P2 MATHS ANSWERS

Hello Primary 2!🙂

How has your week been? What have you been up to?🤔

Well, for those of you who have completed the Maths, here is a note of the answers. Well done for trying.👍

I just noticed there is a West Lothian Sumdog competition for a week, beginning TODAY! If you’ve not been on yet, then now’s a great time to have a go. For those of you who do have a go, keep going. The more you play, the more points you get. Let’s see if some of you can get on the Top 50 scoreboard or can a Primary 2 class get top of the Harrysmuir table? That would be lovely.🎈🎈 However we need 10 people to play for a class to be registered…go on, give it a go, it’s fun!

It’s a holiday weekend, so the new Learning Grids won’t go up until Tuesday.

Have a lovely weekend, whatever you do🤹‍♀️🛌🚶‍♂️🚴‍♀️🛴🍩🎨

Love from Mrs Kohler and Mrs Duff

Brain Teasers

Friday 15th May 2020

Right, it’s time to get our brains working today.

How many of these brain teasers can you figure out? (Tune in for the answers tomorrow)

  1. When you look for something, why is it always in the last place you look?
  2. A cowboy rode into town on Friday.  He stayed in town for three days and rode out on Friday.  How was that possible?
  3.  One night, a king and a queen went into a castle.  There was nobody in the castle, and no one came out of the castle.  In the morning, three people came out of the castle.  Who were they?
  4. What has to be broken before you can use it?
  5. It starts out tall, but the longer it stands, the shorter it grows.  What is it?
  6. What belongs to you but is used more by others?
  7. What goes up and never comes down?
  8. How can a man go 8 days without sleep?
  9.  A man found an old coin and declared that the date on it was 150 B.C.  This could not be true.  Why?
  10. Timmy’s mother had three children.  The first was named April, the next was named May.  What was the name of the third child?
  11. What occurs once in a minute, twice in a moment, and never in one thousand years?
  12. If you are running in a race and you pass the person in second place, what place are you in?

Good Afternoon P1 and P2/1

Hello boys and girls,

I hope you are all having lots of fun and not working too hard! 😉

Thank you very much EC for sharing some of your lovely work with us.  Well done on finding so many plants and flowers.  It is probably  a little early for the sunflowers 🌻  and the roses 🌹 but I am happy to see you found a few others. 👍🌼

I am also happy to see the Tooth Fairy is still managing to do her job! 🧚🏻‍♀️

The Tiny Seed

Here is a little story for you to watch. We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar 🐛  in class and this is another lovely story by Eric Carle.

Print or copy the butterflies below then colour then in.  Remember the butterfly’s wings are always symmetrical. 🦋

Finally, why don’t you have a look in any books you may have at home to see how many “oi” words you can find.

You can print off the worksheet below or copy the words into your jotter.

Missing you all,

School Closure Autism Toolkit

The loss of routine and trying to adapt to a new one can be very challenging for children on the autistic spectrum. If you are the parent of a child with autism you may find the following resource useful to help you to structure your child’s day. Please e-mail me if you would like a copy and I will arrange to have this printed off at school for you to collect.  morna.matthews@westlothian.org.uk

Make Your Own Lava Lamp

Thursday 14th May 2020

For today’s activity we are going to make a lava lamp.

Here is the science behind it…

The oil floats on top of the water because it is less dense (lighter) than water. The food colouring is the same density (weight) as the water so it sinks through the oil and mixes with the water. When you add the tablet it sinks to the bottom then starts to dissolve. As it dissolves it makes gas (carbon dioxide.) Gas or air, is less dense (lighter) than water so it floats to the top. The air bubbles bring some coloured water with them to the top. When the air comes out of the coloured water blob, the water gets heavy again and sinks. It does this over and over again until the tablet is completely dissolved.

Little Things that makes you SMILE😊

What are the little things you see that makes you SMILE :) ?

Here are a few little things that made me smile through out the past few days:

  1. Look at how well they are doing. 🌱GROW! 🌱GROW! 🌱GROW! My sun flowers🌻 are loving the sun 🌞 and just keep on reaching up for more.
  2. Ms Suen went for a little walk 🚶‍♀️the other day and got a little lost 🙈. However, i found this lovely woodland area ⛺which is called the Fairy walks🧚‍♀️. I saw these and thought, ‘Oooo! Our Primary 1 and Primary 2/1 would love these!’

  3. Mrs Meek’s flower in the can, Morning Glory, made me smile so much!
Three flowers🌺🌺🌺 bloomed on the same day.

Feel free to share the little things that has made you SMILE 🙂 this week or the past few weeks even!

Beyond Words – Beating the Virus

The charity Beyond Words has created a series of free wordless e-books that you can use to discuss the topic of Coronavirus with your child.  Although the books have no pictures they are not specifically aimed at children who cannot read but can be used as a means of discussing the current situation with your child (there are instructions at the end of the book as to how to do this.)  Follow the link below to download your free book.

There are other books in the series that you may download for free.  Click the image below to access the Beyond Words website.

P1 and P2/1 Plant Topic 🌱

Good Morning boys and girls,

I hope you are all safe and well this week. I was wondering if any of you have managed to grow anything yet?

I have planted radish, cress, some tiny carrots and viola seeds and there are signs of them growing! I also noticed something happening in my strawberry pot so I’ll keep you posted on the progress🍓! I must remember to keep them in a sunny position and not forget to water them every day 🌞💧 because we know that plants definitely need these to help them grow!

My girls have had great fun creating their own fairy gardens and thought maybe you would like to try it too? They used gravel, stones, broken pieces of pottery they found on the shore, grass seed and some bits and bobs from their toy box!  I wonder what you might use to make yours?

Below are some photos (look closely and you might even spot a fairy!) and a short video that might give you some inspiration.

We would love to see some photos of your creations.

Stay safe 🌈

Mrs Carr, Mrs Meek & Miss Suen
