Week Two in P6/5

This week in P6/5 we have been focusing on ‘Make It Grow’ enterprise ideas and have written our first drafts of letters to Ms Macrae requesting our donation of ten pounds. We are considering ideas such as a holding a sports tournament, creating Pokémon card games, decorating biscuits and a movie afternoon for pupils. We hope everyone will support our attempts to raise money for our class.

Our class charter is based on ‘Pokémon Go’ – We’re Going places in our learning!  Each pupil designed their own Pokémon trading card and for achievements in learning, they will gain a rainbow Pokeball. A Pokeball recognises individual pupils that have worked hard throughout the week.

The children were set their first piece of homework and most produced great results. They researched Olympics athletes or Paralympic athletes who have overcome challenges to succeed in their sport.  Many of the athletes demonstrate great determination and hopefully will inspire us not to give up!  Thank you to all the parents or carers for helping the children complete their homework.

Homework will be given out on Mondays and should be returned on Thursdays completed and signed.

Gym days will be on Mondays and Tuesdays.  Please ensure your child comes appropriately prepared for indoor and outdoor gym.

P6/5 had an amazing week at school! P6/5 said they love their new teacher Mrs Harrison 🙂

The pupils of Primary 6/5 have had a great first week back to school.

This week’s learning focused on getting to know one another, classroom organisation and expectations for the year. We have enjoyed playing a variety of games and participating in group challenges.  The favourite challenge of the week seemed to be working in pairs or trios to create the longest paper chain they could from one A3 piece of paper. I’m sure you’ll agree from the pictures, the children excelled in the challenge! Well done P6/5!

In Art, the children were inspired by Paul Klee’s ‘The Blue Night Sky’ to create their own fantastic pictures using their own names. I’m looking forward to displaying them in the classroom. I hope you can manage to meet on the teacher on Wednesday 31st August, where you will have an opportunity to view their work.

We also had an interesting discussion on the Perfect Pupil and Terrific Teacher – with all the groups expecting every individual in the class to be respectful, kind, hard working and encouraging towards each other.  Hopefully all parents and carers can help their child to strive towards these values throughout the year!

The class charter is yet to be created, but we’re well on our way with developing ideas on the best way to display the rights and rules of the classroom. Watch this space for a photo of either an Olympic or Pokemon themed charter.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Learning in Primary Seven

The Risk Factory

Primary Seven pupils went on a trip on Wednesday 25th May to The Risk Factory to develop skills in identifying risks and to learn strategies to avoid them.  The pupils had lots of fun taking part in the different scenarios, with many pupils declaring it was the best trip ever! Their emotions and common sense attitudes were challenged, with many having to learn serious consequences for their actions! We can’t reveal too much information or show photos about the scenarios because it would spoil the fun for next year’s Primary Six!

Africa

We started our new topic this week by focusing on the range of climates in Africa. The pupils paired up and used their research skills to learn about about typical features of a desert, rainforest, savannah or shrub land. We also used pastels and pens to create fantastic tribal art work based on the Ndebele people of Zimbabwe. The Ndebele tribe paint colourful geometric symbols on their houses and walls.

French Transition – Story Telling Project

The Primary Seven have been busy working in groups to write and rehearse the telling of fairy tales in French. We are hoping to record them next week and send them up the Academy as part of our transition work.

Online Journals

We are LIVE!

The online journals are now accessible for parents and carers.  Please check your emails for a username and link to access your child’s online journal. The nursery team have been working hard to establish each child’s online profile and intend to build on them with continous quality observations throughout the year. We hope you enjoy finding out about the learning experiences and progress your child has during their time at nursery.  The nursery team would greatly appreciate parents and carers recording comments alongside the observations.
