P4 World Book Day

Good morning everyone. I hope you are going to have lots of fun playing in the snow today!

Here are some fun reading challenges you can do at home to celebrate World Book Day 2018! Make a list of all the challenges you complete and bring your list into school. The person who completes the most challenges will be awarded a prize!

1. Read wearing a hat.
2. Read to someone else.
3. Read in your pyjamas
4. Read to a pet.
5. Read a book that makes you happy.
6. Take it in turns to read a page aloud with someone else.
7. Read recipe instructions – and try it out!
8. Have your own Big Bedtime Read – don’t forget the toast and hot chocolate!
9. Make a list of your favourite books.
10. Make a fact file about your favourite author.

Happy World Book Day P5!

Imagine having another snow day, isn’t that fun!

I know some of you will be very sad to be missing the pyjamas for books event today. I guess you’ll still be able to wear your pyjamas all day though, just not at school!

Anyway, here are a few activities you could try (pyjamas optional) to celebrate World Book Day at home…

  • Act out a scene from your favourite book, you may need to get brothers, sisters or friends to help. Perhaps you could film it? (Don’t choose the scene from Holes with the shovel and Mr Pedanski!)
  • Create a scene using lego or similar.
  • Have you any books at home you haven’t read yet? Now would be a great time to try them out.
  • Build a snow character from a book you have read. Or a snow whale!!
  • Write a quiz based on When the Whales Came and bring it to school next week for us all to try. (I’ve just found out there is a film of this, I’ll see if I can find it. Maybe you can too?)
  • Draw a new front cover for one of our class novels or group readers. You could even write your own blurb.

Hope you’re all having a fun time

Mrs L 🙂

P2 World Book Day

Good Morning P2.

What better day to stay cosy and curl up with a good book to read! Can you find any “magic e” words in your book? ( like, white, have, ice etc) Copy them onto paper and see if you can make new sentences with them. Can you design a new front cover for your book? Or even make a new title for your book?

If you have the resources you could make a cute snowman bookmark. You might need a little help from someone at home but I would love to see any you manage to make. Here’s a link to help

Have fun!

P6 World Book Day Activities

Morning Primary 6!

Happy World Book Day! I’m sure you’re all disappointed about missing out on the Big Bedtime Read event. So, why not have your own? Get those PJs on, get a nice hot drink and get reading. You can get the rest of the house involved too! Share what you’ve been reading with each other and leave a comment here with a book to recommend to others.

Why not create something new to do with your book? A new front cover? A different ending? Maybe even get the arts and crafts stuff out and make a character, location or scene from your book? Even better, go out and do it in the snow! Don’t forget to take some photos for me.

You could evaluate your book – Why did you like the book? What was your favourite part? What did the author do well (or not so well)? Would you recommend it to others? Write (or even film) a mini book report to share with us next week. You might encourage someone to give your book a go.

Happy Reading P6!

P2 World Book Day Activities

Hello P2,

Happy World Book Day 📚

Here are a couple of activities you could choose to do at home to celebrate.

1. Dress up as your favourite character from a book. Get someone to take your picture and send it to the school. Can’t wait to see who you’re all going to dress up as! Can you guess who I going to dress up as…?

2. Read a book to an audience, it can be your school book or another book of your choosing. You can read it to your friends, parents, siblings or your toys. You could even have a world book day teddy bears picnic 🐻

3. Get everyone involved and put on a play! Act out your favourite bit of a book. If your brave you could show the class in school. Can’t wait to see them and hear all about your world book day! Take some time to enjoy a book with your family and get cosy out of the cold. ⛄️

Have fun!

Snowy World Book Day – P1 & P1/2

Good morning Primary 1 and Primary 1/2!

It’s World Book Day!

Although we cannot celebrate together you could have the Big Bedtime Read at home.  Keep your pyjamas on a little longer, pick your favourite book and snuggle up with some toast and hot chocolate. Remember to talk about the title, author, illustrator and blurb.

If you have time you could also design a new front cover for your book.

Have a snuggly day, keep warm and read as often as you can.

DESIGN A BOOK COVER, poster, bookmark or book bunting to decorate our class – you can use your favourite book or the one that you are reading in class.

Go Green

If you have access to an iPad then you can do great things at home using the Green Screen by Do Ink app. It’s really simple to use. It allows you to super-impose videos and photographs on to different backgrounds. Using it, you are able create videos where they are transported back in time or even standing on the moon!

For a World Book Day project  draw or paint a setting from your favourite book or a book you are reading in class, for example the Hogwarts dining hall. Then film yourself or a friend reading or performing a scene from that book. This can then be superimposed over their background artwork, transporting them into the world of the book –  you will think it is just magic!

Can’t wait to see the results!!!
