Primary 1 18/09/2020

We have had a great week together this week. Here are a few of the things we have done –

Phonics

ImageWe have been working hard on our letter formation as well. We talked about where the letter comes from in our mouth – the back on our tongue. Let’s see if your child can remember what colour the letter c is ! At one of our tables we had to decide whether the word Miss Wilson said started with a m or a c. Primary 1 did really well! We then moved onto the letter s and spoke about where the letter s is made in our mouth- the tip of our tongue! We used spaghetti to practise our formation, created snowmen, snakes and created houses and other objects using straws.  One of our favourite tables was using fly squatters to squat the right letter when Miss Wilson asked what different words started with.

Writing

We wrote another piece of descriptive writing this week using the description bubble again. We chose to use a  number sentence to describe our families… for example – I have 3 sisters. I have 2 dogs called ____ & _____. The class did brilliantly and most children attempted to spell mum by themselves as they have now learned about the letter m.

Reading

As we have been learning about our school values – honesty, respect, resilience and kindness. We have been reading different books that discuss each of these values like The Big Bad Wolf. We are still trying to remember the values and what they mean however, we will continue to learn and show these values consistently throughout the year.

Numeracy

We have been learning about our numbers 0-5. We have been working hard on our number formation as some of them are very tricky to write. We are now looking at one more than. The children have had lots of fun at the different stations and have been using their fingers to help them figure out the problems i.e. what is one more than 4?

P.E.

We have been taking part in different games outdoors that require us to use our listening skills like red light, green light. We have been working on different movements we can make with our bodies and different types of ways to move around i.e. running, hopping etc. We played follow the leader where Miss Wilson led the children through a jungle which we had to duck, jump and run away from different animals and obstacles. We have also started to work on our catching and throwing skills, just by ourselves at the moment. As a cool down game, we played musical balls which all of the children thoroughly enjoyed.  Quick reminder that our PE days are Monday and Wednesday!

Mrs. Mohammed has been working with the children discussing germs and the different types of germs you can come into contact with. They have had loads of fun creating their own germs using paint. The children also created Colour Monsters in the style of pointillism.
