • We have started with Division and are all very excited to learn new strategies to help us on this journey.

P5 worked on creating their learning pit display and all look forward to sharing this with their parents during parents evening this week.

We worked in teams to create skeletons through using our knowledge of the various names of the bones in the skeleton.

Did you know we have 300 bones when we are born but on 206 when we are fully grown?

P5 tried their hand at drawing skeletons through using Bo -jangles as a model (still life)

We used our knowledge of mathematical language to describe 3D shapes to our friends using terms such as faces, vertexes, base and edge.

A huge congratulations to Lana Campbell and Brandon Harkins for being runners up in the Year of Robotics design competition.

News From P5

  • We had a skateboarding taster session and everyone enjoyed it a lot!!
  • We painted our rocks from Ms Macrae gave and every one of them is beautiful.
  • This week saw the start of our science topics my body and electricity. There is much excitement about these topics.
  • P5 created a handwriting practice sheet for a younger target audience and they all worked very hard on these. Picture of completed worksheet will follow.
  • We all got logins for education city, a learning website for primary schools, and everyone is really enjoying using this great resource to build on learning.
  • This week we explored 3D shapes and broadened our mathematical language through describing our shapes using words such as faces, base, vertices and edges.

  • We had great fun going to library today and are exited to read our books.
  • P5 worked hard on their newspaper articles this week and we are all aware that this is work in progress.
  • The boys and girls have all worked hard on their 6x and 7x tables.
  • We have started exploring 2D and 3D shapes and hope to learn more about these.
  • All the P5’s have received their login details for Education City and had the opportunity to explore this fantastic resource.
  • We looked at non- fiction books during guided reading this week. Some very interesting facts and information.
  • As promised some pictures form our healthy sandwiches.

P5 news

This week saw the final lesson on Scottish country dancing with P5/4. The children all enjoyed learning these dances and did a fantastic job in remembering all the steps. This was a great way to work on our Scottish heritage, rhythm and team work.

The children had great fun at their respective masterclasses. Please watch this space for some photos.
