P7 Thursday Camp 2108

Today was our last day on camp. For breakfast we had bacon and potato cakes, juice and cereal .. we had sandwiches for lunch and we haven’t had dinner yet! We went canoeing, crate climbing and completed team problem solving initiatives. We are getting ready for the disco tonight! Here are some of today’s photos.

 

P7 Wednesday Camp 2018

Today we had bacon and sausages for breakfast, with cereals, toast and juice. Then we did the ‘Ropes Challenge’, ‘Tree Climb’ , ‘Abseiling and Orienteering’. For dinner we had Chicken Curry or Risotto, with fruit salad for pudding. We had a fantastic day! Here are our photos!

 

P7 Camp Tuesday 2018

Today was a great day! We had bacon, hash browns, cereal and orange juice for breakfast then we headed off for our first activity. The Blue Group had ‘Zip-wire’ and ‘Archery’ and the Purple Group went ‘Mountain Biking’. Then we had our lunch. After that the Blue Group did the ‘Challenge Course’ and the Purple Group did ‘Orienteering’ and ‘Abseiling’. For dinner we had either Beef Casserole or Tomato Pasta. For pudding we had Chocolate Brownie and Ice cream or just ice cream, It was delicious. Here are some of today’s photos we hope you like them.

Week Beginning the 16th April 2018

This week :

In Literacy –  We created our own piece of writing for the Young Writer competition. Lots of people chose to write a poem using Scots dialect. Katy Murray definitely had the best accent when reading the poems!

In Maths – me used our knowledge of scale to calculate distances on maps. We also investigated 12 and 24 hr time problems.

In Topic – We chose a Japanese recipe and wrote it out together with pictures.  We also investigated the history of green tea.

In Art – We completed our cherry blossom pencil shaded pictures and created a ‘Great Wave’ picture in the same style as the Japanese Artist Hokasai.

We are very excited about camp next week.

 

Week beginning the 9th April 2018

Welcome back to P7. We hope you had a great Easter!

This week

  • We looked at food in Japan and made our own sushi.
  • In Literacy we used the Foxtool to take notes, then we worked in groups to create our own newscript about an earthquake and tsunami in Japan. We are going to make a movie of our newsreport next week.
  • In Maths we found out how to calculate percentages using a calculator. We also investigated scale drawings.
  • In art we created  a ‘front cover’ for the Radio Times Harry and Meghan Wedding competition. We also looked at Japanese symbols and used Sumi brush strokes to create our own symbols.

 

Week beginning the 19th March 2018

Welcome back to our class blog. Sorry we’ve been busy for the past couple of weeks!

We

  • had a visit from the Scottish parliament and found out how to become an MSP!
  • visited the Risk Factory and discovered all different kinds of risks we might experience and how to deal with the risks in the correct way.
  • wrote a story about Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes and  investigated the affect of the atomic bomb on the people of Hiroshima in Japan.
  • worked on percentages.
  • learned about land use and food in Japan especially the importance of the tea ceremony and created our own kimonos.
  • created our own poems on ‘What makes Linlithgow Beautiful’ for the Round table competition.
  • found out about the ‘Stations of the Cross’ and used collage to create our own station of the cross which is now on display at St. Micheal’s church.
  • created bonnets for our Easter Parade , home baking for the Easter Fayre and Easter treats for Sciaf!

It’s been a busy time and we are looking forward to our Easter Holidays.

 

 

P7 Week beginning the 19th February 2018

This week in Primary 7

  • In Writing we looked at applying all the elements of VCOP to write a story about Pearl Harbour
  • In Maths we compared and ordered fractions and we investigated volume
  • In Topic we investigated the Geography of Japan and  its position in the Ring of Fire
  • On Monday we had a visit from the SSPCA and found out about cruelty to animals and how we can help make it stop
  • In ICT we started to create our own SWAYs
  • In Art we created a crayon resist painting of Mount Fuji
  • We enjoyed our masterclasses and committees and created a wall display to show that all children under 18 have rights
  • We also celebrated Kate, Lucy, Katy and James success in the Rotary Club quiz coming third!

P7 Week beginning the 29th January 2018

This week in P7 we have been busy.

  • In Literacy – we finished off our WW2 evacuee letters home to their parents.
  • In Maths – we found fractions of amounts, we simplified fractions and found equivalent fractions.
  • In Topic – we looked at human rights and how the ‘rights’ of the Jewish people were taken away during the Holocaust.
  • In Art – we created a Star of David badge that the Jews had to wear during WW2 and thought about how they would have felt. We also continued to work on our Anderson air raid shelters. We found an air raid shelter locally to help us create our own designs.
  • In RE – We looked at ‘Serving the greater good’ and how we could help SCIAF help people in Cambodia this year stop illegal fishing as part of the WEE box appeal.

 

P7 – Week beginning the 22nd January

Welcome back to our class blog! This week has been hectic in P7.  We have been busy learning and having fun!

In Topic – we found out about rationing and used our Maths skills to work out how many pieces of clothing we could get with our coupons! We also did some wartime shopping and didn’t like the idea  of buying powdered eggs!

In Literacy – we wrote  a letter from an evacuee home to their parents. We enjoyed putting ourselves in an evacuees shoes and thinking about how they would have felt seeing cows and sheep for the first time.

In Maths – we continued to investigate Fractions

In Music – we learned the wartime song ‘We’ ll Meet Again…’ by Vera Lynn.

We also had a focus on Scottish music and poetry, we listened to lots of Scottish tunes and decided that we would play ‘The Bonny Banks of Loch Lomond’ on the Trumpet. We all loved the music from the movie ‘Sunshine on Leith’ and choose to sing the song ‘Make My Heart Fly’; our Highland Dancers choose the ‘4 step Highland Fling’ and ‘ The Sword Dance’ and we were busy all week practising for our Burns’ performance.

On Thursday – we went to a Burns’ Ceildih at St Kent’s and met lots of other P7s.

We had a great time performing at Our Burns’ Celebration on Friday.

 

 

Primary 7 – Week beginning the 15th January

Welcome back to our Blog.

This week in Primary 7:

  • some of us have been skiing and snowboarding. We had a fantastic time and learnt how to do a toe edged slide and a heel edged slide
  • in Literacy we continued with  our persuasive arguments – (a speech from Hitler to convince the Germans to fight)
  • in Maths we completed our work on ‘Algebraic Equations’ and started to investigate Fractions
  • in Topic we really enjoyed finding out about the Home Front
  • in Art we completed our evacuees
  • in music we pratised playing ‘The Bonny Banks of Loch Lomond’ on our trumpets.
  • outside we had a fantastic time building snowmen!

It’s been a great week at St’ Joseph’s!
