Lights, Camera, Action

Today we turned the upper area into a movie theatre, where only the best actors, directors and cameramen were invited. The children have been working hard to create their own blockbuster movies featuring either, Dizzy, Fluffy or Spike. Each group focused on the three C’s and S’s…….colour, character, camera and sound, story and setting and today was the day where they showcased their talents.  Showing in our cinema was, London Crisis, Spike Bond and Fluffy Dimension, to name but a few, however there could only be 3 winners. Each child voted for the movie they felt demonstrated the skills that we had been learning in class, portrayed a good storyline and also made us laugh.  And the winners were…….

Well done to everyone on completing their film. It was evident, from the movies, that the children has used a lot of what they had learned throughout their topic and that they thoroughly enjoyed making their own movies. Internet Safety in P1a

Last week as part of Internet Safety Week, P1a spent some time talking about the computers, laptops, tablets etc that we use at school and at home. We discussed how we  use them for different purposes such as research or playing games, and how we sometimes use the Internet to do these things. We also talked about the importance of looking after our devices, and taking care when we handle them. The next day we began exploring different types of Personal Information and we discussed whether or not we would share this with others, especially with people we don’t know. Then, we related this to keeping ourselves safe online by watching and discussing a short cartoon called ‘Hector’s World’.

 

Stay Safe, Be Smart!

Last week, P3 and P3/2 joined together to think about how we could be safe on the internet for Safer Internet Day 2016. As a group, we looked into Hector’s World and discussed and shared some of the main ideas of internet safety such as;

  • Keep safe and keep your personal information private
  • Read the terms and conditions
  • Ask an adult you trust for permission before going on any website/putting in any details
  • Always check if information on a website is safe and true

Staying Safe Online

On Thursday, as part of internet safety week, P4 took part in activities about staying safe on the internet. We looked at the types of messages that can be sent to people online and got into groups to discuss how they made us feel. Our feelings ranged from curious to angry.

We watched some films that showed how photographs we put up online can get used by different people and we learnt how to block people we don’t know and how to report things we weren’t sure about.

Finally we got into our house groups and made posters about how to stay safe online.

We know lots of tips about staying safe, ask  us for our advice!

Be smart, Be like P7/6

This week P7/6 were learning about how to be safe on the internet. We used the Be like Bill concept and made up our own to create the perfect internet safety pupil.

This is P7/6.

We don’t post personal information on the internet.

We keep our password private and don’t talk to people we don’t know.

We don’t post photos of other people without their permission.

We are kind to our friends and don’t post cruel comments. We don’t post when we are going on holiday.

P7/6 are smart.

P7 Internet Safety

On Tuesday the 9th of February it was Internet Safety Day. P7 took part in some activities based on Internet Safety. Miss Anderson gave us some cards with actions on them such as, you are annoyed, disagree with everyone, you are sad, agree with everyone. We then had to walk around the classroom and when someone spoke to you we had to act them out to create the online feel. Miss Anderson then showed us some online messages and comments,we then had to go to the emotion that it made us feel; upset, happy, curious, laugh it off, not bothered, angry and worried. We then discussed why the messaged made us feel a certain way. Finally we watched a video about the ‘Magna Carter’ ( a document that establishes the principle that everyone is subject to the law) of online rules. As a class we then thought about what rules we would like to see the internet have to ensure that everyone is safe online.

Safer Internet Day in P5

 

Learning Intention: We are learning how to stay safe online

Success Criteria: I can discuss the positive aspects of the internet and how I use it to help me learn

I can discuss the problems/dangers I might face online and how I might overcome these

I can create a poster to give hints and tips about how to stay safe online

To celebrate Safer Internet Day 2016, Primary 5 have been exploring some of the positive and negative aspects of the internet. We shared how we use the internet to help us with our learning, as well as using it to play online games and to stay in touch with our friends. We then discussed the dangers we might face when using the internet, and some of the ways we might overcome those to keep ourselves safe. We watched a video that highlighted the importance of keeping personal details about ourselves private online, and making sure that we only share information and pictures with the people we know and trust.  We then used this to help us to create a poster about online safety. We entered these posters into a West Lothian competition with the hope of being chosen to have our poster used to promote internet safety across the authority.

We also looked at Safer Internet Day’s campaign, ‘Play your part and share a heart.’ We discussed the issue of cyber bullying and how this can affect people, then decided to go on our school blog and #shareaheart by saying nice things about the learning and achievements in our school. At home, we also decided to share gifts with our friends on Sumdog, help each other to advance in games on Xbox, and we posted positive comments on a variety of different websites to make people feel good.

P6 Internet Safety Aware!

Primary 6 have focused on developing our awareness of how to be safe online.

Learning Intention:

We are learning to identify online internet safety issues

Success Criteria.

We can identify a variety of strategies available to us to keep safe online.

We can identify where to go to report online issues

We can use websites to access information and use guidance in an appropriate way.

During our Health sessions, we investigated CEOP and what it means for children who use the internet, whether using a PS4, an iPad or another device.

We used “Think You Know” to examine different advice about how we can keep ourselves safe.  We participated in a mature and responsible discussion about known issues and how we can talk to a trusted adult about online written abuse or content which is in appropriate.

We created keeping safe online posters to highlight the issue further, making sure that we used the icon for CEOP as a way of reporting internet content.

Internet safety Day in Primary 1b

To celebrate Internet Safety Day, Primary 1b have been exploring how to stay safe online. We watched a very interesting cartoon called ‘Hector’s World’ which helped us to understand what types of personal information are safe or not safe to share online. After watching and discussing the cartoon, we demonstrated what we had learned through an activity. Brandon held up a ‘yes’ sign, and Finlay held up a ‘no’ sign. The children had to respond to the following questions by running to the correct sign.

The children all answered ‘no’.

We all agreed that the only information we would share online would be a nickname. To help us remember, we worked in pairs to create silly nicknames for each other.

Parental Information: Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day 2016 – Friday 12th February at the new Bathgate Cinema
West Lothian Council is inviting parents and carers to meet industry experts on internet safety, at the end of a week in which information on keeping children safe online will be promoted through the Council’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, in support of Safer Internet Day 2016.

What is Safer Internet Day?
Globally, Safer Internet Day involves over a hundred countries, and is supported by the European Commission and national Safer Internet Centres across Europe. In West Lothian, an event is being hosted at the new Bathgate Cinema offering advice on setting parental controls on any kind of device, from technology industry experts.

What will be happening on the day?
Police Scotland’s School Link Officers will introduce and provide commentary on the CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection) films, giving parents and carers first-hand experience of the internet safety lessons pupils receive in school.

The CEOP film screenings will take place at a free event at the new Bathgate Cinema (formerly St. David’s Church, George Street) on Friday 12 February from 10:00 to 12:00.

Not to be confused with the Regal Community Theatre, the new Bathgate Cinema is in St. David’s Church on the pedestrian precinct in Bathgate, opposite Boots.

The event is free and open to everyone.

Expert advice will then be offered at information stalls from 12 noon until 3pm, with representatives including staff from retailer Game, Vodafone, and Police Scotland.
