Sports Day 2018

Great sportmanship shown by the pupils today! We were fortunate to have the sports before the rain arrived in the afternoon!  Well done to everyone who took part and to the winners of the races.

The winning house : Wallace 🙂

Well done to all the Wallace house pupils!

National Digital Learning Week at Murrayfield Primary

Last week the pupils of P7 used a variety of devices and tools to enhance their learning.

We had fun using binary code to decipher our names and learning to use code.org to programme directions for simple tasks.

We also had the opportunity to teach pupils in P4, P5/4 and P5 about accessing Sumdog, setting up and playing Prodigy maths games and demonstrating different aspects of creating a Powerpoint.

Den Building in the sun

The Den Building groups have so far been challenged to work outdoors in snow, hail, fog and finally, today we were gifted with sunshine!

The pupils from the Stewart House worked together to have fun and develop skills in team work, communication, problem solving and decision making.  They made use of pallets, tarpaulins, camouflage nets, trees branches and canes to build reading dens.

Outdoor learning experiences motivate our children and young people to become successful learners and to develop as healthy, confident, enterprising and responsible citizens.

P7 Pupil Learning Conversations

The pupils were set a variety of literacy and numeracy homework activities this week.  This morning in class we shared our work and discussed different strategies used to help us learn. The pupils developed skills in peer assessment, communication and problem solving.

Support your child at home with their homework to help them share their strategies in class.

Happy Easter from P7

We accompanied the whole school to the local church in Blackburn to enjoy a fantastic drama presented by The LightHouse Club.  We enjoyed walking to and from the church with our P1 buddies.  Last Easter service as part of Murrayfield Primary for the P7 pupils!! One more term and we’re moving on.  Happy Easter to all!  See you all on Monday 9th April, ready for a busy term focusing on the transition to Secondary School 🙂

Creating Sculptures in class and outdoors using different materials

The pupils who have chosen to stay in school, while the happy campers are away are having lots of fun learning experiences too!

The pupils were learning about the art of sculpture by exploring different artists, such as Andy Scott and Antony Gormley.  They were then challenged to use playdough to create animals sculptures and playing cards to build tall structures. We also went outside and used natural materials to try to create our own animal sculptures.

Snow Sculpture Book Characters

Sadly World Book day has passed and we didn’t get to share our wonderful outfits in the classroom, however we’re having the perfect weather to snuggle up with a good book. I’m busy switching between reading The Racehorse Who Wouldn’t Gallop by Clare Balding and Refugee by Alan Gratz, both books kindly lent to me by pupils in our class. What book are you reading? Remember this week’s homework  – you were asked to bring in a book you’ve read recently for writing a book review on.  We’ll do this when we get back to class, but please let me know what you’ve been reading while off.  What part has intrigued you most about your book?

You could be creative and complete Artistic Ace in the snow!  Can you guess which book inspired my character sculpture of a spider (with a little building help from my child)? I was going to dress as Fern for World Book Day.
