In p2 we have been learning about the Victorians. Our classroom looks like it has gone back in time to Victorian times. We made house maids and butlers and some rich Victorians. We also enjoyed watching the film Oliver. Just after the Easter holidays we are going to visit Hopetoun House to find out more.

In P6 we were making some Jacobite portraits of King James the 7th. These portraits were quite hard to make as there was lots of detail involved. First we drawed them [step by step] and after that we painted them. My favourite part was when we were drawing them.

In P6 we’ve just started making targes which are shields used by the Jacobites. We are using modroc which is very messy but they’ll look great when they are finished!

Yesterday in P3a we were set a knights protection challenge.
We had to make work in pairs to make an item that a knight would use to protect them self. Some groups made a bow and arrows, a spear, a helmet, a sword or an axe. It was great fun and we enjoyed being creative.

In p5 we have been learning about fractions like 5/10 which means five tenths or a half. We can’t wait to learn more about it. Fractions and dividing are the same thing.

P3a drew and used metallic crayons to create knights in armour to add to the Great Hall wall in our classroom. We looked at lots of pictures of knights in armour to help us.
P1 and the Nursery got together again for their Masterclass. We looked at the words to describe how big and small dinosaurs could be. Then we sorted toy dinosaurs in order according to their size. We made a Dinosaur Parade showing pictures of dinosaurs in order of size. In the afternoon each of the 3 groups had a dinosaur footprint in class and we had to find out how big it was by measuring with our own feet. Each group also made a large picture of a dinosaur, which we will be using to compare the size of our 3 dinosaurs, to see which group had the smallest, which had the medium sized and which had the largest dinosaur.
P7 were scaling recipes up and down, weighing and measuring, converting measurements, working out costs of recipes and percentage profit. We called it Mocktails and Cookies and as the name suggests that’s exactly what we made!
P2 have been learning about lots of different types of patterns which can be found in the world, as well as in number. We looked at patterns in dance and music, and created our own colour patterns to create ‘pop-out’ hand art work, as well as a paper woven tartan. We also looked at why some animals have patterned skins, before creating our own versions of them too. We all had great fun!
