P3

Good morning Primary 3. We will be trialing a new diagnostic test on Sumdog this week. Please try to complete it as it will give information that will help to improve the website but also give Miss Buchanan and I a good understanding of where you are in your learning.

P3R started today and the test will be available till next Friday. P3B may not have started yet but will be available by Monday and last for seven days.

There are two parts to the test; one takes 15 minutes and the other one gives you an hour to complete it.

Happy learning.

Escape the Space Station!

Click here to be taken to the website.

Information for Parents/Carers:

This is a satellite-themed STEM activity aimed at Key Stage 2 children (7 to 11). Each question below has a puzzle to solve to get a letter or number code for the escape pod, plus extension activities leading on from this question. You could do all the questions as a timed escape room, or try a few questions at a time during science lessons. Please download theย teachers packย for more information.

These activities cover parts of the science and geography curriculum. For the science curriculum, this includes learning about what a satellite is, active and passive satellites, geostationary and polar orbits, what satellites are used for. For geography, this includes reading grid references and recognising features such as rivers and mountains from satellite imagery. The later questions have a focus on Earth Observation satellites and looking at satellite imagery.

Bees!!

Good afternoon Primary 3. You may remember that my husband became a beekeeper last year. Unfortunately the bees swarmed recently and my husband and son had to go and shake them out of a neighbours tree to get them back. I thought I would put up some photos of the bees and videos of them getting them back! Enjoy!

Calming Anxiety in Children

Itโ€™s normal for children to feel worried or anxious at the moment. Weโ€™ve all experienced sudden changes in our lives and routines and weโ€™re living with lots of uncertainty about the coming weeks and months. For some young people, the coronavirus pandemic may also worsen or trigger anxieties they were already struggling with.ย  Here are some really simple calming strategies from The Therapist Parent for you to try with your children.

Mrs Russell’s garden P3

Hello everyone, it’s not quite so sunny today so I thought I would share some information and photos about my garden instead of going outside.

I am very pleased to see so much fruit on my plum tree.

You will also see a picture of our village peacock! He makes a very loud noise at night and likes to keep all the neighbours awake – maybe he is trying to call to a friend but keeping his distance!

As you may know, some plants are called annuals- these only flower once a year. I don’t have these as I am a little lazy so all the flowers in may garden are perennials (that means they flower every year).

Hope you are all well and staying safe.

I hope you like the pictures.
