P5: Check Ins

Hello everyone,

We hope you are doing well and are looking forward to a little break from online learning. Mrs Davies and I have been so impressed with your engagement and effort over the past two weeks, and agree a well deserved break is in order!

We received some lovely Check In resources from Mrs Fairley and thought it was important we shared them with you too. As well as a Check In Worksheet there are different Regulation Strategies Cards (some are similar to what we use in school). We will all have different strategies which help us at different times. Remember as well as using these tools, we have the Mighty Moe story and workbook on our Teams page that you can use.

We’d love to hear what strategies are working for you, even if it’s not one that’s listed. I enjoy reading to help take my mind off things and spending some time outside.

Stay safe everyone.

Easter Holidays

Hi P6.  Mrs McDermott and I would like to thank you all for your hard work so far during the school shutdown.  We will be going offline for the next two weeks for the Easter holidays and would encourage you all to take a break from school work too.  If however you want to continue with any of the activities we have previously posted then please do.  This also goes for any of the work we have put up in Teams.  You can also still continue to post any of the results of your work into Teams and we will look at it all after the holidays.  If you are also looking for any Easter activities to do over the holidays but aren’t able to access Teams here are a few that you might want to print out or just copy for ideas:

PRIMARY 2 ANSWERS

Hello Primary 2. How are you all?

End of week 2 learning at home. I am missing you all and all your news and chats – it’s so quiet!

By the way, are you still watching the moon? It has been a half moon this week. A full moon is due next Wednesday (8th April) – keep an eye out for it. It’s the holidays, so you might get to stay up late. Why not try star gazing with your family. The sky was beautiful last night and there was an amazing big bright star. My husband said it might have been the planet Venus! Wow!

I’ve attached the “Story of ch and ie” with the words highlighted, as promised. Did you find them all? Take a bow if you did.
There’s also the answers to the Squares and Triangles Maths questions. How did you get on? Say a loud “YIPPEE ME!” if you did your best. Let me know if you felt they were too easy or too hard and I can adjust the ones after the Easter holidays.

Take care all of you and remember to give your family an extra big hug.
Mrs Duff

P3

Good morning everyone. Just a reminder that a new Sumdog competition starts today! I think Mr Blackwood’s class won last time, so let’s see if we can beat him this time!! Don’t rush it as only correct answers count.

Well done to those of you who completed the assessment this week. Fantastic job by KB and ZF who got them all correct!! Also EP, KM and ZW who only made one mistake. Keep up the good work.

Enjoy the Easter holidays and stay safe.

Online Easter Egg Hunt!

Sadly we can’t do an Easter Egg Hunt in school together in school but we can have one online.  If everyone can colour in an Easter egg from the templates below or draw your own.  Then hide it somewhere in your house and take a photo with the egg in the background.  Not too well hidden, we need to be able to see it.  We have to guess where it is.
Rules
  1. Make sure an adult is happy with the picture you are sending in.  We don’t want anything in your picture that is private,  if you cannot take a picture, you could draw a picture and hide the egg.
  2. We need to be able to see at least a bit of the egg, otherwise we won’t be able to to guess.
  3. Upload the photo onto Twitter and tag us @HarrysmuirPS and your class (e.g. #P5D) or upload to our Facebook page and we will share for you, please make sure you or anyone in the family are NOT in the photo and you do not post full names.

Template: Blank Easter Egg

We’ve started you off. Happy hunting!

Birdwatching

Friday 3rd April 2020

Whilst we are all stuck at home why not become familiar with your garden birds and take part in a spot of birdwatching.  You don’t even need a garden to do this, just a sharp pair of eyes and a window!  Click on the link below to learn about some of the birds that you may see or click here to visit the RSPB bird identifier.

Primary 2 Easter activities

Hello Primary 2

We have put together some activities you might like to try over the Easter holidays. There are even some ‘how to make…’ videos which you can follow along to make things. You can start and stop them or even rewind if they are going too fast. Hopefully you will find some things you will enjoy.

There is a powerpoint showing you how Easter is celebrated in France where they say ‘Joyeuses Pâques’ for ‘Happy Easter’. There is also a French Easter card to make and a colouring by numbers sheet. After the holidays we will try and put in some more French activities.

If you are getting bored, you can always go on to Sumdog and Readingwise but take time to get outside for a walk. I have been enjoying my daily walks. It is lovely to see the trees beginning to open their leaves, Spring flowers blossoming and birds building their nests. Have a good look when you are out.

You might want to boil eggs and decorate them. When my children were small we would do this then go out on Easter Sunday to roll them down a hill. This tradition was to remember the stone being rolled away from Jesus’ tomb in the Christian story of Easter.

Have a lovely holiday, have fun and take care. We miss you all.
