This development piece depicts a crouched figure, arms crossed over the face hiding the person’s identity. The figure could be deep in thought or praying and there is a second figure with its head on the lap of the crouching figure; this figure is in red  with a white outline around it. These could represent other identities, multiple identities or simply be a second figure seeking solice.

The first 4 images are a work in progress where the aim was to build layers using a range of media; acrylic paint, cut magazine, cut paper collage and lino print around the edges.  The lino cut has deep lines which look sharp, cutting and scraping. I further developed this piece on the theme of my emerging identity as an artist, by adding key words relevant to my experience of engaging with art and the world of art. Words such as selection, identity, in or out, to capture the feelings surrounding the selection of art work and the acceptance of one as an artist. The first four images show hot and cold colours to represent the extremes of emotions; hot:  anticipation, passion, hard work, acceptance; cold:  rejection, outside, non acceptance. As the piece was worked on I muted some of the strong colour by adding tissue paper. The addition of key words helps the viewer experience emotions in this collage piece and this idea may be further developed by painting or printing words in another piece.
