On Friday, the PSA help our annual Spring Fair, there was a great turn out from parents, family, staff and pupils and we managed to raise the grand total of £1,386.41. A big thank you to all who attended and supported the event, and thank you to the PSA for organising.

WCHS Anti-Bullying Visit

Four sixth year pupils and a science teacher from West Calder High School visited P7s on Monday. They came to talk about transition and their role as school mentors. They talked about cyber bullying and from the photograph above you can see Ruby as a mobile phone!
Three of the students are ex-pupils of MCPS and it was lovely to see them again.

Almondell Party

In Term 3 Almondell won the House Cup. Andi and Keigan decided they would like to plan a party for their house. Andy planned a game of corners, then some refreshments and dancing games. Ellie brouhgt her candy floss machine in and made everyone in the house candy floss.

Well done girls for planning such a fab party and thank you to all the Primary 7s that helped!

In our groups we are creating a fact file for primary 5-7 pupils explaining a type of social media and how they can keep themselves safe if they are using it.

We are learning how to safely use technology to communicate with others.
We are learning to consider the impact that layout and presentation have in engaging the audience with a fact file.
We are learning to work as part of a group.

A successful fact file will have:

information about the site
information on how to keep safe using this site

First we researched the key questions from the success criteria using the NSPCC website: Netaware. We would recommend parents look at this website to find out information about social media. Next we planned what our fact file would look like, ensuring we included the success criteria. Today we started making our fact files, watch this space for the final product!

P2/1’s ‘Healthy Bodies’ Assembly

It was a very special day on Friday when P2/1 had the opportunity to showcase their learning to parents, carers and peers in our ‘Healthy Bodies’ class assembly.

P2/1 have been learning lots about how to keep their bodies healthy and strong. We have learned about food types and diet, as well as our bodies’ organs and skeleton. We know that exercise is an important way to keep our bodies healthy and strong and we enjoyed sharing our hobbies and the sports we play with others.

All of us had a part to play and lines to learn for our performance to an audience. We all did ourselves, our class and visitors very proud by readily learning our parts and performing them with confidence. We can happily say that we are each building on and showing our capacity to be ‘Effective Contributors’ and ‘Confident Individuals’.

Well done everyone! Thank you to our audience for such positive comments, we hope you all enjoyed it.

eTwinning’s 10th Birthday

On Thursday, 7th May eTwinning celebrated its tenth anniversary. As the children were off because of the General Election, we celebrated on Friday instead. P7 have two eTwinning projects, one with a school in the Basque Country, Spain and one in France. British Council gave a t-shirt and furry logo to all the pupils involved in a project in 2015.

At the assembly on Friday we also were awarded the Goblet of Good Manners. Go P7!

Pizza Fun

This week Primary 1 visited Pizza Express to make their very own pizzas.

We all travelled together on the coach which was a great experience, and gave us lots to talk about.

When we arrived we washed our hands and put on an apron and a hat.

Then we started to make a pizza.

First, we used our hands to squash the dough into a circle shape, and then most of us had a go at flipping it from hand to hand before throwing it up in the air and catching it! This helped to make the pizza base a little bit bigger, and soon it was ready to put in a pan. A large dollop of tomato sauce was added, and by tapping around the edge of the pan it was soon spread all over the base. Next, we added a variety of toppings. Now the pizzas were beginning to look really tasty!

We sat down at the tables and were offered a choice of orange juice, blackcurrant juice or water.

After cooking for a while in the oven, the finished pizzas were brought out to us, and we were able to enjoy a slice. We had made a really good job of the pizzas, so it was a delicious snack!

Finally we closed the boxes, and took the pizzas back to school, ready to take home and share with our families.

What a great morning we had!

Primary 1 have been learning how to look at a map of the local area and recognise features such as a road, a river, a wood and different kinds of buildings. The children were all very keen to identify these familiar places, and we had lots of interesting discussion about what we could see.

Next, we decided to look at a map of the Isle of Struay, and compare it to our local area. It was very exciting to discover that some things were similar to the area where we live, but some things were quite different. We were particularly interested to discover that Struay has a castle, a golf course and lighthouses !

One thing that intrigued us was the compass that was shown on the map. Now we would like to learn a little bit more about this. For instance –

What does a real compass look like?
Who uses a compass?
How does it work?
