Euroquiz

Last Friday, four pupils from Primary 6 – Aiden, Matilda, Calum and Erin – took part in the West Lothian heat for Euroquiz 2017. This took place at Howden Park Centre. The Scottish European Educational Trust runs an annual Euroquiz for P6 pupils, which sees teams of four working together to broaden their knowledge of Europe. Subjects covered include history, geography, sport, culture, languages and the European Union. Our four did us proud with their knowledge, effort and behaviour. They were a credit to the school and all really enjoyed taking part.

Getting Ready for Responsible Roles

Learning intention:

We are learning to complete an application form.

Success Criteria (decided by P6):

I can show my understanding of the role through my answers.

I can write persuasively.

I can use formal language.

I can present my work neatly.

Primary 6 have been thinking ahead to next year and getting ready for taking on their Responsible Roles: Playful Pals, Magical Mediators and Safe Security. We have been learning about what each of these roles entail and have written our application forms ready to pass onto Miss Burton to check over with a fine-tooth comb!

To prepare to write our application forms we read examples and discussed what would should be include in an application. We thought about our previous experiences, specialist knowledge and personal skills. The result was that each application turned out to be very personal and a true reflection of each pupil. We look forward to hearing back from Miss Burton in a few weeks!

MISSING!

L.I. We are learning to select key information from a description.

As part of our STEM topic, ‘KIDNAPPED’, Primary 5 have been helping the police in their search for the missing Green children who have been kidnapped from their home. This week we decided to create some Missing Persons posters to help with the investigation. We revised all the information we already had about the children and the circumstances of their disappearance.

In our investigation groups we discussed the information we had and selected the key points to include in our posters. We agreed that they had to:

  • be eyecatching, to hook people in
  • provide as much accurate information about the children as possible
  • give details of the date and time of the disappearance
  • give an accurate representation of how the children look
  • provide details of who to contact with information

Once we had planned our posters, we got to work in our teams and managed to produce some really eye-catching posters. We are hoping to get permission to display some around the school – look out for them!

P2/1 Castles Evaluation

On Friday P2/1 evaluated their learning about Castles.

We discussed the knowledge we had learned – the information we now know about castles, the skills we developed – the things we did to learn about castles. We also discussed what went well and how it could be even better.

Some of our favourite learning activities included:

  • building castles at home and school
  • visiting Stirling Castle
  • Our Ball in the Hall with our buddies

Profiling Tool

The documents below show what your child will be learning when they are working withing a specific level. This should help you support their learning at home. Our pupils use these profiling tool when they are setting individual and group targets.

P6’s Storytelling Assembly

Well done to Primary 6 for a great assembly today all about storytelling. We have learned a lot about both storytelling and story writing, using what we have learned to write our own fantasy stories. Thank you to all parents and carers who managed to attend. The children enjoyed planning, preparing and presenting their assembly! Here are some videos from the assembly for any parents and carers who couldn’t attend and for the pupils to watch again!

Question Writing in P2/1

We are learning to write a letter asking questions about Stirling Castle.

  • I can use a letter opening and ending.
  • I can use an address.
  • I can use questions with question marks.
  • I can use different question openers.

This week in writing we were learning about questions. We thought ahead to our trip to Stirling Castle and created some questions we would like to ask. We had to use different question openers, for example, who, what, where, when, why and did. We had to remember to use a question mark at the end o our questions. We then wrote a letter to Stirling Castle asking them our questions. Primary 2 had to write an introduction telling them about ourselves. We finished it by self assessing our work against the success criteria.

Someone even received the Living Our Values Award for creating interesting questions.
