Primary 6 break a Guinness World Record

On Thursday 2nd June, Primary 6 pupils traveled to the Almondvale football stadium to participate in a world record attempt.

The attempt was to break the record for the largest Djembe drum ensemble, sustained for five minutes.

After working very hard in our music workshops, we arrived to sit in the front two rows, in our purple baseball caps.  We practiced the different sections and fills.  The noise in the stadium was incredible with over 400 pupils all playing the different rhythms at the same time!

We had lots of pictures and video clips taken from a variety of places, including a drone cam!

After a tense few minutes while the stewards collated their information, Anna from “Officially Amazing” announced to the excited audience that we had broken the world record and sustained the performance for 6 minutes 20 seconds!

We were delighted!  What an amazing experience and we are really looking forward to displaying our certificate proudly in our school.

P5 go Samba wild!

Primary 5 took part in a fantastic music workshop today, with musicians who will perform for us tomorrow at the Catapluf Musical event. We learned about music in Brazil and Uruguay. We used or body to play music, played call and response games and then got the chance to play some of the instruments they had brought along to school.

They were right with their motto – playing music is ‘fun for free’! P5 loved grooving to the music and had smiles on their faces throughout. We are very excited about our adventure tomorrow now!

“Let us play samba, Let us play samba!”

P6 and 7 get musical

Pupils in Primary 6 and 7 have today enjoyed a fantastic music workshop in preparation for visiting Howden Park Centre tomorrow.  Our workshop, led by Jenny, Adriano and Andreas, who are all musicians, was a great opportunity for pupils to develop their rhythmic skills.  We participated in a class “samba” performance using percussion instruments and learned all about how different musical instruments can be played in a variety of ways.  We played some body percussion, call and response and then got the chance to play drums, shakers, wood blocks and the agogo.

Have a look at our class ensemble!!

See You Again

Primary 7 rewrote the lyrics to the song ‘See You Again’ for their Leavers Assembly and performed it for the school and their parents while this slideshow played behind them. The pictures capture the happy times that Primary 7 have shared in their final year at Mid Calder Primary School 🙂
